I am so glad you got Gideon evaluated. I am also a mom of a dyslexic and dyslexic tutor. Speech is also another possible indicator of dyslexia. Gideon is at a good age to start remediating dyslexia and you caught it early. That’s great! Enjoy those babies, they are adorable!

Dont accept that. Cast it out in Jesus name. If its a generational curse...break that from family. Jesus said we can do same as him in John 14:12-14

I wish I knew you would get this message, but there are lamps for little kids that change color (from red to green) based on the sleeping schedule you set. My rules are that green means they can wake up and leave their room to play. I use the lamp for nap time/quiet time too, so it’s red for one hour every afternoon before the green light automatically activates. You set the times and when it’s red, my rule is the children need to be doing a quiet independent activity in their room if they don’t feel like napping/sleeping. My kids love it because they independently know when they can leave their room in the morning, quiet time isn’t interrupted by questions about when it will be over, and it completely changed their sleeping habits too! I think the self-sufficiency actually helps them sleep longer because their bodies adjust to the red/green light system. A little play with it to make it fun, some praise when they follow it, and it’ll be a household staple in no time!

As a retired elementary teacher, you are correct about dyslexia, and I’m so happy that you have caught this now. There are so many strategies that can be used. Every child learns differently, and that’s ok.
@mygirldarby9 ай бұрын
That's one issue with homeschooling. Joy doesnt have the abilities to teach a child with a learning difference like dyslexia. Thankfully they're doing the right thing, but I think of the many young moms with only a GED who are the teacher for their kids who don't identify learning issues.

@mygirldarby, my cousin, has a daughter with dyslexia. She attends public school. She was not diagnosed with it until she entered middle school, and the teachers realized she couldn't read. How did she go through all her grade school years surrounded by teachers with "abilities" and not one of them helped her? Did the middle school help her with this? No, her mom paid 100s of dollars a month to take her to a program at Children's Hospital every Wednesday morning. That is how she learned to read. You know what the public school did? They turned in my cousin for truancy because her daughter missed every Wednesday morning of school. They knew where she was at. Had a written and emailed note from Children's Hospital and yet still turned her in. This is NOT an isolated incident. The national average reading proficiency in public schools is 46%. That means less than half of kids can read at grade level. The average American (including adults) reads at a 7th grade level. Only 5% of kids are homeschooled. So what are all these teachers with abilities doing? Why is there such low reading proficiency in America? My homeschooled daughter has dyslexia. You know what made her different than my cousins daughter? I was teaching her on an individual basis and realized she needed help. I got her that help in the form of tutors and special programs designed for her. I realized this at 5, not in middle school. She is now entering 9th grade with a 9th grade reading level. Above the average of the majority of Americans.

Taking iron and or B 12 will help you immensley. A soothing night time cup of hot tea with honey & lemon or clove (i dont do clove lol) or cinammon is soothing. As a sixty year old with severe dyslexia, I still struggle with new concepts. I have coached dyslexic kids in basketball and baseball, and when a new skill clicks in their brains, it's a huge milestone. I love seeing the kids' faces when they understand something. Early intervention is definitely needed, and I just know Gideon will thrive, and he will read in no time at all.

Im retired from Early childhood intervention, (things have changed a lot since I first started, but there are AMAZING programs like the one you have found to help Gideon) my heart breaks for the many children that grew up and are growing up who were DRASTICALLY misunderstood on the best way they learn. Joy & Austin you already know how your children learn best, SOO SOO PROUD of YOU!! Gideon will be reading before you know it!! You're wise to keep fluids on your daily check list, for you & littles, this heat can depleat you before you realize it. My biggest survival tool as a mom of 3 littles was routine. It was great for the kids, and great for me. Yes, we had days where special things were happening, and the routines were blown out of the water, but for the most part they had strict nap and bedtime schedules. It worked great, and melded seamlessly into school schedules as they got older🙂
