I'm ok for about two hours on any saddle. But 3 to 4 hour cross country races are brutal. Only ones that don't hurt are the wider gel saddles. It's ridiculous how wide and heavy it is.

This video was VERY helpful. (I have loved Ergon's grips FYI on all my bikes) I have been in Saddle-Hell for sometime and realize I have probably been sitting too far back on my saddles. This video taught me about Ergon's R&D, but also about where my sit bones belong on the saddle which is something no one else on planet earth seems to explain clearly. Thanks GBMN Tech and Ergon!

A good fitting saddle is very important! A few years ago my....family jewels and the part above always gone numb when I rode for 2 hours or more. 😅 I didn’t knew what that meant and thought there was something wrong with my body.🤷🏼♂️ But now I know that this is the first sign you’re riding the wrong saddle or riding it in the wrong position.

I did my PhD in Robotics and this reminds me of all the similar testing we did for Robotic Ankles for research (mostly inside the socket for amputees). Pressure pads (like the one they used on the saddle for Doddy) are very flexible and fairly accurate, so you can use it on any numbers of surfaces. Do they use the same methodology for their grips as well (pressure mapping)? Also, I REALLY want to know where the Product Designer got that duck shirt; looks like a very high-quality shirt and love the logo!

I realised recently, that times has changed to the point, it's most often difficult to find a RELIABLE saddle that is comfortable, so once you fall in love with it, it won't appear that you have a quarterly-subscription-saddle. This video makes me think I should increase the budget even more, but it's soooo hard when you've experienced so many without finding the right one. And most of them are not available for testing. Although there are return policies in EU-unpack carefully, unlock zip-ties, stick electrical tape onto seatpost/dropper head so it won't scuff the rails and you can make a 50km road test so at least you know if it's not terrible right from the start. But few at once, pick best, return the rest with no trace. That is what bikers are forced to do....sad

After the bike fitting and new Ergon product on my bike I now have worse knee pain, and I have developed wrist pain. The sadle is the most uncomfortable saddle I have ever used.

I don’t suffer with pressure issues too much but chaffing is a huge issue for me, (in the gouch area, sorry I don’t know the anatomical description lol) some shorts make it worse than others but I haven’t found a solution yet. I’ve tried different shorts and liners of all price ranges and fits, going to try chamois cream next. It means I really struggle to ride often as I have to give my skin time to recover or it ends up a real mess down there.

Excellent and very informative. But how do you find the right saddle? I mean, a cheap saddle starts at around 30 quid, and it's just upward from there for anything decent. And given that a saddle can seem fine for the first few hours before problems start to reveal themselves, so just sitting on a few different bikes in the shop won't prove much, doesn't this mean we either take a gamble and stick with the result, or spend all our money on replacement saddles until we eventually find one that's right?
@Braench5 жыл бұрын
Lots of shops offer you to Test a saddle for a few days, so if it doesnt fit and its still in perfect condition they will take it back and give you another one to try until youre happy.

Dr. Steven Schrader with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH): “When you sit on a bike the pressure on the perineum increases sevenfold. Riders using a classic saddle place 1/4 of their body weight on the perineum. The amount of oxygen reaching the *** typically falls 70% to 80% in 3 minutes. A guy can have his oxygen levels drop 100% but he doesn’t know it. After half an hour he goes numb. Saddles with splits or holes may make matters worse because they have smaller surface areas, and hence the rider’s weight presses harder on less saddle. The arteries in the perineum run laterally and therefore they come under more pressure when they come into contact with the cutouts’ edges. It is no longer a question of whether or not traditional bike saddles causes ED, but what are you going to do about it?” @t @t

Ergon grips sadly sucks all becaus they havnt metal on the outside. One bike drop and the grip stays damaged and ugly forever. I realy cant see how you can build such a grip becaus you dont even need to drop, just dont use a stand on your bike (becaus its freaking ugly and heavy), lay the bike down on gravel and its over with the grips...

Every saddle company has many shapes and widths to suit different riders. Everyone has different width Ischial Tuberosity/ "Sit Bones" and also contact the saddle in a different angle/ place. This is why it's important to find a saddle that fits you and your bike set up.
