Awesome interview as always! The 8spd ZF with BMW tuning has to go down as one the greatest automatic transmissions ever made. I'm not sure how it gets and better in an ICE configuration.

Hi, can we test bench on really crapy, dusty, high particle content, from sea level to 2200, 3celcius to 120⁰, high uv exposure. I propose to use more robust air con systems to cool the engine compartment and the hot side of the engine. The cabin system from the hybrid system as the accessories. Use vacuum to create a system to vacuum particles on the intake system and cabin positive pressure.

@@MotoManTV . While we are on the subject of BMW . Are you going to do a review of the BMW X6 M60 as well as the Maserati Grecale Trofeo. I need to replace my current X6 5.0 and considering either one. I value your opinion and would love to hear your take on both.

5 years ago I really thought the pendulum had swung in AMG's favor with great V8's in almost every model, sharp steering and suspension tuning, and excellent seats compared to the M-cars of that era. Today it looks like that pendulum has swung the other way with the unemotional 4-cylinder-hybrid powertrains in most of the new AMG's. Hopefully this not just a timing issue where BMW is late getting to that same 4-cylinder party!

BMW is absolutely headed that way. It's required to meet EU and China regulations. Merc's strategy is prioritizing Chinese market in the near-term, as well as the EU company car tax system (how most luxury cars are sold in the EU). But it's just a matter of timing for BMW. They can continue to sell these cars in the US, but hard to make the business case for 1 of many markets.

All I ask of BMW is to always be here for the petrol automotive enthusiast. Some of BMW's greatest rivals are making the commitment to be totally EV in the near future. These rivals will possibly lose customers to BMW; I am one that will be making that switch. EVs are fine, but while in an EV, I do not experience the joy of the participation in the operation of the vehicle. Just my thoughts and my opinion.

Starting in 2035, all new cars in the European Union must be zero-emission. Suppliers will start ramping down long before that. The transition is inevitable. Buy your classic (repairable) sports car now.

@@JohnPMiller Thanks for that advise. That will be a sad day when that come around. I have a well maintained 2016 E350 that I just love and almost hate to ever get rid of. 20 gallon tank, on the highway while behaving over 500 mile range, less than 10 minute refuel. I am sure by 2035 range, recharging and hopefully, the repairability will have improved. I just do not know about the joy factor. A repairable sports car!

IMO BMW has already stopped being the enthusiast brand. They've intentionally removed steering feel from all their cars, no longer do 50-50 weight distribution, stopped focus on weight savings to save $, have the worst manual on sale, stopped developing bespoke hardware for M cars. They've focused on parts consolidation, using the ZF8 for everything from a 230i to an M4 CSL. Their flagship M car is a 6k lb SUV whose key feature is the rear seat lounge. Their focus is on in-your-face styling, tech and screen overload, and straightline speed. That's not to say their cars aren't good. The 5-series and X5 are very well-rounded luxury cars. They're just targetting mainstream audience rather than enthusiasts to grow market share.

@@The_Stanman I have several passionate BMW enthusiast friends that echo your thoughts. I just noticed that BMW is making some of the same changes that Mercedes has done. Still, BMW has more powertrain options over a wider range of their vehicles. The only thing I can do other than just talk about this is to decide where I will spend my money. I have never been unimpressed while driving or riding in a BMW. Happy Independence Day!

@@arthurcatalanotto1151 yes they're still solid cars, just not what they used to be. I previously owned all BMWs but have switched to Porsche because of it. Which is unfortunately they're much more expensive. I'm looking for an M3-sized sedan next there's not a ton of great alternatives, so I may end up back in another BMW next. Happy 4th 👍

Only on @motoman this kind of deep background from the OEM / Vendors. Dirk Häcker has such a thick German accent - very fitting. Great interview! What is their vision in the area of EV? What will be the emotion and driving machine translated into "M". ? Feedback to Dirk Häcker: Surprise us! keep the greatest hits, but find something out especially give us something in the EV world world which really deserves an "M" on the back.

Agree that it is a problem with most modern cars - the weight is mostly down to the real estate. If you look at an Elise - saw yesterday one on the Autobahn, its so tiny, you can see it best if you park them side by side - thats why the have been so light. Nobody would buy such small cars anymore. Worse are larger cars with 2 powertrains on board. They future might be promising, if the next generations of batteries can be build way lighter. For us here in Europe US cars were always so much bigger - not anymore - we don't drive trucks over here but "normal" cars have the same size.

If something can be improved I noticed the overall audio levels of your videos seem lower than other content, and sometimes your audio level is much clearer and louder than the guest. Just wanted to comment it’s tough to listen to the videos while driving in traffic

I dont understand how anyone would want a plug-in hybrid performance vehicle like the XM. I could see buying a mild hybrid but having to plug in a performance vehicle seems like a pain. I guess if you already have an EV at your home it’s no big deal

I’m glad you’ve posted this video, so we can all see the lead engineer of this heavy, ugly, pig of an M-car. SMH. The drivetrain and interior are solid, but it’s weight is an absolute disgrace for a rwd only car, and exterior could be a whole lot better.
