During the summer, I would think that well-insulated windows would preclude colder temperatures in the home from penetrating the insulated glass such that water condenses on the cooled exterior pane. If more than half (but not all) of my windows get foggy during the summer, is it time to replace those windows? Overhangs, foliage, etc., are not a differentiating factor.

Thank You for that explanation Jeff. Our old sliding doors in the Kitchen use to get Condensation in between the panes and it left a ('film ?') I wasn't able to get to and clean. Consequently it was like looking out through a fog all the time. The view was Negligible . The Newly installed doors, (Marvin), are So Clear it's like there's nothing there at all ! We're Very pleased with them Our Living Room Bow window is The only thing, (in the whole house), left to be done. It will be replaced with a Bay window, (the Company is have delayed supply issues). The Bow window has Four Sections. There were overgrown bushes in front of it which cut the View in half. We removed the bushes to make room for the New Bay Window, otherwise The Men installing it would not have been able to do so. (Funny thing, without the overgrown bushes the Bow seems more appealing). However, I'm Still looking forward to The Bay. The strange thing was, of the four sections of the Bow window, when I cleaned them inside and out, (after the bushes were gone and I was able to get to them on the outside), two of the sections looked Great, (Clear), and the other two remained Foggy like the sliding doors in the Kitchen. Anyway, We are Quite Pleased with All our New Windows an Doors 😊. Even as late in the season as this past week we've been opening the windows in various rooms for our Cats. Our one Son that is still living with us 'attached' Cat Seats for them in three different rooms. They 🐾🐾 Love it 🙂. Sorry Jeff, I Know I go on Too much and You're a Busy Man ! Thanks for your videos. We got new windows installed last year and since we have had alot of condensation and ice build up on the interior. I noticed our windows have large gaps at the top when locked. The middle and bottom are tight but not the tops. Could this be a part of the problem ?

Absolutely. My guess is you must have double hung windows. A double hung window is a window that opens from the top and the bottom. I do not like double hung windows for that reason. I would contact the manufacturer and have them take a look at your windows to make sure they are working properly. Thank you for watching and for your comment.

I live in Canada. It's still 20 in the house without heat in day time. Cool at night, my windows over night get so moist poops of water around window sil. This is inside. I have recently foamed and revapor barrier. I try to keep windows open when I cook ECT. Build is 1974 bungalow ranch style. Basement is damp do not have central air. Frustrating because dehumidifier never really last. I have even moved the sump pump and water into cold storage area. Thought all these rénos would help. New baseboards heaters. Windows are dated but double panned. Damn if I do....

Jeff, what if I have double pane windows and I am getting the condensation on the interior side of the storm windows. This is occurring on the the second flood bedrooms widows which face north and south. What do you think? Thank you.

I want to make sure I understand your question correctly. Are you telling me that you have storm windows and moisture is getting trapped between your storm window and your window? Or do you have a double pane window unit and the moisture is between the panes? If you have the latter, that would be a warranty issue for sure.

Hello. Seems some people have asked but didn’t see a response. We get condensation on the outside of our double pane windows in the summer. But now that’s getting cooler I am noticing condensation on the inside of the windows (not between the panes but on the inside of the house). I believe this is an issue, but would like the experts to confirm. Thanks.

It's normal. That's actually a sign that your windows are doing a great job. Once you run your furnace for a few days it will dry out the house and you'll not have that happen as much.

Is this the same reason we have condensation inside (and ice buildup on the bottom) our house when it's 6 below Fahrenheit? Our windows are double paned btw.

No, interior condensation is due to high humidity in the house. Now that you have great Windows your house has a tighter seal and the humidity is not allowed to escape. Try to reduce the length of time people spend in the shower.

You need an air exchanger installed in your HVAC system.

@@HoustonWindowExperts I'm having this issue. So there's nothing wrong with the windows? Is there anything we can do about it? Our indoor humidity is in the 40's, I don't really want to make the air too dry but I also don't want water damaging the window sills. Been doing a lot of reading online and having some trouble actually finding answers to what I should do about this.

Are the windows you have now made out of a high efficiency frame and double pane glass?

@@HoustonWindowExperts thanks for the quick reply! As far as I know they're all double pane but I don't know what material the frame is. Is there a way for me to check this? For all I know they're original wirh the house which was built in 1993 but I don't have a way to verify that either.

Condensation, on inside is much different then condensation on the outside window

I do have double windows cuz I leave near an airport so that why it keeps the noise out and in the morning it's wet and now there's mold around the windows

It sounds like you have too much moisture in your home. You might consider a dehumidifier.

His old one was so inefficient that cool air was always passing over the surface and keeping it the same temperature as the outside.
