Private Branch Exchange: A way for telephone lines to be shared by more than one person. Before PBX everybody needed their own direct connection to the central office of the service provider. IP PBX Server : Centrally the IP PBX runs on windows server. Communicates with: - SIP phones, (VOIP Handsets) - gateways - providers using SIP protocol. Internally IP PBX Communicates with SIP Phones (VOIP phones): - Software Based (install on a computer and use headset or usb phone) - Hardware Based (regular phones) Externally IP PBX Makes Calls to external Numbers This can be done via: 1) VOIP Gateways Digitize traffic from standard PSTN (public switched telephone network aka telephone line) Lines so the IPBX can handle the traffic and it can travel through the network. Basically VOIP Gateways make old telephones lines into something the IP PBX Server can understand. Always Reccomended 2) VOIP Providers Handle the digitizing of traffic on their end and send the calls to you via your internet link.

Great video. Thanks. Sir, I have an issue on how to configure my home cisco 2821 so that I can be able to call outside from my lan. The Router Go/1 is connected to the lan fa0/1. The G0/0 is connected to DSL service provider interface. How to connect the voice port to the DSL and configure it so that I could call out and receive calls from outside is the issue. Please help
