This is the best pool maintenance channel on KZbin. There are other channels that will nuke your comments for disagreeing with them (hi, Steve!) I can see the logic in what you say, and it’s all been very useful. Kudos! RIP Bob Lowry.

Orenda is great stuff

so you use it as a preventative then rather than treatment? 4-5 oz, how big is your pool?....Thanks

Ive sold alot of different phosphate chems throughout the years. Lo Chlor Lo Phos Max is by far the best if need to remove high levels

Dollar for dollar, Pr-10000 is the product. It kills it instantly and seems to be potent to really keep phosphates and algae down. I have a pool with many trees near it. I dont know why the prior people wanted a pool in a yard near trees, its maddening. Anyway, there is a eucalyptus tree that is huge behind my house on city property. I have discovered those leaves emit a huge amount of phosphorous into the water and it builds rapidly! Pr-10000 is strong enough to keep it at bay if I am out of town and leaves blow into pool on a weekend. Nophos from Leslies works, but I would need to pour 2 bottles in for an algae bloom or If I am out of town a week. I buy pr-10000 in a gallon bottle and it can pretty much get me through a season, where I was buying 2 or 3 bottles of nophos a month. The main thing is to stay on top with chlorine and chems in balance, but once youbget an algae bloom it can become an expensive chemical coctail spiral. Pr-10000 is the gold standard.

I was battling yellow algae this year, more than normal. I had high chlorine levels and was using yellow out but i kept getting blooms. I tried Phos Free and did the 1st treatment and that helped. I then starting using the maintenance dose and that killed my chlorine levels causing the algae to bloom again so I stopped using Phos Free. Did I do something wrong?

Want to share a tip. I’m repairing my Pool Cleaner thanks to this channel. I noticed it was really stained brown throughout Tried a few things and nothing budged it, I even soaked in crushed chlorine tabs… nothing. I then took some Barkeepers cleanser and magically disappeared before my eyes, I think the oxalic acid ate it away. I made a paste and used a paint brush to get in all the crevices, looks brand new. Replaced the tires , now waiting for some wheel bearings before it goes back in.

Useful info thanks. Can pollen contribute to phosphate levels?
@SPL4 ай бұрын
It's more of an organic matter that contributes to algae growth.

@SPL OK. So algae food rather than algae fertiliser I guess.

what was the digital reader you were using for phosphates?

LaMotte Spintouch.

Haven't had green algae in the pool since watching and following your borax video 2 years ago, even with high phosphate levels. Yellow mustard algae was a problem last year though- which I ended up treating. How do you prevent mustard algae though? Thanks
@SPL4 ай бұрын
Try keeping your chlorine level (FC) elevated or at a 7.5% ratio to your CYA level. If that seems overly complicated PoolRx is great for preventing algae.

If your free chlorine levels are within range, does it matter what your phosphate is? Whether phosphates are 0 or 2000 ppb, the chlorine kills the algae, right?
@SPL4 ай бұрын
Well, within range is a loaded question. If you subscribe ot Bob Lowry's teaching then yes, but withing range is a FC level of 7.5% of pool's CYA level. 👍

Well, phosphates feed algae and in turn keep your chlorine levels low? I’m stuck at 2.5 ppm. My cya is at 60/70 ppm in a salt water pool

Once you treat it your chlorine should hold.

How come nobody talks about the levels of pho? When to treat? When you can add the weekly? You all repeat the same process but never speak of the levels?
@SPL3 ай бұрын
I mentioned here that any phosphate level is a problem and that if it is 300 ppb, use PhosFree. If it is 1,000 ppb, use Orenda Pr-10,000.
@poke7778903 ай бұрын
You did… I guess what I was trying to say was. What is your phosphate plan??? I don’t believe the perfect weekly is any good ,it does nothing for me, it’s a watered down phosphate remover .that’s just a waste of money. But you’re the professional. so I’ll give you an example. I could be wrong but I’ll make up a plan as an example. “ so would it be best to never use the perfect weekly unless you’re rich and don’t care about burning money, the best plan is to buy the 1000 pho remover and wait till it hits 500ppb then clean the filter add the product and remove all phosphate to zero then wait till it hits 500 again “”??? That’s an example of a plan.. I guess I was asking what is your plan. Not 100 different ways of doing it. What is your way of managing phosphate
