As a Gay Asian-American, this story fills me with both love and sadness. Love that LGBT+ people have always existed since the dawn of mankind. And sadness that so many, through religion and ignorance, try to erase us from history and even the present day, by denying us our birthright of choice, happiness, and the freedom to love whom we choose. And as an American, whose country just re-elected an ex-felon, pedophile and rapist for president, and whose previous administration worked very hard to turn back and deny LGBT+ rights our community fought so hard for, I am hopeful that once again in time our community can flourish and live openly with pride and dignity, just like it did in beautiful ancient China. Thank you, @AsianPride for representing our people and reminding us of our storied history. And take care wherever you are! 😘

Thank you so much for this! I had heard only of one case which gave way to the legend of the rabbit God but this vid gives us a better overview of the other documented gay relationships among the ancient Chinese.

I was surprised to find out that there was a deity of homosexual love in Chinese folklore. I like the fact that there is a deity like that. I even named my username after Tu'er Shen

@@rabbitgodofbl But he is not the deity of homosexual love in chinese folklore. That is more a thing of taiwanese culture today. The story everyone references is from Yuan Mei's collection and makes it clear that it was not considered something normal. Also, the moment the men in question, who was killed for being attracted to a man mind you, and the story does not reference female homosexuality and also states that people from Fujian who wanted underage boys, but not adult men, started adopting this deity. And that cult was not accepted either and was persecuted during the time of the Qing, a time that also persecuted any religious activities that had too much women, or sometimes any women, participating in it.

@@rabbitgodofbl Isn't it wonderful? It's twice an appeal to me cause I'm gay and love bunnies and squirrels. I hope there are squirrel deities somewhere in another shamanic tradition too:-)

@@inotaishu1 I think official religion is something, alternative sects another. Moreover, shamans were the ones who developed all the original energetic arts and herbal, medicinal knowledge so for me the Confuncian and values and even many aspects of philosophical Taoism are not my favorite. I'm more into the shamanic roots, the Wu whom I deem as true alchemists and occult scientists and whose knowledge Taoists have appropriated. I'm convinced that, as in modern times, there must have been many LGBTIQ Wu of both gender, we have always existed. It's just official records have tried to erase us from history!

I've heard of that story of the cut sleeve before. That story does sound romantic 🥰 Also happy to see that I comment on these videos. This wasn't an option before

Thank you. I had disabled comments before I did get a lot of homophobic comments from some random trolls. Now I’ve decided to not let those homophobes get to me so enabled the options.

@AsianPride Sorry that happened. Glad to see it doesn't bother you anymore 😁

you do know that Dong Xian is the villain of the story and that both are dead at the end, right? The story blames Dong for the collapse of the dynasty and makes no secret of saying that he was a bad guy.

@@inotaishu1 It may be so but it just shows that we have always existed and mainstream culture tried to erase us but I'm sure many have existed in ancient China even if just closeted in most periods.
