Many people do not realize that the modern way of "dating" is not Biblical and many people, especially women, are getting hurt and killed with this method. If you are a true Christian, you are to seek God and His guidance for a spouse through fasting, praying, reading the Word of God (Bible) and waiting on God (PATIENCE). God, in His own way and His own wisdom will guide you to your Kingdom spouse. Women, realize that there is a lot of misogyny in our current world and just because a man pays attention to you, has sex with you, etc. does not mean he even LIKES you. Read Men Who Hate Women. Last and most importantly, meeting a spouse and marrying God's way includes NO sexual activity before marriage. It will create spiritual soul ties that will be extremely difficult to get delivered from and can alter your destiny (and eternity) for the worse.

It's a dowry of a sort. A token of a man's intentions. It's up to the woman to determine if she trust a man enough to accept a ring from him. I've known men who proposed just to keep a woman quiet and waiting, when in fact, he had no intentions of ever carrying out a marriage. It depends on where you are in life.
