I remember the coin exploit. As I heard it, you could camp out and while you waited to camp you would open a backpack forcing the save. Then just before camping drop your coins. Log back in and have your coins on you and on the ground. It would not take long to generate huge sums with this exploit. I recall when you could drop coins. They showed as a little shinny blip on the ground. They would be different colors according to the type of coin too. This was patched I believe late summer or early fall of 2000.

I remember 'holy trinity' way different. Back in 2000 (2001) when kunark first came out, the holy trinity wasn't generic 'healer, tank, whatever '. It wasn't even dps for the 3rd slot. It was specifically cleric, warrior, enchanter. In those days, you couldn't even start a group unless you had those 3 first. Maybe that evolved later but that's how I remember it. That's the main reason I switched from ranger to cleric, and then later made a warrior, because I knew I would always have a job. Nowadays, all priests can substitute for cleric, all tanks can substitute for warrior, and CC isn't nearly as important.

Macroquest hacks were by far the biggest exploits. Unlimited run speed, warp, fly, clip through geometry, unlimited range and line of sight for all attacks and spells, equip anything (IE full plate dual wielding mages), use any clicky, ghost mode, ShowEQ style in game maps, fully autonomous bots, the list goes on. Many of these hacks were heavily used by raiding guilds but they were tight lipped about it and most of the players in those guilds were not aware of what was really going on. There was also more than one duplication glitch over the years; that's the main reason why the old EQ server economies became so wrecked. RMT was rampant and completely un-regulated. SOE never invested anything into preventing hacking or RMT asides from responding to in game petitions from players observing sloppy hackers.

Since everyone is sharing old EQ exploits -- I leveled my Rogue from level ~25 up to the mid-50s during Luclin in a matter of days using an exploit I discovered in Echo Caverns. I could pull half the zone and then backstab the 20+ mobs to death one-by-one without them ever attacking me. Pulling off the exploit required two-boxing my bro's level ~45 shaman -- I had to keep the shammy below 20% HP using Cannibalize so that the Shammy always had 'Low HP aggro'. I parked the shammy in a particular little nook in the zone where the mobs could not find a path to their target, so they would just stand there staring at the shaman, unable to reach him due to shitty pathing while getting backstabbed to death. The exploit was quickly patched up as soon as I milked all the decent exp out of the zone. One person observing me actually threatened to report me but I never got bothered by a GM :D Thanks to this exploit I was able to catch up to my brother who had a 60 Ogre Warrior.

'holy trinity' was never a thing in EQ. sure you could play the trinity, but you would miss the support classes, the pulling, the crowd control. None of that was needed anyway, any class can solo in EQ if you were a smart enough player on that class. Chanter solo main here.

My cousin accidently figured out how to duplicate items and plat. I don't know how we never got caught we all had top of the line gear that would have taken forever to farm lol. I remember he sold a pair of Cobalt pants for $400. I don't know how much he made total but he was banking selling on Ebay.

I remember VERY early on, you were able to pull a mob, go to a wall, turn into a tree and get yourself stuck behind the wall. You could hit the mob but they could not hit you.

I remember a bug after an update of a game, it happened for 15mns before they took servers down. I don't remember the name, was in human zone close by Dark elves zones Some plane gears droped of starting zone mobs XD

I don't recall the origin but I do remember hearing about this when I was young. Players with safe fall skill would use falling damage to kill NPC's that were chasing them down steep hills before it was fixed. There used to be a way to get an NPCs to aggro on the MOB you were killing in certain areas and you could run around and let the NPC do all the damage for you. The giant turtle in velious was one of the targets it worked on IIRC

I used a bug in the pit of plane of tactics to start a war between npcs using an enchanter. I forget exactly how it went, but it involved charming one and having it attack something else and then I think zoning or logging out and coming back quickly. After charm was off they would continue to fight each other and I’d get exp for all their kills. Just kept aggroing other stuff and dragging them into the battle… tons of aa points earned very quickly.

I witnessed this. I was in a group when an enchanter triggered this. It was so long ago, but it was a sight to behold. I can't remember how they fixed it though.

yeah you had to charm the little pig that ran through and send him to attack an enemy and then clearing your aggro and there would be a war between the factions and youd get xp for every kill. I quit eq1 right after i found this and Maxxed my AAs.

in eq2 i can't recall the exact expansion, but it re introduced the hole. It was also a 10lvl increase expac so every raiding guild wanted to get to new max lvl afap to start farming new raid content. There was rumors of devs not really being done with most the raid content due to lack of testing abilities. So i'm on my Fury and with our guild grp we battle down the hole, exp is great, a ton of mobs and they just fall over in our AE's and weapon procs etc, but we see there's like 120 of the servers leading raid guild in here. Fine, guess they also thought this would be a nice zone to exp in. Until we found where they all were. was this one big pool of water down a huge elevator platform, with 4 spawn spots with a cluster of 20ish mobs each locked in an encounter ( for eq1 folks, basically mobs could be single, or split up into multiple, but still share the same HP pool. Some classes have encounter spells, others have the normal point blank AE's hitting any mob, but 1 mob with 1mio HP or 20 mobs with 50k each is a big difference) They were just all parked on the 4 spawns and AE'ing everything dead the moment it spawned, and the exploit was that the spawn timer was "broken". They just respawned like 10seconds after last mob died. Their entire guild got to new max lvl in about an hour and a half, shortly after the servers came down and this was patched. The raid guild went on to alpha test the raids and reap all rewards while the rest of us need a day or two to at least start the lowest tier raid zones. Good times.

There was a 'bug' around the Velious era that had a random mob banker in befallen that that would exchange copper for platinum 1 to 1. And then platinum to copper 1 to 1000. I remember the server reset after it happened. I guess the guy duplicated so much that it flagged the system, probably could have kept the rouse up indefinitely as no one went to befallen.

Remember being banned on Ebay for 30days due to selling plat and items. This was around 2000 and Ebay was packed with auctions for some of the best drops pre-velious.

I died due to a bug one day and a GM came and reset my character to before I died. I said thank you and he left. I ran back down to the spot I did and what do you know, my fricken corpse with all my gear was still there. So I had my friend come and I gave them all my lore items and started looting my corpse of duped items. I was level 60 and had some pretty spendy items I was able to resell. Was awesome. The GM fawked up...he should of rezzed my corpse OR did what he did and than de-poped my corpse. But int he long run I had many bugs that made me loose items so guess it evens out.

I think the most "exploitable" thing I ever did on Bard, which really wasn't: In OT I used to run mobs to the golems guarding the outpost. I'd let the golem beat the mob down to single digit % HP, then charm the mob and run off with it. Then you just let charm drop and the mob would be fleeing and you could finish it off for full XP.

I found an exp exploit in PoP in the hedge maze. Managed to get one AA point every 6 kills as a lol 61 ranger solo about a month after the expansion dropped. I got appox 60 points before others caught on and I reported the bug.

@@IonBlaze1 it was possible because of how the guy you escorted through the maze was coded. He was basically just as strong as the mobs in the maze hp and damage wise. The only real difference was the mobs enraged and he didn't. Until the escort event was triggered he was rooted in place at the entrance. I would pull solo mobs to him and they would fight each other while I stood back shooting summoned arrows from my tolans bracer at him. When the monster enraged I would run into melee range the the mob would always instantly turn to me allowing me to tank the enrage. If I didn't tank it the rage would kill him then the mob would kill me. Each monster got me a little over 4 blue bars of aa exp. The fight took maybe 5 minutes. There was a bit of downtime because I was mostly in velous era average raid gear with a bow of doom and didn't have the archery aa's until about halfway through the exploit. I probably got an aa every hour or so thought. Eventually people caught on when they entered the hedgemaze and saw what I was doing. By then I had the archery aa's and it was alot easier to find a group saying 61 Hunter lfg instead of 61 ranger. Then fixed it by making the guy at the entrance a green con who would despawn and respawn into the high level escort when triggered.

I don't know but there is a cap to how much Plat you can have. On FV, a krono sells for like 3-5mil

I sold the first lvl 50 wizard for 1,000 usd on Cazicthule then went on to selling platinum for 200 usd per 10000 plat I made another 10,000usd over the next couple 2 years. I realized then it was time to get a girlfriend and make real money. EQ was the best! I loved Sebillis. I had the first Monk Epic weapon.

Dropping coin was an older thing. Monks would always be dropping copper or trading it for plats because of the weight limits for mnk ac and coin having weight

I don't remember what we charged, but it wasn't very much.. It was right when the race wars servers had just opened up. Tallos and Vallos Zek. So we had ebay auctions for 10k plat for like $200. I'm sure most people thought it was a scam.

@@1337Miller I paid for a good chunk of grad school with EQ. I remember a Wu's trance stick selling for 100 bucks and making close to $1k some days. I was not a raider or hardcore player even. I used to put together full sets of midrange gear for different classes and sell them in one auction.

I don't recall there being a message when your character was saved. What was the message?

Just a simple yellow text of "Character saved". I'm sure there are some accidental screenshots with it in chat out there. It would also happen right before servers went down. Devs gave you a 15 minute window to log out. But the last character save had already happened so it didn't really matter. On the PvP servers as soon as that 15 min warning showed, we would industry turn on each other since it didn't matter anymore.

Plat is not intellectual property. It may be against their ToS but that doesn't make it a crime

@@fernwogteveril6935 I guess that depends, if you consider the EULA a binding contract. I do know that when people used to sell characters on EBAY there was a large issue due to legality, since the EULA states anything to do with the software , Games etc was property of SOE back in the day.
