I was gonna say Toko as well, by far my favourite girl in the series. Super interesting character whose childhood trauma and bullying caused her to develop an alternate identity along with a lot of mental issues, she's absolutely hilarious both as herself and Genocider, she has one of the best arcs in the series, and her friendship with Komaru is amazing. Mikan is my second favourite for similar reasons (I like the mentally unstable ones)

It's not just free time. I mean sure that was one of the things taken away but there's still padding that's in the "main story" itself they cut out too. It also kinda took away from the experience. In my opinion, Danganronpa: The Animation was okay, but the story was moving way too fast. It also takes the fun out, which I feel like is what gives the game more of a hype feeling. I prefer the game more than the anime. Although, the Danganronpa 3 anime, was arguably one of the worsts I've seen. It's okay if others like it, but nothing made sense to me.

I'm glad someone like you talk about this anime adaptation. When I first watched the anime, all I feel is pure emptiness. It follows the original faithfully but it doesn't made me excited or even entertained. The anime is really missing the point of what made Danganronpa so impactful. I don't even like the anime English voice actors much. (The Japanese one is passable imo) The charcters' dialogue made me cringed so much especially Monokuma. I'd definitely prefer playing the game than the anime adaptation too. And if ppl don't play video games but wanted a story, I'd recommend them to go watch the cutscenes on KZbin.

I love danganronpa, but I don't think I'd be able to watch all that. As it was stated in the video, a lot of that would feel like filler because of all the character interactions between murders. I feel like it works better in the game than it would as an anime. Especially considering this would air between weeks. I can imagine how annoying it would be waiting for the next murder but have to wait through three weeks of "filler" episodes.

I feel as though the problem is with the lack of its characters being developed. The trials could have been pushed out to 1 to 3 episodes. I think the only reason the characters weren’t fleshed out is because the free time events is you choosing who to talk to.

I watched the anime with my sister, who made is better somehow. I didn’t know that it was bad according to the fandom. As I rushed through this franchise, I didn’t feel anything for these characters. I watched the DR3 anime and deemed it as “good” because I didn’t actually know as much as I thought I did. Now after being into this franchise for over 2 months(I joined recently yeah), after playing the games, I now understand how bad the anime is.

My general stance after having watched the anime after playing the game was that if it didn't wanna be *too* overly long, but also flesh the characters out more, it could've been somewhere between 20-26 episodes instead of 13. Sure you wouldn't get to know every single character as deeply as you would even with the added run time but you'd get a lot more with the ability to have scattered episodes of downtime. Hell, maybe even just let everyone get to know each other a little better right near the start before the killings kick in so you've got a better starting point for that. Or even embrace a more "ensemble cast" feel given we don't really need to be stuck with only Makoto's POV outside of the game.

I regret watching the Danganronpa anime instead of watching play throughs. Unpopular opinion: The anime voice acting and animation is pretty good. I like Monokuma's voice acting too. But the story is way fast. If the anime didn't exist then I wouldn't get into to this game. I would be forever uninterested in this game. The Danganronpa 3 anime were pretty good too. Also some explanation for the differences between Danganronpa V3 and Danganronpa 3 anime. Danganronpa 3 anime comes first. In Danganronpa V3, the V is a Roman number of 5. Which means the V3 is 53. You have to play or watch the final class trial in order to understand. I don't wanna spoil it.

the anime introduced me to dr, which I am grateful for, but only after getting into the games did I realize how poorly it did the story. Legitimately I blocked out the entirety of chapter 3. I saw people talking about it and I was incredibly confused because I did not at all remember kiyondo or Celeste’s execution, or even Celeste getting injured during the chapter. I had just completely forgot everything about it. Plus, for most of the chapters trials, I just completed forgot about the details of everything as well. The anime lets you get the main story, but it just falls flat with any sort of depth.

It wasn’t until I then watched the anime that I enjoyed the story the game was telling. For people like me, who didn’t have much interest in visual novels, the pace of the anime and its short runtime make it a good way to get into the series, and promoted me to get into the games further.

i’ve watched the anime and seen some gameplay (up until chapter 3) and tbh, i quite liked the anime. i feel like leon’s voice actor did a great job during the trial, and actually sounded like he was crying. celeste’s voice actor also did a great job, albeit less emotional due to her character. but i do prefer the cast in the game. as much as i like mondo, his voice in the anime was a bit grating. but, i can understand why someone would prefer the game. i haven’t seen all of it, so i can’t even disagree lmao.

To this day a lot of people still recommend the DR anime when people ask what this is. I mean, it's possible to sometimes watch the anime for free, instead of paying $15-20 for the game... But that's just the easy way to go into it, and the people recommending it don't even realize they're turning some people away from the franchise if they actually do end up watching it. There isn't even a DR2 anime, so at that point they'd have to buy/watch that game anyways. Or maybe at that point they wouldn't even find DR to be that interesting

You know after i finshed playing Danganronpa v3, i have to say that the english dub of the Danganronpa games is (in my opinion) by far one of the best english dubs ever created alongside Persona, Devil May Cry, Nier: Automata and of course Metal Gear (And yeah it's good don't start the sub vs dub thingy Ok?) then after that i decided to watch Danganronpa the animation And Danganronpa 3 and i decided to watch the dub first and BOY OH BOY WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN??? First of all let's talk about the voice acting, in Danganronpa 1 the only character who have the same voice actor is Makoto and why is that? The big problem is that the characters feel like a complete different person, You see characters ARE their voices if you change the voice the character is not the same, I mean if you listened to byakuya he looks like and acts like byakuya but that's not my byakuya and the reason is because of the voice acting and the performance is different and it's not just that the voice direction is also bad if listened to Makoto's voice it's much more high pitched comparing to the games where he sounds kind of deeper, another thing is the script writing, You see the english dub of the danganronpa games changes stuff from the Japanese version such as changing titles (For example changing Danganronpa: School of hope and high school student of despair to Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc) super High school level to ultimates, changing Genocider Sho to Genocide Jack (Which is a reference to an actual serial killer named Jack the ripper, it happens a lot in games where they change name like Dr. Eggman renamed to Dr. Robotnik from Sonic) and changing sex jokes while it's still a sex joke (Like for example after toko saves Komaru in UDG she say: Komaru Naegi more like CUMaru Naegi?) or teruteru strange accent in the first trial or celeste strange accent or Junko's British accent when she switch to her queen personality and other stuff, the problem is that the anime is dubbed by Funimation instead of NIS America (The company who dubbed the english of Danganronpa games) which is why the dub keeps the same stuff from the Japanese version, I really whish if the Anime gets a Redub except this time it's by NIS America with the same voice actors same voice director and the same english script writer. (Oh and sorry for bad english)

Byakuya, Kyoko and Sayaka are the only characters who's voices I like better in the Anime than the games, though the first 2 I don't consider bad. Makoto sounds like he's about to cry whenever he refutes an argument in the Anime. Genocide Jack at least has the same energy, even if I still like her game voice better.

A lot of this stems from the shift in medium that the creators didn’t account for like you said. I don’t think there was ever a way to adapt the game to an anime without completely rewriting the bulk of it, only staying faithful to the barebones stuff like the death order. I even think changing the way the mysteries were constructed, the role the trials play and the way the characters function had to have been different if you ever wanted to make a compelling tv show.

In Tigger Happy Havoc? Kyoko Kirigiri. Then again, that's also my bias for detective characters talking. I think the only ways you could've saved this is to one, Makita it perhaps 24 episodes instead of 12 so you can actually devote time to character interaction and bonding before another character is killed or executed and two, actually go a different route than the game maybe. Maybe go the route of after the demo where Hagakure is the first victim and go from that point. Would've meant even the people who played the game would have a reason to watch.

I played the fan translation about 3 months before the anime aired. xD It was comparable with the actual release in quality. They do some parts better and some parts worse. The official release had better class trials while the fan translation had a lot of good story parts translated better. At the time I was sure it was going to be another series just completely ignored to the west. Took them about a decade to bring it to the west. xD

My opinion is that danganronpa: the animation is decent although the executions seem like putting shaders on the game's version. It also sometimes a bit different from the game. But it's also handy for the game whenever you play the class trials.

Spoilers (Obviously) I pretty much agree with you. The animation itself was actually really good and as much as people didn't like the English dub of the anime, I thought the voice actors did pretty good. I mean, Leon sounds way too old, and Austin Tindle doesn't quite match Taka for me, but Josh Grelle as Byakuya was pretty good, Lindsay Seidel did really good as Celeste, and Monica Rial was better as Sayaka and fit the character more than the original va imo. Obviously, the anime couldn't get all the free time events in, and it would be hard to do that naturally, but I think that if the animation was maybe 20 episodes longer, it would have been pretty good. The way I view the animation is, because the game is so long, after I played it once, I just watched the animation if I want to go back into it, as I did find some enjoyment in it, and if I already know these characters from the game, the issue with the characters in the anime not being developed enough is null and void. I mean even if I see him for only a few episodes which is the equivalent of about 2 hours, I will still feel the deaths of Chihiro and Mondo. However, I am glad they didn't adapt DGR 2, because of the same reasons the animation failed. On the flip side, I'm glad DGR 3 was anime-only, because I agree with the creators in saying it wouldn't work as a game. Also, again, the animation was amazing Overall, I think Danganronpa could have worked really well as an anime, but DGR: The Animation was a failure. Well, at least it gave some good publicity to the game. Also, it did give us the masterpiece that is Danganronpa Abridged, just saying

The anime was horrible, sure, however, the most tolerable portion was Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak Academy. Sure, we had that *concerning* episode, but honestly, it was nice seeing the characters from DRV2 bonding with each other without all the murder (until Chiaki died).

I have to wonder if the Animation for Trigger Happy Havoc would’ve gone over better if it adapted the demo of the game where Hiro’s Murdered instead. That way it could show off the concept of the game without spoiling the actual events/deaths.

I still think it's stupid how the only reason Sayaka and Leon died first is because the animators were sick of drawing them the most in promo art. From what I know about the Anime exclusive parts, it only furthers the idea that Hagakure was supposed to be killed off early. Sorry to any of his fans, but he's one of my most hated characters in the whole series. He's not funny, he's almost never helpful during trials, and often wastes time.

I'm surprised the voice cast changes survived your video. Specifically Monokuma. Even though it's not the popular opinion, I prefer dubs (when they're done well). This was one where the english voice cast for the game was so incredible that sound alikes would have been preferred if the originals couldn't be used. In this case there's a menace to the NY/NJ "I'm walkin heeere" style that's interesting in its own right, but it's so wildly different that it's jarring. Add in the change of the laugh from Puhuhu to Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk, while more fitting to the performance change, just felt wrong. I know I'm harping on a somewhat small thing but it feels analogous to the larger heart that was missing from the show. I played the games, but my sig O hasn't. She has enjoyed them through Game Grumps' playthrough though. When 2 is finally done in a couple weeks we'll be watching 3 for the first time each. I've heard so much bad that I'm terrified it will ruin the story, but I'm so damned invested in the remnants that I need to know what happens. Not having to pace to a game gives me hope that some of the issues of this adaptation will be avoided, and the clips I have seen look high quality. Ahhh...well, guess I just have to binge some more of your channel while I wait!

I still like it i watched this series maybe 2016 but in 2019 some youtuber played Danganronpa the game then i realized there's a game. Now i like the series even more. I didn't hate the series not one bit, yeah maybe the people who played the game will hate this because it's fast phase but it doesn't matter if the plot is good i love all of the characters here. Overall still a good animation

The answer for your question is easy: Sakura was the best girl. After watching the anime, I was so shocked that people had their favorite characters. I only got it after playing the game. Anime didn't give enough time to characters and made all of it unsatisfying. Not talking about the fact that they changed a few things. Like, why? It's really good that SDR2 wasn't adapted into anime. It would be much more painful than the adaptation of the first game. Plus, it wouldn't make much sense as the game is full of hints to the environment the characters are in - the TV adaptation wouldn't make it right.

I suggest when nexttime making danganronpa anime Each episode consist of hours because we wanna tell the main story of killing game what really happened. daily life& deadly life combining into one episode in order to lessen the episodes. And our favorite part of the game class trial should be almost hours depends on their discussions and have a formal way of starting the trial just like in video games. 13 or 14 episodes could fit the anime unless if they make the episodes longer than hour. I just hope they will remake danganronpa 1, and making the 2 and v3 if ever. Hope this will help.

The way I got into Danganronpa was by someone recommending me the anime. I really liked it, but when I learned it was part of a game series, I figured I would just skip over THH because I kinda thought the anime was lacking character development and therefore thought the game would be kinda boring(which ultimately led to me missing out and not really connecting with it the way I connected with DR2 and DRV3)

so i watch danganronpa the anime in 2019 and i thought it was good but nothing spectacular, i did think it was going a bit too fast tho and i kinda just forgot about danganronpa for a while until august when i decided to play the games and my god the anime is so bad compared to the games. its good on its own but the games are just so much better and so much more worth your time

Well, there weren't really a Season 2 or 3 at all. I think you're referring to the two "sides" of Danganronpa 3, which was its own original story, to be watched after playing the original game and Danganronpa 2, as well as the spinoff Ultra Despair Girls. It was a very odd choice in my opinion to split them off that way to be honest, and I wasn't very satisfied with the way they were handled. The first works well enough for a newcomer, but I do think it waters down a lot of the actual source material's charm.

The dub was done at the exact same time as the first game's localization in a different part of the country. Bryce was already doing work for both studios at the time, which is why he's there, but all of the different actors/terminology are because the dubs were basically independently produced without the other being done for reference.

It's usually just an issue of availability (location) or union project status. For DRTA, since it was done at the same time as the first game's dub, they had no real awareness of each other's casts. For DR3's dub, I assume it was a mixed bag between consistency with their first Danganronpa anime dub and availability/union status.

I see the many flaws of the anime,however I'm forever grateful towards it,since I actually watched the anime first by recommendation of a friend. And so I went down a rabbit hole of a franchise I otherwise would've never known about! So I suppose despite its flaws,the anime successfully did what it was meant to do,another way of getting introduced to the games

Thats why you should watch first the anime and then the manga(in this case play the game). Of course its always nicer if they take some time to develope the story but money is a key point. Sometimes they dont have really a choice.

Thank god you didnt mean danganronpa 3(anime) cause loved that and would've cried if it was actually bad and im the only one who liked it. But yeah, i hated the dr anime due to how unfullfilling it feels. Its like when they tried to make corpse party an anime, let alone a whole ass movie, it was a mess with plot holes. The whole apeal of those games is the characters and how invested you get into them as you *slowly* lose them one by one by two. It just doesnt match fast paced anime style they were trying to do

It's pretty bad, yeah. But for different reasons. Mostly that it takes a lot of the potential the prior games had and really botches a attempted "conclusion" that sucks a lot of the intrigue and personality out of what we'd already been told. Basically it showed us some events that we might have had fun imagining, but did them so poorly that they became boring.

I think you should give it a try. Watch them in the board cast order - ep 1 of Future , shift to ep 1 of Despair, then back to next in Future and so on for the full experience. There are some missed opportunities and conclusion could be better yes, but I was happy to see the characters getting new content. Despair arc actually gives most answers to previous mysteries and happenings leading up to the start of DR 1 and 2.

To a casual lens, probably not. I mean, it's a decent enough watch on its own. What really suffers the most though is just the overall pacing and character depth. I imagine somebody watching DR the anime without knowing anything about the game wouldn't be able to gather as much about the characters or why they're actually compelling from it, simply because by necessity it basically skips all of their actual development/nuances. It sacrifices character for exclusively story, in other words, which makes it a pretty average anime in isolation, but makes it feel a bit empty and _especially_ empty compared to its source material.
