@El.Duder-ino24 күн бұрын
@@thewingedhussar4188Good points. It doesn't matter if India buys it or not as cheap oil and gas will always find its customers. We do not live in the world of energy independence nor abundance, where oil and gas won't have customers. Coal is a different story, but oil and gas is and will most likely continue to be for many decades on high demand. From this perspective it's pretty spectacular how trade connects people around the world, however stupid projection of power through politics and military action can do exactly the opposite. But what else can western world do besides sanctions if they don't want to start war with Russia? EU has realized that energy or trade dependence on some big players like Russia or China can harm in the long by being blackmailed and manipulated. Trade has unfortunately became long time ago not just a way to connect together globally, but also another weapon in the arsenal of global powers. So in the end it does matter who r u doing business with. And thx for reminding me that numbers and overall data coming from the authoritarian governments r always questionable😉On the other hand even democratic governments can lie same as authoritarian, but probability is lower.

This is why I think Iran and Venezuela will eventually figure out a way to circumvent US sanctions. Developing countries are more concerned about mass poverty, and every country that has ever escaped poverty has only done so by increasing energy consumption per capita, so those countries will have very small qualms about buying oil from Iran or Venezuela under the table.

@@Abhinav-m4o Yes, NATO is purely defensive. None of those events are annexations. No land was taken an all were undertaken by an international coalition. Russia invaded and annexed 4 countries in 30 years. Russia shares company with Iraq, Turkey, and, arguably, Armenia/Azerbaijan in being the only country or organization in the last 30 years to invade and annex another one.

Goods sanctions are most effective when they are imposed by virtually the entire world. A notable example is the extensive sanctions levied against South Africa in the 1980s, which played a significant role in facilitating the downfall of the apartheid regime. Unless they are nearly universal, however, trade sanctions are often less effective than expected. As Richard Hanania observed in a 2020 Cato Institute analysis, US-imposed trade sanctions “almost always fail to achieve their goals.” Moreover, “sanctions have massive humanitarian costs and are not only ineffective but likely counterproductive.” One reason for this is that unless there is near-universal global participation, traders can easily redirect sanctioned goods through third-party countries. Iran, for example, has managed to circumvent Western sanctions by constructing a sophisticated oil-smuggling network. Similarly, sanctioned Chinese goods are reportedly still entering the US market, as China-based firms reroute their exports through countries like Vietnam and Mexico. Following Russian SMO in Ukraine in February 2022, the U.S. and its allies imposed unprecedented trade and financial sanctions on Russia, including a ban on technology and military exports. They also introduced a $60-per-barrel price cap on Russian oil, designed to cripple Russia’s economy while ensuring that Europe could avoid a politically destabilizing energy crisis. These measures have been largely unsuccessful. While financial sanctions forced oil traders to secure ships with suitable insurance coverage before finalizing transactions, the price of Russian oil did not fall below $60 per barrel. By November 2023, it had risen to $84.20 as Russian companies developed various methods of circumventing Western restrictions, such as inflated shipping costs and a “shadow fleet” consisting of more than 100 old tankers. Meanwhile, more than $1 billion in sanctioned goods have reportedly vanished amid the expansion of the Russian “ghost trade.” Moreover, the Russian sanctions have given rise to a number of intermediaries, with countries like India, China, Armenia, Greece, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Singapore effectively becoming “laundromats” for Russian oil and other sanctioned goods. When a company is identified and sanctioned, a new company, operating under a different name, often takes its place. One Greek company even sold Russian oil to the U.S. military. Habeck previously called Germany's economic situation "dramatically bad". Energy costs soared after Russia's SMO in Ukraine two years ago. This sparked inflation, meaning that households are feeling squeezed. Volkswagen plans to close “at least” three factories in Germany, lay off tens of thousands of staff and downsize remaining plants in the country, the company’s employee group said Monday. The domestic factory closures would be the first in Volkswagen’s 87-year history, and they lay bare the challenges facing Germany’s largest manufacturer. Volkswagen management recently presented plans to the council that include a 10% reduction in pay across the board, as well as wage freezes in 2025 and 2026, according to Daniela Cavallo, head of the works council. France is now financing itself at a higher cost than Greece or Spain, increasing the risk of further limiting its budgetary flexibility. Italy's economic struggles stem from high public debt, slow productivity growth, and regional disparities. Additional challenges include an aging population and. Italy's economy-the Eurozone's third largest has languished in recent years. In 2010, the country's GDP was roughly three-quarters that of France's; by 2022, that figure slipped to less than two-thirds. A declining population, a high stock of debt, a rigid jobs market and copious red tape.

No that's not how oil works if you the USA, start sanctioning all of tankers they use, start sanctioning any country that does trade with Russia in any shape or form what u get is sky high oil prices and loss of any unity in taking action of sanctions. If u want any non western country to take part in sanction this must happen, even Japan has purchased Russian oil above the price cap. Plus hit to the reputation of USA as a wild and irrational superpower only gives the advantage to China.

That was a thinly veiled concession to the weaknesses of capitalist democracy. As terrible as it sounds, it's probably still the right decision. Long term, we need to get off oil, period.
