This is the best description of these I've seen. I wanna build a fuel vaporizer for an engine. As a kid I'd look at these , and wander if it would work by running the exhaust gasses over a generator, scaled up of course

The spring in the stove generator is there to provide an increase in hot surface area so more fuel will vaporize within the tube. It also keeps the tip cleaning rod centered so the fine wire pricker/reamer doesn't get bent.

Every since Boy Scouts in the early seventies I fell in love with every product The Coleman company made . You most definitely know what your doing. I use my old lanterns, stove, oven and heater along with my canvas tent when we camp . Fellow campers stop and visit by the fire. We remember the good ole days while my wife watches tv in the camper .

I have recently done a rebuild of my vintage 1968 228F dual mantle lantern. You channel helped me do that. One thing I like about you approach is the explanation of not only how it works (part & pieces, etc) but also why it works (theory of operation) so one has a complete understanding of the actual apparatus. Very effective teaching tool that helps the student understand the device in its entirety.

I have 4 Colman stoves all vintage. Just got a 5th at a flee market new in the box , never used for 20 bucks . All.5 are from the early 60s. Also, I have 6 lanterns from the 60s . All work like new . I keep hitting flee markets and finding insain deals . People don't know what they have . Or they just don't care .

@OldTown Coleman you mentioned lighting a stove incorrectly, & I got a bit convicted. I have a 424 that put out plenty of tall yellow flames this weekend, despite going through the instructions step by step. It had a leak at the fuel knob last year. I called coleman for help, but they no longer support it, so I got some graphite & fixed it myself. Not very well apparently because it was pretty wonky this weekend. I looked at your video list for stove videos but came up short on stove info. I've enjoyed your channel, I started with a 200a my dad was tossing out, now I seem not to be able to pass up an old lantern. Thanks for the education, looking forward to more of it.

Thank you Kevin! The 2-3 burner stove video is upcoming as I've finished 1 & 2 mantle lanterns and the single burner stoves. There are a number more repair vidoes I'd like to do but the stove one will be next. Very sad that Coleman doesn't support the old stuff any longer, and a 424 isn't that old. Ensure that your burner assembly is 110% clean, same with the generator, and that your tip cleaner stem is seated well in the valve stem. Play around with the amount of pressure you begin with to see if that will aid in starting.

I would love to see you do an analysis of the Coleman M1950 military stove - Vietnam era. I have a couple of them and they are awesome. They look like little moon landers with their folding legs and fold out pot supports. As you know, they were made by various companies, including Coleman.

Very interesting video. I need to watch Parts 1 & 3. I've never used a Coleman lantern before. I have a new, never used 10/71 220F on hold at a local antique store. The cleanout mechanism does not turn. What would cause this on a never used lantern??? THANK YOU for this video series and any help you may be able to provide!!

Frank, here's an idea. Create a pay site. Charge a reasonable flat fee. Make a troubleshooting matrix by model number. Users would enter the model number of the Coleman product that they are attempting to fix. Then have separate search boxes listing various symptoms of problems that they are having. (or at first let them create a narrative description of their subjective observations.) Let the user click on boxes describing the problems/symptoms. Then describe the most probable cause and remedy. You could do this case by case over time, and create a wealth of corporate knowledge that would live on forever. It would also be great fun for you, allowing you to use/benefit from the incredible amount of knowledge that you have amassed from your years of tinkering/fixing/restoring Coleman products! And it could make you a fair amount of income! These Coleman products should live forever, and you are one of the few people on Earth who can make that happen! Thanks!

I have a Model 1951 Coleman US Army one burner. It preheats with a small amount of gasoline. Come to think of it, the Coleman stoves preheat the generator tube in a similar way.

Oooooh - where do you get those white-tip matches ??? From laboratory practice, the coil (or spring) inside the generator is not primary to "slow the gas down". That coil increases the surface area available for heat transfer and gas generation. Nice touch with your cat supervisor. Most excellent video.

Hello sir. Huge fan. I just purchased a 66' 426D 3 burner. I'm a little discouraged. I paid a lot for the stove and it has a few issues. It has a hard time burning blue and clean on the main burner if I turn the stove up passed 1/3 open and worse, it will not turn off. Turn the little lever up and close the fuel valve and wait a couple minutes. It will (simmer) but will not go out no matter how long I wait. When I received the stove the fuel valve knot was very tight. Plz help!

The Kerosene lanterns, can they run on white gas too. A friend of mine has one with that cup so i assume it's designed for Kerosene, but will white gas work too?

Yes, it works but you still have to preheat the generator. It can't instant light without the air holes.

I scored a 220K model the other day. I put fresh fuel in it and pumped it up. It pressurizes but when I open the valve and try to light the mantles, the match gets blown out. That leads me to believe that the metering rod is stuck in the down position, not allowing fuel to flow upwards. I tried to remove the part that goes into the tank but I couldn't get that thing to budge. It still has fuel in it. Maybe the fuel will soak into the goop that has seized the metering rod? Thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

I'm working on a 335 whose fuel/air tube doesn't provide a hex nut to take it apart. Even though it's round instead of hex shaped, does it still thread on? Can I wrap a piece of leather around it and spin it off with vice grips? Thanks

50 years ago, when I was in high school, my father showed me that liquid gas didn't burn, it was the vapor. He put a lit cigarette on the ground and poured gasoline on it to put it out (Yes, we were outside so that if something went wrong there wouldn't be a problem if the gasoline flared.)

I have a #237 Kerosene Coleman Lantern, and it looks as good as the one you have. I have several different types of Coleman lanterns, and stoves but the biggest disappointment was the purchase of the Coleman North Star, #2000-750. Flames keep erupting out from where the generator enters the burner assembly. So, there is a couple of hundred bucks wasted, being as I can not beg, borrow or steal any parts for it. I have the part numbers, but no parts.

Good evening Frank, I have a question. I recently purchased a lamp with the white turban shade, it has the straight Q77 generator. I tried to light it but it wouldn’t fire. I saw when you light yours it looks like you warm the generator for a bit then turn the valve on and it fires. I removed the generator and tried to blow through it and noticed it was bent quite a bit. I found some Q77 generators on eBay and ordered two. I will install and try again, do you have any suggestions on firing these? Cleaning the gas tip? Thank you for your videos, I have learned a lot and really enjoy them and the lanterns and stoves. My family used Coleman products in excess during our many camping trips while growing up.

No Paulo, not dangerous but it does not have a fuel and air tube so use caution when lighting it...preheat as normal and you should be fine.

Fantastic - I hate to say it but you should be charging us for these videos. A question - I love your lamps - can you burn them inside like an Aladdin lamp or only outdoors? I have three Aladdin I do not light although I have rebuilt them all. The mantels are still new unburned. I would like to use the Aladdin and Coleman for power failures. Is it safe?

Burn lamps inside? Yes sir, absolutely, with caution for fire protection of course. All of those old lamps were built to run inside the home and they're really good at it. Thanks for the nice comments--very appreciated!

Frank: you should put all this information on DVD For sale ! Do you have a master's in coleman repairs ? ( joke ). About a year ago I bought a 2 burner stove from a pawn shop in BILLINGS. I got home with it ripped it all down , cleaned it almost looked new then I camouflaged it it looks great BUT the next I felt like I broke the law, to me it feels like. That is funny brother Frank. I am not and never will be an advocate or re-painting Colemans but as long as they are loved, that is what is important lol. A camo stove sounds real fun. I went to an estate sale late on a Sunday and found that stove in the back of a barn and paid about $5. That doesn't happen very often... There are a number of old stoves like it out there--just keep your eyes open and have patience.
