Its sad that they use the seiyuus voice without permission and don't even credit them and instead use names of characters they've voiced. Some companies are trying to combat with, like Yuki Kaji getting a vocal synth of his voice, which helps the seiyuu and fans who want to make covers of their voices.

Kaji-san put it really well. AI is terrifying, not only because of how well it has progressed in the past few years even, but also because of what it means for livelihood of human beings. It can never capture the soul and the emotions of humans in art forms but, most people nowadays just want things done the easier way. That one reason is enough for people to lose jobs because AI is a cheaper option compared to paying salaries or wages to human beings. It has already started happening. I'm scared for the future. I've never watched AI covers because it felt wrong to me. These people have trained their entire life and worked hard so their voices gain recognition only for it to be imitated by AI, listening to them feels wrong in a way.

In the end it's how the person that using it for, don't blame the AI blame the person that using it for the wrong reason. For example, if the VA is sick, instead waiting them recover or using susbtitute that sounds different, AI is a good choice. Obviously you still need to get permission/giving credit to the original VA. A gun can be used for killing or protectimg yourself, all depends on the user.

It's a choice. and we always did what it convenient for us the most. It's a tool. and nobody really cares what the rest is going to do. that's the scary part. Did you know that we have the technology to create real-time AI voice now? and you can indeed mimic feelings by letting someone else use the voice. you only need two voices, a person and a voice's mimic. render it. and boom you have a unable voice that even captures the space of your gasp breathing. imagine how much they can do. if those people know how to make it like some of us can do. It's not going to be funny or haha. I bet some people going to use the voice in the factory like a catalogue. the uniqueness that people have. they're nothing. and people are going to lose interest cause it's easier to do it that way or some people going to steal their voice anyway. why even bother to do the unstable job that nobody cares cause the profession in the work line is dead like people who work in factory that the only thing people care is product not people. Voice actors have been fighting against companies that don't want to put an anti-AI clause for months. Because they want to own the right to use our voices as they please. And with public IA's like this, they want the general public to get used to the IA, to it's crappyness because that way, if big companies uses it, people will be already used to that. It's ironic when people take seiyuu's voices without any interest in what they might have to say about it. People can be so thoughtless, even going as far as making covers of inappropriate songs or making VAs say horrible things that could get them in trouble if their agency requires them to represent the company honorably. Or even tagging the VA's accounts in the comments to try and get them to laugh about it too. I hope seiyuus and the staff managing them can start gaining more control over the situation, claiming copyright if they come across AI covers like this and getting them taken down-- maybe people think that's an extreme thing to say, but people really shouldn't be rewarded for treating seiyuus so disrespectfully, when their hard work is the reason why the shows we love even exists. Like man, imagine how discouraging that must be to them :( Thank you for making this video Curry, and I hope it helps spread the word about the issue

Though I thoroughly agree that companies and seijuu's deserve more control over these types of situations, these AI voices are meant to be plain fun, and no matter what companies and people do, they will exist. I know I may be killed for this, but when thinking about how things have worked before, for ex. presidential candidates bad mouthing eachother, as long as people can understand that something was generated by an AI or is generally fake, there shouldn't be too much of a problem. The next thing I would like to mention is that when an internet exists, seperate opinions exist (for example, what I am saying right now). A voice actor already has so many various problems to deal with such as people criticizing their body or face, their ability to voice act, or even just how they exist. AI is just creating another problem that may or may not be worse, but I don't think its as big as a problem considering all of their worries that they have to deal with. I like what people are doing with AI voices, I don't like what people are capable of doing with AI voices, and I think voice actors think like that too. Just as Napoleon said in that one video (I don't even know if he truely said this) "There is nothing we can do," so might as well see where it goes eh?

@@defnotnaruto222 It's true that voice actors have more problems than fan-made stuff-- though AI is still a big problem, e.g. voice actors being hired for recording sessions that are secretly meant to serve as AI training data that will replace them. And AI voices being trained off of this type of work, without permission or compensation. But imo these AI covers are in the same category as social media accounts that repost other people's art. It's stolen data (in the case of AI voices that are trained/used without permission) and turned into content that can grow the social media of the person who posted it, without compensation for the people who own the content that they're repurposing. They could try to ask permission (which they likely wouldn't get) or stick with AI voices that were trained ethically, but they wouldn't profit off of that as much. I get that people still enjoy AI covers and that there will be a demand for it no matter what. But in these cases we're looking at people who prioritize growing their own accounts over supporting the VA that they're stealing from. There's no "transformative" aspect to it to argue Fair Use (using copyrighted material for the benefit of the public) and willingly infringes upon copyrighted work, so in a legal context it has no legs to stand on. I guess people will have to decide for themselves how they feel about that and encouraging people to create this type of work without permission from the voice actor they're a fan of. But you're right, we'll just have to see where it goes.

Kaji Yuuki is absolutely right about everything he said. This opinion also applies to most medium of art, especially in the drawing scene. You basically ignore the hard work, effort, soul, and sweat made by real people. AI may sound technologically breaking, amazing, and convenient but NOT ALWAYS. It definitely helps some people but in the end, it's how you use it. If you simply use it without any regards, like for example, seiyuus in this case, it's not fun or amazing anymore. You can technically use it for selling their voice, or even blackmailing them, and worse, be used as evidence for a crime that a real person did not even commit. In my personal opinion, AI has no place in public use or on art. The AI I can only accept or had dreamt of is if something like Jarvis from Iron Man, something similar to Chobits, or even self made desktop/laptop buddy assistant to help you find files and stuff from your own computer like the hackers used in fiction, or lastly, just a non-sentient being to practice your social skill or at least someone to talk to if you are lonely. Assistant AI? Yes. AI taking over your/a role/s? No.

Realise how kaji-san never said anything about AI taking their jobs Becuase it cant This is all about soul and heart, and like he said the pride of a performer And seeing their voices as these hollow husks of AI generated content is something that would hurt But on the contrary i do think this relates a little bit back to the pirating issue. Why do we make AI covers? Why do we listen to them? Because we want to hear these voice actors sing these songs. There is an obvious demand for it and the big japanese corporations are not aware enough to tap into it. And even when they do, CrosSing, a youtube channel that was created to get different seiyuus and artists to sing other songs, they dont know how to make it work. I think there have been more attempts at tapping into this market as of late, one example is bokuyaba, they got youmiya hina to sing the opening, which was nice to see. CrosSing was able to get itself as big as the first take i think the community would be very happy and the demand for AI covers would dwindle. That said, seiyuus are very busy people and it is very hard to get them to do something like this

I hope people stop, as amusing as it is. People stealing others voices, especially if they're voice actors, is really harmful and creepy. And of course, companies will exploit it to avoid having to pay for actual voice actors. Being a huge seiyuu fan, stumbling across some of the AI covers feels very uncanny, in the beginning, you could tell it was AI, but now, its developed to the point where if you're not paying close attention, you could easily mistaken it as legit. Tbh, i did try this kind of thing before with some Chinese web that can generated seiyuu voice to what i want, back in that time its still premature AI. I think if you want to use it on your own, like you want your waifu character says "i love you" or anything its Ok as long you keep it for yourself. But what i see now like 2 days ago i found a video when Hu Tao (Rieri voice) and Zhongli (Maeno voice) arguing, ngl it sounds real. Now thats is terrible, not for me as fans but terrible for our beloved seiyuu who put their soul to the characters.

It's so terrifying 😰 Just like he said, it will end up to be something that no one can control at the end, but at the same time, everyone would be involved, the people who invented it & who used it. Not only VAs but even artists, some people say that it would actually help artists because they would get paid more, but I think that instead of spending money, people will just use AI to generate artworks. I mean, poor artists, spend weeks, months & years working on an artwork, they put all their effort into it, while the evil AI just finishes it in one minute! Thank you for raising awareness by posting the video, we all need to know what kind of era we will be living in as we move on with our lives, and how to not lose control against these silly AI

@mimimiyakooo omg I'm glad you brought Koyasu-san up cause I remember when One Piece Red came out, a TikTok became viral of a DIO cosplayer who sounded almost exactly as Koyasu-san going to see the movie. And people thought he was legitimately Koyasu-san. And while I really do admire the impersonators and how fucking attentive they are to the voices they're trying to imitate (like, this particular TikToker is so painfully accurate and I'm worried I even noticed certain little details like how he pronounces the T and the S?), I think people just... should investigate more. I don't think impersonators are inherently harming anybody but it's the non-JP speaking fandom what's causing this harm

I know someone who think it's okay to label themselves VAs bcs they think voice impressionists = voice actors. the effect? ppl who don't know better actually thought they are the anime VAs. that, and how people aren't bothered to check before reposting/spreading those videos and caption it as "Toji VA goes to konbini so-and-so".......there's no way koyasu-san would do that omg....

Yeah, they were mocked and ridiculed around by those A.I image users and probably those A.I image sympathisers. AI has become so advanced that it manages to take jobs away from actual Voice Actors which is really unfortunate and sad. I've seen some video game companies/devs post listings or are looking for individuals with general knowledge and experience with AI to use in their games and it's just disappointing (I think the main reason for this is because companies want to invest less/don't want to continuously pay a living person). Oppertunities are being washed over by AI and it really sucks - especially the AI bots using the voice of voice actors. Just imagine having your voice being altered, replaced even, all without your consent.

Even then I felt that this was kind of an L thing to do given how it's basically stealing other people's work and a very cheap and scummy way to gain popularity on KZbin. Then again, this can apply to AI in general and the fact that people are happy seeing this happen to English VA's really says a lot about the partizanship of 2024.

This is an important issue, but a few things were a bit outdated: AI generated voices DO allow for individual input and performance. It’s not new necessarily, voice modulators have been around for years, but the ability to train your own specific voice modulator is new. The folks in voice acting who I think are the most at risk aren’t the original cast members, but the dub cast members. From the perspective of the studio, there’s a greater incentive to retain control over distributing a program overseas. We currently have more than decent voice translators, meaning the original VA voices could potentially be used in multiple language dubs overseas.

I never liked these. One of my first exposures to AI imitating seiyū was with a video uploaded on Twitter where someone tried to "dub" the Jotaro vs DIO fight with the original seiyū talking in English, and I cringed so hard I physically recoiled. Takehito Koyasu was quite literally the reason I even watched Jojo (and I'm still unfinished lol), his performance as DIO is so memorable it became what he's known for in the West, and since I'm already a big fan of him I was quite upset about his voice being used without permission to create these things. And the dub itself was horrible as well, the AI sapped all emotion to the voice performance, it was just embarrassing. Made me laugh at the person who uploaded the video. And for a while, whenever I listened to a song sung by Koyasu-san I ended up getting in my recommended those videos titled like "DIO sings [blank] (AI cover)" and I immediately clicked on "not interested" to not see them again. Miraculously it worked. I know it's cliche but Takehito Koyasu *is* my favorite seiyū and I have always been a fan of voice acting, and how much work it goes into portraying so many emotions with only one's voice. To make AI covers is not only to insult the seiyū in question, but also the whole artistry behind voice acting.

It's so sad... this is why I don't want to get into the AI trend. I know people mostly do this for fun for the anime and characters they like, but I still don't agree with this. It can potentially replace real seiyuu as AI gets more advanced and seiyuu themselves lose the right to their own voice. using AI to keep using the voice of the deceased VAs takes away their preciousness. their positions are irreplaceable but life goes on and that role will go to someone else who deserves the chance, not some soulless husks that may be able to produce similar voices. also imagine some evil people use your photo/video and voices after your death (just an example) to create something that harm others? maybe to scam or create videos of you committing crime? it's the same tool that creates AI covers that you find interesting. so the answer is, AI is wrong. before you indulge more of it, try to stay away.

Honestly, AI hurts every single real artist. Actors, voice actors, digital and traditional artists, singers, etc etc, every form of real art is harmed by AI. Art is such a human thing, it cannot be replicated by a machine that has no feelings and no soul. Machines and AI should be used to do actual work instead of humans, but never art. AI "art" will never be real art, no matter how much people claim it is. AI can be used for good, but the direction we're heading towards is NOT it. It's also super scary imo that it's getting so much better at replicating people's voice or making fake videos of people. Pictures could already be easily edited for a while, but videos and voice recordings were usually sufficient proof that something did or did not happen, until now. In a few years, it might just be completely impossible to tell if a video is fake or real. It's terrifying that people can just use others' faces, bodies or voices without their permission. Nothing good can come of this kind of technology. And practically all of AI "art" is just straight up stealing from real artists and using their work to create some soulless crap. If real art didn't exist, neither would any AI "art," which easily proves this point.
