Kudos to the guy that mounted the large screen TV. I thought for sure it would come crashing down.

Good job on the demonstration. This is as close if not closer to those questions of what will happen on stronger quakes. If I understand 9.5 is the strongest ever recorded in history, don't take my word for it. This simulation is a prime example and why the need for conclusions on better buildings in worse case senerio. I think it was Japan who was the first to design buildings to withstand a major quake, and quake are very hard to predict. Why studies and experiments are needed to be better prepared for the worse
@Chris-552 ай бұрын
Yeah it is the strongest recorder, however 9.5 isn't an accurate measure since back then the measuring equipment wasn't very precise, more advanced studies say it was probably 9.6 or higher

Beautiful video of the most energetic earthquake of all times. I ve watched a lot of video s about this one and was surpriced that it didn t kill as much people as the boxing day 2004 quake. But the tsunami was ocean wide and still enormous in hawaii. Chile had a big hit but I think the dense populated area was far from the epicenter. In the same decennia the alaska quake happend and it also was big (second biggest) and also lucky with sparse populated area. If the chile earthquake hits Tokyo it would be catastrophic even with the preparations the Japanese people have for earthquakes.

Do you think this is what a Cascadia subduction rip would be like now? The last one in 1700 was "only" a 9.0 but it was strong enough to send a tsunami to Japan, and buried west coast villages as well. Also the Chiean faults were land based when they ripped. But still- would a couple hundred miles out to sea, make much of a difference when a plate decides to drop🤷♀️? Thanks for the video🙏🏼!
@wilcofaber98632 ай бұрын
A 9.0 happened to japan in 2011. That shows how dangerous it could be. The run up of the tsunami is dependend of the structure of the coast and the uplift of the seafloor

@@cathrinewhite7629 I've recently seen a video that states the northern and southern parts of the fault are likely to experience the largest quakes/tsunamis due to the structure of the fault line and the ocean floor being smoother and thus easier to slip.
@cathrinewhite76292 ай бұрын
@@epiccurious3536 well, you could be fine then! WA & CA (and Vancouver Island) might be the ones to get the full force- while OR in the middle stays in "the eye of the storm". Honestly, I would hope that if this zone cuts loose one day...that I would have grown old & be long gone by then🙏🏼. Or that it holds still until humans are off the planet😅
