Thanks Phil. My neighbor, a helluva faller himself, put one of these in a tree he did for me years ago. He explained it to me then, but I remember looking at the stump with my eyes glazing over, hahaha. I can still see that tree swinging like 120 degrees and falling right into the tightest little spot. It absolutely blew me away.

It is a darn usefull technique when it works, and it can at least give a chance to a guaranteed heartbreak otherwise!

@@timberfallingcouple It is a thing of great beauty when it works right, but when it breaks off low, or worse, sits there on the kicker with your saw hung up in it, thats the heartbreak.

@haroldolds ahahahaha yes indeed or splits between two in a very tight manner like a baseball bat with the butt hung up on something and you have to get under it to cut the bind tree down out front.. cat only got nine lives man.

@haroldolds that sounds absolutely awesome and I would support that endeavor if you do it!! Not often a guy comes around that I respect in the log cutting, commercial timberfalling side of things. Glad to have you around.

Having only recently discovered these videos, I had not seen previous videos on the use of the "Dutchman", until I looked for them. Video of a year ago "How a Dutchman works for tree felling, plus one 5 months ago on same subject, with Phil drawing pictures, plus this video, is a lot of very good information.

There! Thank you so much, that puts it all together, showing these methods, and the reasons for using them. I also appreciate the warning that while these are great, proven methods, its still a gamble.

It’d be great to see this explained as you bring one down, when the need arises. In fact, even a small series of videos showing the initial analysis of the tree, and where end how you want to bring them down would be superb. I know these skills are hard earned and you may not want to share, so no problem if you hold back. I might do the same. Also, if I may, how does a 23 yr old commercial fisherman who is a woman go about getting into this business? Walking up and asking for work is the drill in fishing, are things the same with yours? Any online communities for you loggers that you can recommend? I read your comment that the work is learn on the fly, and that’s just like fishing in Alaska. How does a person who knows nobody and nothing of your work connect with the right person to work for?

The Associated Oregon Loggers website, the Associated California Loggers Website, and the Washington Loggers association all have directories on their website which are good for making cold calls. I can do a more detailed video, knowing what to do and learning the skill by telepathy are two completely different things. I'd rather the entire community of cutters knew what I know. Then we'd be all the same and everybody would have more overrun and make more money for cheaper. But alas. Good luck be more clear with your video request and Sadie will be sure to direct me next time she pulls her camera out.

Solid explanation without the bullsh1t dribble. Sizwheel's are the shit for this scenario. Haters can take a hike...

You take your computer and shove it up your... After step one you can go get a cash paying job. Preferably one that doesn't involve selling your body or soul to anyone. Third, enjoy your humanity. That is, providing you can somehow get your thoughts uploaded into a human body.
