Hello Doc Snipes. Can you suggests some counselors/therapists in SanAntonio, TX area, for a young man dealing with some emotional issues due being abandoned by mother when he was little?
@DocSnipesАй бұрын
Thank you for reaching out. While I’m unable to provide specific recommendations for counselors or therapists, a great resource to find support is the Psychology Today Find a Therapist directory. It allows you to search for professionals by treatment specialties, so you can find someone who is experienced in helping with issues related to abandonment and emotional challenges. I hope this helps, and I’m wishing the best for him on his healing journey.

Childhood truma and adolescent trauma from family mainly neglecting me and abundant at adulthood can you tell me the therapy , really I need help
@DocSnipes2 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing that with me. I’m really sorry to hear about the trauma you’ve experienced-it can have a profound impact, especially when it involves neglect and abandonment. Dealing with childhood and adolescent trauma, especially from family neglect, can be challenging, but there are several effective therapies that can help you heal and improve your well-being in adulthood. Here are some therapies that have been found to be effective: 1. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) TF-CBT is a structured, short-term treatment model that effectively improves a range of trauma-related outcomes in children and adolescents. It can also be adapted for adults. This therapy involves: Psychoeducation: Providing information about trauma and its effects. Relaxation Skills: Teaching techniques to manage stress and anxiety. Affective Expression and Regulation: Helping individuals identify and express their emotions. Cognitive Coping: Differentiating between thoughts and feelings and understanding how they influence behavior. Trauma Narrative: Gradually exposing individuals to memories of the trauma in a safe environment to reduce distress. Involvement of Caregivers: Engaging supportive caregivers in the treatment process. 2. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) EMDR is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress resulting from disturbing life experiences. It involves: Processing Traumatic Memories: Using bilateral stimulation (e.g., eye movements) to help reprocess traumatic memories. Reducing Emotional Distress: Aiming to reduce the emotional impact of traumatic memories and improve emotional regulation. 3. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) CBT is a widely used therapy that helps individuals understand the thoughts and feelings that influence behaviors. It is effective for: Addressing Negative Thought Patterns: Identifying and challenging negative thoughts related to trauma. Developing Coping Strategies: Learning practical skills to manage stress and anxiety. Improving Emotional Regulation: Enhancing the ability to manage and respond to emotional experiences. 4. Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) MBCT combines cognitive therapy with mindfulness strategies to help individuals manage their thoughts and emotions. It is particularly effective for: Reducing Symptoms of PTSD: Helping individuals stay present and reduce the impact of traumatic memories. Improving Emotional Well-being: Enhancing self-awareness and emotional regulation. 5. Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) CFT aims to help individuals develop self-compassion and reduce self-criticism. It involves: Understanding Emotional Responses: Exploring gut reactions and identifying protective learned behaviors. Developing Self-Compassion: Encouraging a compassionate understanding of oneself and one's experiences. It's important to find a therapist who is experienced in trauma-informed care and can tailor the treatment to your specific needs. Healing from trauma is a journey, and these therapies can provide you with the tools and support you need to navigate it. Thank you for making the point that this can happen from bad relationships as an adult and not only from childhood trauma. I come from a stable family but have had a string of abusive relationships and bullying from peers which caused my trauma. I tend to feel like my trauma is not justified because my parents never abused/neglected me.
@DocSnipesАй бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience. It’s so important to recognize that trauma can absolutely develop from difficult relationships in adulthood, not just from childhood experiences. The fact that you come from a stable family does not diminish or invalidate the pain and harm caused by abusive relationships or bullying. Trauma is about how deeply an event or series of events impact your emotional and psychological well-being, and those experiences are just as valid and deserving of attention, no matter when or how they happen. It’s common for people to feel like their trauma isn’t justified if they didn’t experience abuse or neglect in childhood, but your pain is real, and it matters. Relationships and peer interactions as an adult can have profound effects on our self-esteem, sense of safety, and emotional health. Healing from trauma is about acknowledging and processing what you’ve been through, no matter the source. Thank you for sharing your story-it's a reminder that everyone's journey is unique, and all forms of trauma are valid. You deserve support and compassion as you heal from your experiences.
