After growing up a fundamentalist Christian in a predominately Catholic country and then heading the rowdy Irish goth/post-punk band, The Virgin Prunes, Guggi, has developed a unique insight into faith-shun religion and its trademarks.

Guggi:
Guggi is a Dublin based painter and the former singer of the band, The Virgin Prunes. His work has appeared in the Tony Shafrazi Gallery in New York, the Osborne Samuel Gallery in London and the Solomon Gallery in Dublin, among others.

Question: A Legend of Goth Rock's Guide to Christianity
Guggi: I always call myself a Christian, I don't call myself a Protestant. I bring my kids -- I have five sons -- I bring them to a Baptist church but we tried a lot of different churches. I'm not interested in the brand outside the church at all, no interest. No interest in religion really. But this was a good speaker. There was no bullshit; he got straight to the point. The message is clear and it's very bearable. They are not in any way judgmental and so it was the right church. But the brand doesn't matter.
Question: What was it like growing up in a Christian fundamentalist household in Ireland?
Guggi: It definitely -- there is no doubt about the fact that we felt different. Our dads, we would get up on a Sunday morning, we would go to church. It was a one and a half hour long service. The speaker could never stop on time; it was very often closer to two hours. We'd go to the park for a half an hour, go home have our lunch, come back into Sunday School. Sunday School another one hour and twenty minutes. We would get something to eat. We would be back in for church from 7:00 to 8:00, then over to the YMCA for the 8:30 which would finish at about quarter to 10:00. Then we hit various children's meetings in the church during the week. It was a bit much actually. And we felt that at the time, that it was way over the top. Our feelings were never respected, they were never asked about. But, with the benefit of hindsight, I think I drew my strength from there, perhaps. I do have a strong faith and I've had -- I would consider myself to be a Christian, not a very good one, but you're in or you're out and, for that, I wouldn't swap it for anything

Christianity is a relationship with Jesus. Everyone’s relationship will be different

You expect salvation from Jesus. Jesus expects obedience. And that obedience is the same for all of us, so therefore our relationships with Jesus should be more similar than different. Of course, we are individuals but you get my point.

I have always liked watching this video from time to time especially as someone who is a goth and a Christian but I have one question who is this guy actually it says that he’s a Goth rock legend but they don’t list the band or who he is if anyone has any idea who this guy is what band he is a part of please could you tell me.

Who is a "good" Christian?

Only God is good brother we just strive to be. We all fall short of God's glory but the main thing is if we are still struggling and the right way to get to the Lord. Faith the size of a mustard seed moves mountains. Ye of little faith the Lord says is he reaches up and pulls us out of the waters that we sink into sometimes. Those waters are metaphors for the craziness of life. But if we are willing to give up give in and let go that is what Redemption and acceptance is all about is finding the Redeemer and accepting that we're not able to do it on our own. And that's when we find true love passion Mercy compassion and closer. Strength isn't realizing your graciousness and strength it's recognizing your weakness and God's every redeeming forgiveness. Except him everything else will fall into place. You can't come to him perfect you can only come to him as you are. No perfect people allowed we were created in His image all of us he loves us the same today yesterday and forever. God gave us all gifts to use for his glory and if Christian gothic music is a way to pull his sheep and be a shepherd to his lost lambs and sheeps and so be it. We all find God and Christ in different ways there's no one way to go about it. Love happiness and joy the loop of all joy. God bless you all my people we are all the children of God we must treat each other is so. Never look down on one person because there's only one that can see you at all times he never looked down on us two are sinful and crazy times that the Lord could have left us he will never leave us nor forsake us. That's just my word that I believe the father God has given to me to speak to anyone that is trying to judge this man. God bless you sir thank you for being what a real Christian is. Live it for Christ and see the Glorious magnificent moments and places it takes you. We are all fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. Stay the way the Creator made you.
