But Cedric, as a person, would not have made that choice in any universe. Maybe at a long shot, if you went back to early childhood and took away everything that made him the kind person he was... but that's not the story. Psychopaths can breed. Love isn't required for the act of conceiving a child. I just question whether or not Riddle was capable of it since his body wasn't exactly intact. And why would he plan for Delphini's care "in the event of his death"? He planned to live forever; that's sort of the basis of the whole freaking saga. He never factored death into his legend and therefore would have no reason to create an heir and no reason to provide for her after he was gone. JKR only pronounced this canon because she stood to either make another fortune or to infuriate most of the fandom. She chose the latter. It's nothing but fan fiction, written by a couple of muggles who wouldn't know the Wizarding World if they stumbled into Hogsmeade.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Belatrix conceiving and delivering a child would have had to happen after the battle of the ministry. If correct, there is no chance in hell Tom would have given her any thing remotely rewarding, much less bearing his child. At that point, forcing her to watch him with a different witch, just to torment her, would have made far more sense.

My point exactly. Him wanting an heir implies that he was expecting to be beaten by Harry which is way off. He thought he would live forever, so having an heir would be pointless. And it's unlikely for a woman to get pregnant after 1 try, it can happen, but it's unlikely. So this implies that they tried multiple times which just doesn't sound like Voldemort. He would have had to be really be determined to produce an heir which just doesn't sound right at all. Especially because he wasn't planning on dying.

I think the “why” section here is correct. Voldemort was clearly a man with a plan and as we can see through the hoarcruxes he had many, many back up plans. I could totally believe that he may have had multiple children with as many pure blood witches as possible since as Voldemort he is only the heir of slytherin and not a half blood as we can see through his outward appearance. I definitely agree with the part where JKR was simply trying to make more money off the Cursed Child as its way more likely she had nothing to do with it outside of creating Harry Potter. This kind of thing happens in all media regularly where one artist essentially steals from a previous work and tries to pass it off as their own but then gets caught so they have to pay royalties. JKR just beat out the legal part of it all and made her money from the start, as well she should have. It would be better to have said it’s an alternate universe though as many characters traits change in this story. Sorry this was so long.

Tom Riddle never had a girlfriend or any flings or trysts that we know of during his time as a student in Hogwarts and after. I always assumed he died a virgin because despite all his charm, power and intelligence (and teenage good looks), he had too much of a narcissistic complex to the point where he probably thought nobody was worthy enough to get into his pants. And even if he had any sexual relationship in his life, I imagine they would not have been pleasant for the people he got into bed with. Do you really think that Voldemort would allow a cowardly child like Draco to know about something so important? He never told his followers of Horcruxes or anything like that either. Delphini was likely his attempt at creating loyal lieutenants to serve underneath his worldwide government after he killed Harry. He obviously didn’t want competition, and didn’t love like a normal person. And most of his followers only served out of fear or insanity. It would be far more safe and logical to have followers who are loyal by blood. Voldemort likely knew that Bellatrix was obsessed enough with him to have his child without any fuss or much affection, and took advantage of it. He also may have used Bellatrix because he hated his own surname, and wanted a noble pure blood name to be used for any children. Bellatrix was a Black and a Lestrange. Narcissa and Lucius were clearly not truly loyal to Voldemort, and Voldemort didn’t trust them with such a big secret. After Voldemort and Bellatrix’s deaths, even if the Malfoys did figure it out, they likely wouldn’t want to keep the child because of the obvious tension with Voldemort, the heavy scrutiny and hatred of the Malfoys after the war which would get worse should Delphini be discovered with them, and also their disloyalty to Voldemort and his plans. However, I find it highly unlikely that they made the arrangements anyway, as they would have stake in stopping the Dark Lord’s revival and likely would’ve hid Delphini’s identity far away or killed her.

There's a couple reasons for how/why. Delphi's conception took place likely shortly after Dumledore's death, possibly why the two of them were "celebrating". To Bellatrix, having Voldemort's child would be the greatest of honors. Voldemort likely gave her a child as a reward for her services, and/or he saw the benefits of having a child, as both a loyal and powerful servant and as an alternate means of a kind of immortality, where even if he was somehow killed, his bloodline would live on through her.

My personal theory is that when he was revived he lost all connection to the Riddle family and was simply Voldemort the heir of Slytherin essentially making him “pure blood”. However, even if that isn’t the case, I still think he would want the bloodline of Slytherin around forever. There is so much argument for him never considering an heir himself as his ONLY goal was to live forever, but his goal was also to rule over everything. How could he do that alone? He would need people he could trust, family perhaps, to rule over certain areas in his exact vision with him ruling on high. It’s just so complicated to think about. Personally I think with having so many back plans as he did, a child or even more likely several children hidden away for the right time is not out of the realm of possibility.

Agreed, not to mention the fact that I HIGHLY doubt that he would be physically able to considering the state of the 'body' that he had when he returned. Not that Bella wouldn't have been willing mind you. It just doesn't make sense, not to mention from what I've been hearing about the book/play, the writers broke the 'don't betray your characters' rule of writing on MORE than one occasion. Not cool. If you like the book and the play...fine. I'm sure that it's an interesting 'what if' kind of read. However don't expect a flood of people to be willing to accept it as cannon to the source material.

To be honest, you don't need emotions like love to concieve a child. Voldemort could have just enjoyed the feeling of sex, as wrong as it sounds. He was a psychopath and undouptedly an aromantic, but you don't need love or romanticism to get carnal pleasure from an act and in the prossess you can get your partner pregnant. I was fine with Delphini, plenty of evil men have had children before and the idea of him having one just to have a backup plan did not surprise me in the slightest. My problem with the cursed child was more on other characters' personalities and reactions, like Cedric becoming a Death Eater because he got humiliated, he struck me as the type that would not care about that.

Why? Many women are having children in their early and late 40's now. As long as someone can menustrate and their uterus is working properly, a woman can still get pregnant. Menopause can come early or it can come late. Age is not relevant. I don't know why a woman would at that age would want to. But if they're capable and want to, why not?

Ive never understood the hang up on Bellatrix and Voldemort having a baby. She was obviously obsessed and in love with him. He doesn’t give a rats ass about her, but he sure does about his bloodline. She would be the most appealing candidate to continue it because of her status, devotion, and pure maliciousness. Makes sense to me 🤷🏻‍♀️. The time turners working differently in a Cursed Child is what hangs me up 😂. I did find it a fun kind of “what if” story though. I just cannot get my head around Voldy being a father. The books describe him as being barely human anymore, the way dark magic had transformed and effected him. Would he even still be able to er...perform? I had to fan fic my own head canon. I can see Bella using a time turner (as they're already over-used in Cursed Child, why not) and going back to when Voldy was a young man working for Borgin and Burkes. I can imagine a younger Voldy being seduced by an attractive, charming, older woman like Bella, taken by her devotion to him. He may not even know who she was or that she became pregnant. Then, future Voldy may even have memories of a few nghts of lust (not love) with a mysterious woman not realising it was Bellatrix. It may even have acted as confrmation of his power over others. He wouldn't associate pregnant Bella to back then (what, 30-40 years pior?), he might have thought it was either Rudolphous's or even another death eaters, as I doubt Bella was a faithful wife. Either that or Bella lied about who the father was and Delphi just grew up thinking she was the daughter of the dark lord. Just because she has a few similar charatcer traits, it doesn't mean she's Voldys daughter. I also think that Voldys own arrogance went so far as believing he wouldn't need an heir. HE was the sole heir of Slytherin and that thought would have kept him happy in the knowledge that he and ONLY he kept the blood of Slytherin alive and just another symbol of his own status and power. I will say this, some plot points aside, Cursed Child is visually stuning and spectacular. I enjoyed watching it. I'd hapily watchit again, given the chance.

My theory: I think Dumbledore finally got into Voldemort head about love being the most powerful form of magic or what Voldemort believes what Dumbledore meant. But (just like how he just only learn of part of the prophecy) he probably thought love was just the birds and the bees. He failed to realized that love was more that that. So Delphini was his the result of his experiment with love. The experiment was both a success-Bellatrix was pregnant and failure-Voldemort nowhere closer understanding the power of love.

TBTH the idea that Bellatrix and Voldemort had a consensual encounter resulting in Delphi is ridiculous. Firstly, Voldemort would never have considered that he could be killed, thus the idea of him needing a child to continue the bloodline would never have occurred to him. Secondly, though Bellatrix would have certainly consented if asked, see firstly. I find it far more likely that she would have been the instigator. Using a love potion, or more likely something that would inflame lust rather that love. Voldemort, being incapable of feeling love, would still have the biological imperative of sexual need. All that being said, and assuming it DID happen, neither parent had the capacity to love the child so the idea they would hide her to protect her from their notorious reputations is ludicrous.

Most likely you’re right in that they would have no way to actually care for this child but likely Delphi would be raised much like Draco who also wasn’t truly loved by his parents (as far as I can see anyways). Although it would serve Voldemort greatly to have the bloodline of slytherin spread through his pure blood witches granting him a new army for when his current one eventually parish while he continues to live forever could also backfire on him as many of his children may grow to resent him. I hate to be crude but Bellatrix would have let Voldemort have his way with her in front of not only her husband but on the Malfoy's dining table in front of all of the Death Eaters. If he truly thought that having a child was a backup plan to his Horcruxes then he would have put protection on Hufflepuff's cup and Ravenclaw's diadem other than the duplication spell and locking it in a Gringotts vault or just leaving it in the Room of Requirments. If Voldemort intended to live forever, why would he need an heir? My theories: 1. He intended to use Delphini as a new vessel, so he could have a new, younger body that could walk around in and not draw attention to himself. Perhaps he would only take control of her when it was necessary; remaining tucked away in a corner of her mind. 2. He planned to use her as another Horcrux, as the Ministry and the Order wouldn't (theoretically) harm an otherwise innocent child and, even if they locked her up somewhere, she (and Voldemort's soul fragment) would still be safe. 3. He wanted to raise her in his own teachings, indoctrinate her from birth with his beliefs, and train her to become his most fanatically loyal, skilled, ultimate Death Eater. Unlike the vast majority of his followers, she would never know a time before Voldemort, and would be brought up with the Dark Arts in a way that no one ever had before.

Voldemort had a kid as a backup plan? Um...his horcruxes were his backup plan. Voldemort loved no-one. He planned to live forever. He had no intention of sharing power with anyone. So how does him having a kid make any sense? The answer is that it doesn't. The central character of that...rubbish called The Cursed Child would never have existed. I mean the author made it cannon and I hate to say it but it's the creator that decides whether or not something is cannon, not the fans who didn't even create the franchise to begin with. So here's a more likely possibility, a theory for you to help put your mind at ease about it being cannon because YES ITS CANNON! While it's not a huge interest of mine, I have read several True Crime books that my brother exposed me to. So I know a few things about real world serial killers. So when Dumbledore started telling Harry about Voldemort's background, I recognized many traits of real serial killers in Voldemort as I read Half Blood Prince. Rowling clearly did her homework. In fact, the only difference I could see was, Voldemort was not a sexual predator, which all real serial killers are. I chalked this up to two things, Rowling wanting to keep things slightly child friendly, and Voldemort being incapable of love, and therefore probably asexual. The idea of Voldemort having a child is eye rolling. Especially since Bellatrix showed no signs of being pregnant during Harry and friends visit to Malfoy Manor. It would have been pretty obvious.

There are 3 main reasons as to why I cannot and will never view the cursed script as canon: 1. JK didn’t write it (this is an obvious one) 2. If it’s canon, then the original 7 books cannot be as it contradicts. Too many issues with the plot that go against former established canon and all characters are way ooc - like in most fanfics. 3. She never directly said it was canon. She said “should be considered canon” not “is canon”. There’s a big semantic difference.

I have a hard time seeing CC as canon because we see Bellatrix several times from the time she escapes to her death and in none of those plotlines is she pregnant. She is at the ministry in June of 1996, at Snape's house, at Dumbledore's death, the battle of the 7 Potters in July 97, and dies in June 1998. When would she have had time to give birth? I totally agree. She was also at Malloy Manor in late March of 1998 during which she tortured Hermione. I can't see that in the time between her escape from Azkaban and her death, that it is remotely possible for her to have conceived a child and gave birth in total secrecy. There is no long period of time in which she disappears to hide her pregnancy and we never see her with a pregnant belly. Furthermore, at the very least, the Malfoys would have known about it.

@@ashtonhaggitt216 Considering Harry used Snape's potions book to make a perfect living death, using Snape's own notes to do so, I don't think it'd be that outlandish that Snape earned the same reward. I see Riddle more likely to use his natural charm and charisma to have gotten the info out of Slughorn, rather than relying on a potion or some external means.

What i find really strange troughout entire HP universe is how concieving Voldermort by the use of love potion is being talked about like it is something that never happened before or that it doesnt happen. Love potions are not even that hard to get in HP universe, and there is no way that others wouldnt be using it aswell. There should be like thousands of evil children walking around by this point..

As Silly as it is, I always just assumed that maybe there was no plan, just Bella and Voldemort we're not careful enough and it just happens after a while, so they keep a baby. Voldemort couldn't kill someone who like him is a heir of Slytherin (he didn't kill Morfin) and Bella obviously would want to be the one witch that carrries the heir of her Lord.

People don't like the idea of Voldemort being father of a child, but if the story set Delphini the same way the Joker's child with Harley Quinn...like, Belatrix in fact had feelings for Voldemort and perhaps they could have shared a lust moment together but if Belatrix ended up pregnant she may have wanted to cover up her child from Voldemort's knowing and from any other witch or wizard to protect her. Maybe by just lying about who her true father was and claiming she was her husband's, not Voldemort's. Anyway I think the idea of Voldemort having a child is actually compelling but mishandled in this story.

The Cursed Child is awful, but the titular child is the part that makes the least sense. It makes no sense that Voldemort would never have a child. Since his goal is immortality, it makes no sense for Voldemort to produce an heir. The only thing a child would do, in his mind, would be to potentially usurp his power in the future.

While the lineage theory is interesting (though I would think if that was his interest, it would have been more to create a powerful bloodline of future followers, than as a back-up to perserve his lineage), I have a different theory why Voldemort would want an heir. I have mentioned this before but I do think that many fans don't think dark enough when it comes to Voldemort. For my theory, I first have to explain how I see Voldemort's view on existence. To me, it is clear that he is only interesting in the perservation of one thing: his mind. He doesn't care about the damage he does to his body and he certaintly didn't care for his soul, which he mutilated beyond human comprehension, yet as Dumbledore said: his soul might have been torn to pieces, his mind was as strong as it ever was. So, let us focus on this part: Did he really need his original soul or body? For his body, we know the answer, it has been destroyed once before so he definitely was willing to substitute it. As for his soul, I don't think so. If there was an alternative, he likely would have taken it, especially with the discovery of the destruction of the diary, he was made aware that his Horcruxes were in danger. Sure, he believed they couldn't get to them all but the doubt had crept in his mind and I think the fear of his end always lingered. But what if he discovered a ritual that could further his immortality and push the amount of possible Horcruxes even further? He might have mutilated his soul as far as he could but what if he could transplant his mind to a different soul? A healthy soul, yet undivided... Yes, I think this was his plan: I think he did find a ritual that would allow him to bind his mind, his conscious to the soul of another, erasing the other from existence but why would Voldemort care, he never cared before about others. The only catch for this ritual, just like his resurrection potion, is that required a blood relative. A descendant this time, his child. I believe that if Voldemort had survived the Battle of Hogwarts and there were enough Horcruxes left, he would have waited a bit to see how his daughter developped but once she showed magical abilities, we would start the transfer, grafting his mind over her soul, erasing her mind/existence in the process and prepare to continue this new cycle of immortality. Creating seven more Horcruxes and preparing to have another heir one day, in case he had to repeat the process. This way, he would have multiple sets of 7 Horcruxes, from different souls but all with his mind, nearing true immortality.

This is what I have always thought 🤷‍♂️ Doesn’t really matter if cursed child is canon or not, if it has to be considered canon because jk said so, then yeah there’s a lot in the story that would contradict the original stories, but not thinking of her as an heir, only thinking of her as a “vessel” is completely plausible I think.

He only started fearing for his fall when he realized Harry was hunting horcruxes. The diary was used as a weapon (to open the chamber of secret) He always knew that giving it to Lucius was not for protection but for using. Of course he get mad when he realized it had been destroyed but he firmly believed the other would keep him safe. "There comes a time when Voldemort will start fear for his life" "he will stop sending out his Snake on missions and keep it close to him for protection. Only then should you tell Harry the truth" That what Dumbledore said to Snape and that what happened.

I haven't seen Cursed Child, but I read the published script. I always imagined that Tom Riddle died a virgin. If he and Bellatrix had a child, here's how I imagine it happening: Bellatrix stole Voldemort's DNA somehow, maybe through fingernail clippings or shed skin, and used either Dark Magic or Muggle medical technology to impregnate herself. She hid the pregnancy from Voldy, who probably would've killed her if he found out; remember that Bella was an excellent Occlumens. Maybe she told Narcissa. Bella could've used an advanced version of the expansion charm to hide her pregnancy. Where she would've hidden the subsequent baby, I don't know.
