I've been spamming a load of Abaddon for months now, figuring out what works and what doesn't for fun. It's almost you could say my obsession. Need to clarify something, your item suggestions are cool and cookie cutter in the 'meta' for him, but I'd like to make a few suggestions. I would like to preface by saying - since with his shield and ult he is practically unkillable when for when you need it - that his primary focus should be on gap close and lock down, with on-hit effects as a focus for more utility and damage. 1- Early: Start off with quelling, slippers and bracelet. Judge whether to go stick or wand. Phase and Orb of Corrosion. 2- Baseline: Echo after Orb is bread and butter IMO, unless there is a manta rush involved. Not only does it apply 2 stacks, it also slows by 100% for 1 second, which helps a lot more than you think. Here is where you initially think about blademail too, its a cool addition to your ult, they will refuse to hit you or heal you/ damage themselves for 9-11 seconds if you space it out. After that options open up depending on the game. 3- Catch: For max gap close and lock down, you can go Harpoon, Manta into Blink. FUN FACT: As far as I know, Abaddon is the only hero I know that can legit blink while being hammered with attacks through ult, you can bait so much with this if needed (phase and harpoon a target, ult and then blink the back line etc.). 4- On-hit: Mixed category here. The ultimate item for him is the new Bloodthorn if all you need is damage. its crazy and gives him exactly what he wants. Massive attack speed, a silence, regen, 60 damage on attack... true strike... its just stupid. bit expensive but there are 2 more items. As i said on hit effects are what you are looking for, and for lock down look for Mage Slayer vs magic (practically gimps a Leshrac or Timber) and adds 20 magic DPS as a bonus with massive attack speed for the cost, and mana regen. Abyssal is awesome for physical lock down provided you have the attack speed. My favorite damage item is Parasma for the cost effectiveness. More DoT on the target, 25% slow and the 20% magic debuff while giving mana regen, attack speed and armor. Something you wont get every game, but you can look out for vs illusion and zoo heroes is Mjollnir. Just apply and tank, everything disappears. 5- Tank'n Save: Scepter with a mix of the above is just silly. makes you tank for longer and makes your team survive so much damage. Burst is your only enemy here. Skill build and talents side note: level Q starting level 11. If yall haven't figured it out yet, the ult allows you to engage, without it you need to switch gears. You can easily take a backseat and snipe damage and/or heals or sustain with Q and shield. This brings me to talents. Since you aren't gearing for tanky, the 14HP regen (that you can give to allies is insane. Your essentially a bruiser sustain healer tank. level 25 is subjective, but with on hit effects and shard, which you can aim to buy super late, the AoE coil is just good. You can clear waves and camps with one Q, and heal as well as damage in a circle. Edit: Never thought of radiance as worth the investment, you can have a full harpoon, or almost an Echo with a Mage slayer with the same cost, and you don't scale the same with pure attack damage. Especially early. Just my opinion.

I always dreamed of a build like this on him. Manta Illusions + Echo Saber is an almost insta curse. Good to see it that it makes sense this patch. Seems nutty, it will for sure get nerfed.

Absolutely! There's already been a build in the past where this is what you did - but now that you can do magical damage to towers, and do it safely with illusions, not to mention the raw damage it does. Completely vile.

I spammed Abaddon 1 day before 7.35b patch. Phase Boots + corosion + solar crest gave me 7-0 wins on that day but suddenly solar crest got nerfed and I am having like 45% win rate with Abaddon now. Good to see this guide

Yeah, Crest got hit super hard, although for good reason. I was planning covering Abaddon pretty much from day 1 of the patch, but had to redo some things due to the b nerf. The footage from first game also shows usage of the pre-nerfed Solar Crest. Keep on trucking with him! He's still way overturned as he is right now, and will net some good wins when played correctly 👍

You cant imagine how happy i am to finally seeing aba finally meta on core build. he's my fav hero but the for the past few years i strictly play him only on pos 5 role but now i almost always play him as an offlaner. seriously, this new aba feels super good unlike pre 7.35 which is kinda clunky to use. orb of corrosion > echo sabre > radiance > finish harpoon > manta is usually my go to core items on pos 3 aba

Very True! We've had Abaddon a bit like this in the past, like you said, but it's definitely some good few years back at this point. I strongly recommend going soul ring with the regen on shield talent, solves both your mana and hp sustain, both of which are naturally very bad. Also being trying diffusal instead of echo saber, not sure if it's better but if you are against some hero that don't like getting mana burn you should consider it.

Assuming you're playing right-click Abaddon (Passive / Shield) you don't exactly need a lot of Mana, and stick will be more than enough to keep you going - even better if you can snatch the occasional Lotus. You don't exactly need Diffusal on Abaddon, since he's able to effectively have one semi-permanently from just hitting once with his passive + Corrosion. That said - I always recommend people think critically of how they build a hero. My guides mostly serve as a push in the right direction. If you're going item's that are working in your games, then you already have a winning formula.

It is - But it should be reserved more often for support Abaddon, where it will have the most effect. The insane part about it before on literally any hero was the attack speed that came tied in free, not to mention the 0 mana cost. They balanced the item the right way by making it more appealing to use it on others as opposed to yourself.

It IS an option - but generally inferior to both going the more active route (Echosabre) or the more greedy one (Radiance) In general, I'm a big advocate for a player skilling and building ON THE FLY - DotA 2 is rarely a game that's set in stone, and the best players are often the ones that know how to adjust to a match on a per-game-basis Abaddon actually farms surprisingly fast with just an Echo, especially due to how they buffed the damage of his passive. In general, try and play around with your preferred style - If you feel like your game might go well from Midas, try and do it and see what the end result is within the games you play; experimentation is key! How does a support help to counter him?

You mean how to counter Abaddon when you're facing him? In general, it helps tremendously if you're ranged, and have good right clicking damage. Heroes with DOT spells will have their damage removed by his shield, but you can take down his HP from a distance with right clicks. A top-tier support hero, Oracle, is really good at dealing with him. He has great right clicking, high burst, and his Q counters the Aphotic Shield by removing it through dispelling!

Funny thing is - Even before the massive buff to his passive, I genuinely feared playing against support Abaddon, yet the heroes showing at TI was lackluster, so he got the buff treatment instead. He's most likely going to remain viable as a hero throughout the patch, but chances are that once the nerfs are done, he's going to go back to an Aphotic/Mist Coil playstyle.
