I am a mechanic and have lots of ls and coyote engines laying around. Couple things not mentioned are cam swaps are easy on a coyote. No measuring push rod length and no need to degree the cam. Then the biggest thing I love about working on a modular engine is no accessory brackets.
@jamesgeorge48742 жыл бұрын
Explain, in detail, how lining up 2 dots, on 2 sprockets, and hanging ONE chain, is HARDER than indexing 4 chains, on 5 sprockets, with 5 different marks. Also GM did not use a degree wheel on the million + LS engines they shipped, and neither do you have to, if you don't want to. Also, dozens of cams are available in stock base circle, require zero pushrod changes. Sounds to me like despite you being a mechanic, you've never touched and engine with a wrench, and sure as hell not a Coyote. One valve cover has more fasteners to remove than the LS cam swap total. You really don't know what the hell you're talking about, do you ?
@robertkington20842 жыл бұрын
@@jamesgeorge4874 sounds like you only play around with stock ls stuff. Put an adult size camshaft in and you start changing base circle. Put aftermarket heads on and you always check push rid length. Zero deck the block and then checking it again and ordering custom length push rods. The after that you have to degree the cam. If you think it takes a lot of time to line up a couple more dots then grab your box of crayons and your retard helmet and leave this to the pros.

You're correct that it's it's "easy mode" with a coyote that you don't have to go into the motor...until you do. If you're just slapping boost on one 500-700ish hp is pretty easy. But if you want to build a coyote for more it is a more sophisticated engine than the LS. The coyote in my drag car has vvt deletes and locked cams and let me tell you, I've gotten really good at degreeing cams when I decided to build a coyote. I also learned a lot more about things like cam timing and overlap messing around with these things then I ever did with sbc. I give Coyote motors props where they're due . You can put a ton of boost to them and they make outstanding power . When you brought up the reliability of the coyote past 600 horsepower not being that great is exactly why I made the decision for a 7.0 LSx small block ( from blueprint ) from Summit . 650 horsepower out of the box . Works with the stock truck computer . Around 10k . Very reliable . Can I say I make more horsepower per cubic inch than a mustang ? Absolutely not . Can I have 127 more cubic inches from a smaller package than a coyote ? Absolutely . 427 cubic inches with a similar foot print to the 4.8 /293 V8 . That matters . Not only that but you're not touching a complete drop in race ready 650 horsepower coyote with a warranty for 10k . Since the Godzilla 7.3 has come out you especially can't deny the influence of the LS . Godzilla 7.3 uses pretty much the same architecture . Coil near plug , long runner intake , pushrod , skirted Y block , cam in block , 6 bolt mains with cracked bearing caps . It's not a bad thing or a bad formula . The dyno results speak for themselves .

There’s more to it than cfm. The way the air flows in 2 valves has less static pressure and can flow more with less boost. It’s why Jon Kasse doesn’t like giving cfm flow numbers. @@R3AL-AIM I already own a Coyote, and my girlfriend owns a Coyote. We don’t really want kids yet, I’d put that 10k into my bank account stay NA until I can afford to either refresh my Gen 2 or Trade in and get a lower mileage example, or if I’m ballsy I’ll boost a high mile one and see what happens. LS is boring to me and I don’t wanna do any swaps, I prefer to work with what I have an save myself a ton of hassle. 700hp if you’re talking crank is a Paxton or Vortech away which can be bought for 4K off the used market and easily make 700 on pump gas with BAP & inhectors

another thing i noticed about the 5.0 is reliability. seen a lot of high mileage examples for sale and i think its a testament to why this is a great daily driver if you don't care that much about performance as well.

Amazing break-down analysis, I would love to see the difference between the 5.0 and the 5.2 predator and Voodoo motors. From what I hear, they are all from the same family.

I learned a lot from this video and the comments lol. Never knew Ford heads had 290 CFM( and Hemi's 340 cfm?). The best thing about an LS is the fact that it makes great power with a small package; you can fit it into damn near anything. Also, stock motor can take a beating, a cam cost $200 (compared to $1000+ for coyote), valvetrain is cheap, engines are cheap (got my aluminum 5.3 truck motor for $500). Regardless Fords sound great at 8000 rpm, great motor for NA. That's why I'm excited for the c8 z06, 5.5l 670hp 8600 RPM

Chevy won in the single cam pushrod engine competition and I have a feeling this new Z06 vette engine will trump the coyote as well. Time will tell. Either way these days you gotta just appreciate any v8s on the market with this EV crap.

My 2011 Camaro SS with a new GM performance LS3 495 horsepower crate engine and a 6L80e transmission with a circle D 4200rpm stall converter with stock 3.27 gears tuned and runs on E85 with other upgrades ran 7.4 at 94mph in the eighth mile naturally aspirated many new 5.0 Mustangs with full bolt-ons 10 speed automatic with 3.73 gears running 7.90s with a 3500rpm stall converter was the fastest naturally aspirated 5.0 there most running 8.40s-8.80s l know the 5.0 crowd will say your LS3 has a not stock camshaft their right but the camshaft is anything but a max effort camshaft with with 219 duration intake and 228 duration exhaust with 525 lift on both is really a very mild camshaft it redlines at 6600rpm my car weighs 3920 with me in it has a full interior and air conditioning the only 5.0 Mustang that ran faster than my car the night l was at the track was one running 7.2s at 99mph but it had a turbo in it my car ran 7.40 at 94mph with only 3 passes on 20 psi in the Mickey Thompson 305/45r17 ET drag radials with more testing and experimenting with launch techniques and tire pressures could probably go 7.20s at 96mph not bad mouthing Fords 5.0 Coyote engine but with 32 valves and 4 camshafts vs a 16 valve 1 camshaft LS3 l just don't see how it's just that much better than the LS3 is the LS3 has better torque from idle to 4500rpm+ than the 5.0 Ford Coyote does is my opinion of course above 6500rpm is were the 5.0 has a advantage but most times by 6500rpm the 5.0 Coyote is going to be playing catch-up because because by 4000rpm the LS3 is already pulling hard the 5.0 needs to be turning 5000rpm+ to be pulling equivalent to the LS3 at 4000rpm

See the Coyote was not made for just power. Its a versatile engine. Its main advantage is not outright drag racing. It can tow, it can do some drags. It loves boost. It loves to do everything without opening the bottom end. That was Fords mission and they achieved that with fyling colours. Nobody here says its much better than LS3 but it can do everything using a different technology thats it. Also the 5.0 is more flexible across the world because it manages better COx figures per ppm, so it doesnt need the pollution tax that kills LS being sold across lot of regions across the world. Many Americans think the whole world is like USA. Thats the biggest issue.. They r blind and unidirectional.. When U explore the world U ll understand an OHV doesnt suit many situations.. While an OHC like Coyote can bypass lot of laws and regulations while making decent HP and while not being overtly expensive

@@gloriamaletta8667 Yep Going NA is great but I ve seen 5.0s do 500 whp with FBO E85, but they behave like 525 hp ohv cars. Partly due to faster engine spinning and partly due to 7500 rpm redline. The 10 speed also makes it damn quick for s 500 hp car. So for being 100 hp/L without opening engine does make it pretty darn strong for the gen3 Coyote
