Why wouldn't you use liquid shock instead of powdered shock? I have a vinyl lined inground pool and was told liquid shock is much easier on the liner, plus you don't have to double brush it.
@drdrew3
@drdrew3 Жыл бұрын
You can use whichever form of shock you have on hand. Liquid and granular equally effective
@qmerk2661

liquid chlorine is easier on liners because its not as strong as granular shock. youll also need to use a lot more liquid chlorine then if you were to use granular shock. and i mean a lot more. if the pool isnt that bad, then liquid chorine might be the better way, since its cheaper, but its still the weaker of the two. but do the same thing if you use enough liquid chlorine

Liquid and or granular shock are both fine on a vinyl liner. And the guy in the video did not need to double brush it. He could have just added the shock to begin with and then brushed it down once.

Shouldn’t the filter be running at this time. The algae needs to be removed to the filter.

Liquid chlorine is 10% sodium hypochlorite. Powder shock is 73% calcium hypochlorite.

You brush the pool so the algae and phosphates wind up in the filter. You then add phosphate remover to the skimmer so it also concentrates in the filter. You need to run the pump for a long while and brush again several times until the water clears. If there’s no algae and just treating a high phosphate level just running the pump a few minutes is adequate

The guy at my local pinch a penny advised me to run the pump of course after I add the phosphate remover and when my psi has increased 10, then backwash. Do you guys concur? I have never had a phosphate problem so I am trying to figure this out!

Step one, full chem test and assess weather you need to perform an additional phosphate test. This would be if free chlorine was low and Combined high and adequate cynuric if the UV is high. Looking at that pool, it’s surrounds, the clarity of the water, it’s residential, low bather load, little leaf debris, I doubt very much that the algae in the pool is due to phosphate and is more likely that chlorine is not being dosed adequately, or cynuric levels are low, or salt is low (if a Chlorinator is in place). Never sprinkle granular chlorine into a vinyl lined pool regardless of brushing, I can show you photos of the damage it causes over a few years. Finally when you add phosphate remover to a pool you must clean the phosphates from the filters 24-48 hrs after or the phosphate remover breaks down and releases the phosphates back into the water and you are left with the original problem. do a phosphate test and record the results

Couple of thoughts....I would never add chemicals in a skimmer. I would advise you to first set your 6 way valve to 'circulate'. Then dilute the chemical in a bucket of 10 litres or so. Then turn on your pump and slowly pour the bucket near a return flow. This way it mixes quickly in the water. Pouring non diluted chemicals in a skimmer is a thing you should never do. It's risky for the rest of your equipment. Then I was wondering if you measured the total chlorine so you could get to know the bonded level of chlorine which should be ideally 0 but not higher than 0.3 ppm. 500 ppm of phosphates is not the only reason you have algae that is almost certain. What is the PH? How high is the CYA level? Lastly I was a bit surprised that all your equipment is right in the open. All the elements, man! I would build a small simple house for your equipment, but that's me I guess. Thanks for your video!

I believe the phosphate remover is more for the filter than the water. Usually the instructions say to pour it into the skimmer. It increases the efficiency of the filter to the degree that it captures the phosphates. This is why the pressure builds and you eventually need to backwash.
@Peter-Alexander
@Peter-Alexander Жыл бұрын
@@carlmazziotti221 Yes, I guess it depends on the product. Mine was a european product called 'phos out 3xl' which I tried as my level was 1000 ppb. The instructions said I have to dilute it into a bucket. So I tried that and only used 100ml for my 70 cubic metres pool. The whole pool turned quite turbid to my surprise. But a flocculant (I use flovil tablets) happily solved that and phosphates went down to 100 ppb. Which phosphate remover product do you use? And are you happy with it? I also did a backwash afterwards. Although my pool had 1000ppb the water was cristal clear with no algae. I guess because there is enough chlorine in the pool and the CYA level is only 30. PH is usually between 7.4 and 7.6. I use a swg.

Pool company owner here. Leslies pool supply shock is actually recommended to go into the skimmer while the pump is running and I find it much easier than walking around sprinking it in everywhere and it getting on the deck and flying if the wind blows

? You have to add cya through the skimmer and it is advisable to put most chemicals through the skimmer, says in on most of the chemicals directions

The pool needs a sweep, always test phos before adding any chemicals and 8oz of phos remover 3 days after clean off filters, no need to “shock” pool

I would not do that....just once okay but if you throw back all your test results in your pool and it consists of chemicals you don't get rid of....okay it's not a lot but why should you do it when it's not necessary....decide what you think is best 😊

If your chlorine levels are good and your combined chlorine is 0 and you don’t have too much CYA then algae won’t grow even if there are phosphates in the pool.
@Kasey84

This is mustard algae he is referring to, it is chlorine resistant, you can have every level perfectly but if certain things like fertilizer ect. Manage to get into the water at all, its not fun to try to fix. I’m dealing with it now first time in 9 years maintaining my own pool.

It’s cheap, easy and effortless to keep phosphates levels at zero as well. It’s another layer of protection because every once in a while every pool zeroes out of chlorine

That’s incorrect. Phosphates binds to free chlorine and creates organic compounds making the all important free chlorine unavailable to oxidize the water.
