The most memorable artwork not only has the ability to create a visual experience for the viewer, but an emotional experience that captures their imaginations as well. In this video, Bobby talks about how to create an emotional impact with your viewers through your art, and the importance of knowing the fundamentals to be able to convey your ideas properly.

Takeaway: "You need fundamentals to be able to convey your ideas properly." ^ That sentence is like Einsteins' E=mc². A super-condensed, and easy-to-understand version of incredibly vast knowledge base. It's like studying in practice for 10 years, to be able to finish work in 10 minutes. Brilliant. Thank you!

There is a comic artist who is wildly famous in italy, her name is fumettibrutti (literally means "bad looking comics) her drawings are bad looking but that's what allows her to focus on the meaning of them and actually make them more effective! Her audience understands this and she's very loved for what she does
@BobbyChiu
@BobbyChiu 3 жыл бұрын
That's very interesting!! It's totally understandable that people would value the meaning of the comics over the artwork itself. Thanks for sharing that!! :) ~S

@@metalmaster4686 she does activism with her work and her themes are very relevant and loved. There's obviously demand for her work so that means it has worth and it works in that format. Sure the art style is bad but it's not the point of her work, on the contrary it scandalizes people which attracts even more attention to her work. She has already published a few comics that are sold in italy's most relevant libraries, those sure take more than a minute to make! As Bobby's video pointed out, successful art is one that makes you feel something, technical precision comes after. Her example is extreme, not everyone will be able to make something like that work, but it was especially relevant to the theme of this video so that's why i shared it

When you realize this version of creating is a thing, it fundamentally changes how you go about making something. You suddenly realize how great creatives, in any of the major disciplines, do it. If I can say one thing to any young creative, in any field, UNDERSTAND THIS CONCEPT!!!!!! I've been a professional animator/concept artist/3D model, and it might surprise most people, but I've never really been proud of anything that I've made, and I almost quit. But, Once I figured this out, I have so much fun making again. It's all that I want to do. Stop trying make things "Good", and make things that make us feel.

This is so helpful and so hugely important, and despite drawing most of my life, all 44+ years of it, I routinely fail at trying to make that connection to the viewer. It has honestly only become obvious to me within the last year that this is something I should focus on more.

I think that your point and advice has a great value when you think about becoming a professional. However, history had some of the most emotional and great artists paint without an audience to impress or a prospect of future selling in their mind. I think part of the connection it relies on the themes you have the "urge" to paint ( it feels a lot more when you have a sincere emotion behind it) and how well you wish to treat that theme (fundamentals are required, but also realism isn't always the only right style, there can be many ways, like the "ugly" medieval art style or the "flat" art style of Egypt and Asian cultures). I think that these two thoughts can help a lot of artists even before they choose to become a professional, bc art also lived in those that never sold anything. Maybe your point flew over my head (sorry if it did) but i really felt like dropping my two cents on this difficult and eternal topic. :)

Your video hits the nail on the head again. The funny thing is that I have no problem studying the fundamentals and implementing them in my artworks. However, I could never quite convey the right emotions/ideas through my art pieces. I find it so hard to do for some reason. I think it's partially bc of my academic background and my lowkey personality lol. I would love it if anyone could give me some advice in that aspect. How could I connect with my audience and create that meaningful emotional connection? Any tips on how I could improve in that aspect?

Would you ever talk about art with aphantasia? It is the lack of a minds eye. Hearing you speak to someone with aphantasia would be really helpful for myself and other artists who struggle with the same thing. It can get really discouraging to hear people talk about seeing an image before they paint it because we can’t, so I think it would be really inspiring if a spotlight was put on a successful artist in the industry who creates without a minds eye.
@BobbyChiu
@BobbyChiu 3 жыл бұрын
That would be very interesting to hear that perspective. I’ll do some research but do you happen to know of any?
@m_ms39
@m_ms39 3 жыл бұрын
@@BobbyChiu thanks for considering it :) I know Irshad Karim from drawabox has aphantasia from a video he did with proko. Glen Keane has it and I believe Brian Froud as well. The problem is that I think a lot of people don’t realise they have no minds eye or don’t talk about their creative process so it’s hard to identify who works that way.
