I had just assumed that he survived the way he did in The Man In Room 1280 story, but with Cassidy keeping him alive, and then Glitchtrap is created, and from there he's able to manipulate someone to trap Cassidy in Princess Quest, and he returns as Burntrap.

Well actually, there are many many clues and hints in the books that basically prove that William actually ISN'T back, but rather is The Mimic. The Mimic is an Endo Skeleton that was designed to watch the og fnaf crew perform and mimic that. However it saw the mci and started mimicking that. This endo is pretty op, as it has the ability to switch out parts of it's own body and change its endo in order to fit into ANY animatronic. Basically, this is an AI that thinks it's William Afton.

Another thing to point out, is that Fnaf 6 William has no flesh on his skull. Even in the Tales from the pizzaplex books Epilogues said that the endo that killed the workers has a head with a frontal bone on it, which sounds like Burntraps description. And Burntraps head has flesh on it. It's weird, but his design os still cool. Also, has anyone noticed how it's strange that Burntrap looks shorter than freddy when we see SFM videos of Security breach?
