I'm learning, I don't know anything about cactus. I grow succulents, and I am an orchid rescuer. I see lots of cactus on the website I buy my succulents, Tia's succulent garden. My orchids come from big box stores when they are ready to toss them out. Enjoyed your video. I might just try a cactus. Thanks Liz, you made it look easy.

lovely video. I normally only use "rock" like mix to grow cacti, not a tiny piece of organic soil. it turns beautiful looks over the years just like its original habitat.

Just yesterday i lost my Arizona Rainbow cactus and wished you would show some cactus soil. And there was our succulent fairy godmother!! Thank you. I just noticed that you dont have any Adeniums in your collection. Here they bloom like crazy and have beautiful shapes. I wish i could gift you some. Thank you for the vdo and i just like your sense of humour.

I have two adeniums. Very difficult to grow here because of the frost. So far, I have kept them alive for about 4 years.

Thank you for the most interesting video. I have stopped putting larger grit pieces at the foot of the pot as when it came to repotting 2 years on, the roots had been tangled in the grit and most were lost in the repotting process. Since then I have read that two Botanists at Universities in the USA have stated that crocs should not be put at the bottom of pots as they can tangle roots, trap air and reduce draining.

Maybe depends on the plant and how advance the growth is. I find that most succulents will survive even if most of the roots are removed. Thanks for watching.

Hi Liz, the plant you called copiapoa cinerea is probably a gymnocalycium, absolutely not a copiapoa. Thank you from Italy for all your great videos 👍👍👏👏🌵🌷💐🤗
@steffahome65122 жыл бұрын
A gymnocalycium baldianum perhaps...
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK2 жыл бұрын
Not like my Baldianums. Possibly a Gymnocalicium species but different from Baldianum. This ones have velvety skin almost the same as copiapoa.

Hi Liz. Your unlabeled second cactus is similar to Gymnocalycium bruchii (it forms clumps too) but there are other similar species.

I think it might resemble the sulcorebutia langeri, also. The ‘spines’ look a little bit like caterpillars.

I’ve been watching you videos for about 6 mths you share some wonderful tips. You got me starting to love succulent & now Caucasus. Your soil mix I seen today you add stones to the soil? Your top dressing did you add granite ? I tried adding the tiny white rocks/ stones but prefer yours. Where can I buy then.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK2 жыл бұрын
I use decomposed Granite. They vary from different parts of the world but mineral content wise is almost the same benefits for the plants. There is one product called Maifan Stone available online. Thanks for watching Kathy and may you continue your love for these beautiful plants.

Liz could you possibly do a video on lilacina vs pollux. I can not tell which one I have and there isn't a lot of comparison information out there and you are so good at explaining things like differences in similar plants. Thanks 😊
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK2 жыл бұрын
They are very difficult to tell when they're young and also where they're grown. I find that Pollux are more grey tone with a square edge leaf shape and the lilacina(pink tones) with pointier leaves.
@Rp101012 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to respond. It's summer and I'm in California zone 9b. I have 3 that were labeled lilacina but they all look different!!! Lol . I'll never figure it out !! Thanks for the tips

Hi is air drying not needed when repotting my cactus? I am from a tropical country and just bought a new set of cactus.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK2 жыл бұрын
I always leave them to air dry for at least a couple of weeks them put them in moist soil and water after a month later.

How about from the Philippines?
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK2 жыл бұрын
Philippines is tropical. So best to put them in much grittier mix like scoria or Vulcanic rocks so they don't rot. If kept undercover, they will survive with a lot less watering. The perfect low maintenance plant.
