Very good, it happens I'm building one too. I'm using a Curtis compressor. You've got a good design. Take care

First off ... I have an ole belt drive lathe similar to yours ... mine is a 1916 Cincinnati ... love how you 'wing it' as you go same as me. Never done a Hit and Miss but I have an ole Clinton engine I'm about to try to convert for a Rat Pit Bike project. Would love to do something with the internal governor ... what ya think?

I've seen a few of these in operation, very innovative for their time, but what I've been intrigued about is Smokey Yunick's Hot Vapor Engine. Read about it when he first un-veiled it. Was that around early 1980's? I believe some of the stats were; 250 hp from a 4 cylinder don't think it was turbo or supercharged . 51 mpg... Just crazy. Not even sure if it had a radiator or any kind of water cooling. I'd love to hear your thought on that...Maybe make a short video to talk about it??

what hp do you think that would be, im guessing 1 or 2,
@jonathanw4942
@jonathanw4942 9 жыл бұрын
mustie1 I want to keep the compression low so I would be surprised if it was 1 hp. The less compression the slower it will run and it's sort of a (lets see how slow it will run) competition with all the hit and miss guys.

do you have to stick with certain compressors for these builds or can you make most any work? I've got lots of old ones kicking around.

Yes my ex-JK Jeep had wasted fire. I pulled the plugs at 80.000 miles and a couple of them were burned to the porcelain. I was in-impressed for a modern electronic ignition engine.

What's the purpose of the flywheel?
@supercarpassion991
@supercarpassion991 7 жыл бұрын
Without a flywheel on a hit and miss there would be no load. Without a load it would run WAY to fast. The only reason a hit and miss misses is because there isn"t a load on the fly wheel. When there is a load, the flywheel slows down quicker which causes the governour to close the valve quicker.
@ryanrohauer5940
@ryanrohauer5940 7 жыл бұрын
old indian basically rotating mass as he said it would run to fast and would not run right. With a heavy and or large flywheel it keeps more of its force mass×acceleration=force. More mass means u need less acceleration to do the same job. It also balances the engine.

Did you know that the first Hit and Miss using a latch on the exhaust valve was first invented by Körting of Hannover Germany in 1885? www.smokstak.com/forum/showthread.php?t=157840&page=2
