What a legend. it all started because his teacher found him, believed in him, and gave him an outlet for his anger. RIP Mr. Pigden.

I was a teacher for a decade. The first time I watched that Wrighty/pidgin clip years ago brought tears to my eyes and still does. Teaching is one of the most difficult jobs in the world. Take a moment out of your life today and thank someone who taught you an important lesson and saw something in you when you didn’t. Who knows where Ian would be without Mr Pigden.

Ian Wright is easily one of the best all round forwards to have graced the game of football. One of the coolest finishers to ever live along with players like Inzaghi, van Nistelrooy & Klose. He was never ever given the credit he deserved. It is a crime that this man was rarely allowed to start for England.
@kino6395
@kino6395 4 ай бұрын
A crime isn't fair as the other names around the time are also insane, even Wrighty admits he wouldn't have started. But in the same interview he also said that he should have been there for the 1996 euros as that game Vs Germany he said was a game he was perfect for and he hates the England manager at the time for not taking him. I can't remember who they took instead but a Wrighty extra time winner at Wembley would have been a crowning achievement on your favourite uncle of English football. Plus I don't doubt he would have found a way to grab a goal in such a cagey game.

We all know during the 90s...and even now, England weren't the best at making personnel decisions. There is a reason they consistently have stacked rosters but zero Euro trophies and 1 World Cup from the 60s. You can't be a nation with so much talent but so much failure without having bad decision making.

Growing up watching the Premier League in the 90’s and early 00’s, there were certain strikers who I always felt were going to score when they played - Ian Wright, Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Andrew Cole, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Dwight Yorke, Les Ferdinand, Teddy Sheringham, Eric Cantona … I honestly feel like there was something special with strikers back then because they weren’t as protected as they are now, and defenders could make tackles in the 90’s that the UN would classify as a hate crime and are banned by the Geneva Convention in 2024! 😂

Wrighty's charisma, not charm (look up the difference), came from the fact he was an everyman who people could relate to. He was living the dream we all dreamt of as a kid and made a good career out of something he made sure you knew he was enjoying and appreciated it. He really did play like a fan given the chance to be on the pitch. Great guy. Wrighty was the kind of guy who could start a conga line with 5,000 Arsenal fans at White Hart Lane and get away with it.
