Thank you so much for watching everyone. There is something I wanted to address regarding my video. You can always experience struggle or low points in life no matter what your financials are like. I agree with those pointing this out to me in the comments of the video. You are absolutely correct. I included in my title of the video that the viral post that went around a few years back was "made up" (literally has no source), but because I chose to say the word "false" in reference to the quote in the viral post, and not specify that the viral post itself was made-up, I unintentionally suggested that rich people don't have low points in life and don't struggle. I apologize to everyone for making that mistake and hurting a lot of viewers in the process. Depression affects everyone regardless of status. Regarding the viral-post, Takeuchi has never said "I was at a low place, so I wrote about girls I wish were my friends" in any interviews and goes against the story of how Sailor Moon came to be in the first place. The purpose of my video was to debunk that made-up viral post. While it was wholesome, it was completely different from what actually happened behind the scenes. I wanted to tell the story of how Sailor Moon was actually created backed with credible sources (links included in my video description) that include interviews with Takeuchi and her editors behind Sailor Moon. Other Sailor Moon fansites and fans have also debunked that viral post as well (I also included links of them in my video description) The creation of Sailor Moon all started because Toei wanted a Sailor V anime and Takeuchi instead created Sailor Moon with five core members. She chose five because she was inspired by Himitsu Sentai Gorenger (The first Super Sentai made up of five members. It's also the same franchise that inspired Power Rangers in the 90s). And that her lifestyle growing up was also written into the characters and settings. Again, I want to apologize to those I've hurt with the careless writing in my script. I promise to do better.

It was a misstep. The problem is like the OP ppl are quick to link “at a low place” with all the way “down bad” and struggling, which makes them love and support the come up even more. Yes, you can still be at a low place and be rich. Yes, you can struggle in more ways than one esp financially. But the real problem lies when ppl are always quick to equate the two. It’s always instantaneously, and it shouldn’t be bc one is not like the other. It’s not one over the other, but there is a clear difference in being rich (grew up rich too) in life and struggling with a project at the moment, relatively ok and struggling in the moment, and flat out broke/poor and grew up broke and poor then having the underdog story evb loves to follow along to. There will always be a difference. I’m not too sure if this is the route they wanted to take, but basically, there’s no reason to create the sympathetic overly wholesome “underdog” background plot esp with misconstrued words that leaves everything in for debates. With that, I also want to point out how misconstruing said words easily cause bigger problems within a back and forth. Bc ppl will automatically feel to think in a bad place & struggling as maybe always struggling (financially etc) grew up poor they might relate and get even happier knowing how far everything has come-versus her not being that bad, actually well off enough (financially) which makes them take a step back and feel a way all based of something that got subjugated from individual to individual. The mood is set more intense, the ovation higher for the thoroughly struggling artist vs the artist who was struggling in a way yea but not the way we thought oto not even saying anything. It wasn’t wrong or all too careless to point out how she wasn’t struggling..in the way most would think first. More ppl may have been unaware for so long and put more feels into it thinking she was struggling in this way rather than that way, when she wasn’t. There was something else I felt to include but…🫠😅

Big dreams require lots of funding and spare time. When you’re poor you’re gonna be working hard and focused on surviving and keeping the lights on. You won’t have the money or free time to develop and advance yourself in personal hobbies yet alone turn them into careers. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it’s definitely a lot more harder stressful. Rich people tend to be more successful in entertainment cause they already have the free time and money to invest in it. They also don’t have to stress as much over the financial losses or hits that happen when their projects aren’t successful.

If you're worrying about money, or health, or just sustaining yourself, you don't have as much time as well-off people to do what you love. A support system allows you to have those precious pockets of time where you can do what you love without sacrificing your money and wellbeing. Providing for yourself is exhausting, especially if you're living paycheck to paycheck.

Exactly. Plus, a lot of artists don't have degrees in visual art, music, theater, etc. but still do well, while some that do have these sorts of degrees can still struggle. It doesn't seem to make much difference when it comes to getting a good job, aside from acquiring skill, and there are cheaper ways to do so. People should take these college classes in art if they really need it to perfect their craft AND they can afford it, not because they think that if they get the degree, they'll be a successful artist.

I love Sailor Moon. She opened a lot of doors for me. After discovering her, I bought Sailor Moon playing cards and posters. I love her so much. I remember reading an article about her in Asiaweek magazine. I had it photocopied and framed. It's been displayed on my cabinet for many years now. Thanks to Sailor Moon, I found something I can focus my mind. I devoted my time into watching anime, read manga, going to conventions, and meeting like minded people there. the figure skating gave her away. no upper class girls do figure skating in a pro way. only the high end born girls able to afford professional figure skating way. it's a very subtle and elegant flex. in figure skating you really have to have the unlimited money to afford it, the time to spend it, the correct height to do it (figure skating is very unfriendly to height, too tall she would be janky, too short she wouldnt be able to jump), and the last.. the support of full house wife mom. only 1% of the 1% of high end society girls able to thrive in figure skating world.

I grew up with Sailor Moon in the 90s and studied it religiously on the early internet in all its glory, so I’m shocked when to find there are still things to learn about Naoko! I had no idea about her pharmacology background and how serious she was about it. If I had known that growing up, I think my life would have gone a lot differently honestly lmao. I loved Ami the most growing up, Usagi had definitely become more endearing and relatable over time, though I love all of them and their group dynamics especially brought out by the anime filler. I know Togashi is best known for Hunter x Hunter, but we oldies grew up with Yu Yu Hakusho. It's just groundbreaking at the time and paved the way for new shonen manga. If you like Sailor Moon, check out Please Save My Earth by Saki Hiwatari. There are similarities as Takeuchi was inspired by it, but PSME is a darker story.

Naoko Takeuchi is amazing! She was so multi talented. She was intelligent became a pharmacist among many other things. Also, a lot of her characters represent certain aspect of her and her life. She also was a Shinto Shrine Maiden like Mars, she loves ports cars which Uranus represents and such. I love Sailor Moon and Naoko soo much! She also is amazingly beautiful as well. Was Sailor Moon the series that popularized superhero action in magical girl anime? Of course, there was Cutey Honey way earlier, but the magical girl series of the 80s seem to mostly be the Creamy Mami type. After Sailor Moon, magical girl shows started incorporating a lot of action elements. Card Captor Sakura, Pretty Cure, etc.

Incoming wall of text, sorry, I talk a lot. Cutey Honey was an ecchi shonen manga though...she was more in line with Supergirl or Wonder Woman in Japan's eyes. I would say that Sailor Moon wasn't the only first of the period, but definetely made the magical girl genre relevant again. The magical girls of the past were, at their core, coming of age fairy tales. The transformation is a metaphor for growing up, coming in terms with change and adapting to new information and environments. Add in fancy outfits, parallels to a western witch (like a wand, something to fly with and a pet), and you got a magical girl. CCSakura was a genius series on that regard; with Sailor Moon introducing action, how would a traditional magical girl act in the new millenium? Fancy outfits per episode? Check. Magical companions? Check. Parallels to maturity and growing up? Check. A broom to fly? The fly card. More modern elements like antagonists and queer relationships? Check! And Pretty Cure, the original was a power duo of magical girls. On the surface it seemed like a Sailor Moon clone, but if you dug deeper? It went back to the core of it lol. The original is literally an animated tokusatsu series (the clearest reference I can think to it is Kamen Rider) There are way too many tropes to list, but believe me, there are a ton. From kitchy special effects to side storylines balancing between silliness and a very serious plot. Tl;dr, Sailor Moon was indeed the first to show that the magical girl can be more than girls going through fairytale puberty, but her era included many firsts in the genre as well :D

@@evanmak7837 I mentioned Cutey Honey because I've read that people consider it a magical girl series. I don't really agree with that since it is definitely wasn't aimed at a shoujo audience like every other magical girl series. It did, however, have the superhero, action, monster-of-the-week structure of the series from the 90s onwards.

@@fattiger6957 Sailor Moon popularised the super hero genre of magical girls in anime but it didn't create it as there were live action tokusatsu magical girl series that predated it. SM also didn't kill off non-superhero mahou shoujo as plenty of them were produced afterwards and a lot of female superhero anime that get thought of as magical girl shows in the west aren't marketed as mahou shoujo series in Japan.

@@fattiger6957 The all girl super hero shows I'm thinking of are all post Sailor Moon and mostly have a male audience so I'm sorry if that wasn't clear. As far as I know the live action mahou shoujo series were all single heroine until the Sailor Moon live action. Sailor Moon's anime didn't necessarily have a 'shoujo' audience either. A youtube channel called Japan Hero has some videos on female led tokusatsu series that predated sailor moon.

In 1999 she Married the Yu Yu Hakusho creator while both IT and Sailor Moon came out the same year 1992 in JAPAN the English Dub of the 2 series were first in 1995 Sailor Moon and Yu Yu in like 2002 so Yu Yu Hakusho's ENGLISH dub actually had LOADS of Sailor Moon references in it English dub only.

Still my favorite anime of all time!! I grew up with it and it probably formed parts of my personality as well :D My favorite scout is Minako ^^ I don't care if Takeuchi comes from a rich family or not. It's important what she did and I think she did amazing! The ideas and stories were groundbreaking at that time, and many others followed her steps :)

True. I still enjoy the impact of their work. I do think that I would not personally meet all of our favorite celebrities. Their impact is still discussed. We just gotta discuss it with more nuance than a blanket statement. Especially with Nostalgia Critic who described the outfits without any context. Superficial reaction is not great when the series has more subtext that is overlooked. Yes, the outfits would be outdated but I still see it with how Japan's society grew. That social caricature in most series should be transparent too.

Lol in one of her manga volume, she described that she went to NASA just to do a research for her Kaguya storyline. She's also super fashionable and fluent in English, so I knew she's a wealthy and well educated woman since I was a kid

the figure skating gave her away. no upper class girls do figure skating in a pro way. only the high end born girls able to afford professional figure skating way. it's a very subtle and elegant flex. in figure skating you really have to have the unlimited money to afford it, the time to spend it, the correct height to do it (figure skating is very unfriendly to height, too tall she would be janky, too short she wouldnt be able to jump), and the last.. the support of full house wife mom. only 1% of the 1% of high end society girls able to thrive in figure skating world.
