You are exactly right, DSA's tactical guns are cool but there's nothing like a classic. I love the history and pride that comes with a classic FAL it was a gun that was revolutionary at the time chambered in an absolutely perfect round in my opinion. Just wish it didn't cost a buck a shot nowadays lol. Great video and keep up the good work. You're the only one who does in-depth coverage on FALs. I look forward to seeing more and cannot wait until you get a r1, hopefully a Rhodesian. I really would like to see your take on a baby poop camo FN FAL.

You are right on the money on the serials. The highest serial I have is a #31,xxx stamped Cuban lower. Those have to be original FN flash hiders. I wish dsa would use the correct bho and carry handle though. They also had non rotating rear sling swivels. First issue had wooden then green polymer non bipod cut handguards. These came with FN / stg58 style carry handles. Good info Misha!
@misha56702 ай бұрын
Thanks for confirming the serial range, and i suspected an STG style CH would be correct. The Cuban i saw in the past had the 'green' tinte NBC forearm too. I have always liked that look personally.

I had an old Century International Arms FAL, marked."CIA" ,I cantt remember if it was inch or metric. It was a great gun. So sorry i traded it for another gun when i didnt have the cash. Real good program, Misha.

The cost factor you mention is important on a $500 gun, on these the cost of being faithful copies is minimal compared to the gun price.

Mentioning guns in Cuba, I have a VZ52 said to have been at bay of pigs, brought back by a marine. No idea if true but I sure wish we'd get friendly with Cuba and import some surplus from down that way.
@misha56702 ай бұрын
Probably brought back by a Marine serving in Grenada? Quite a few VZ52 & VZ52/57 trophy rifles came back from that little conflict. Yes, many started off as Cuban before being passed around to various Commie groups in South America.

I love this video my dad had one in the early 90s it was all wood heavy and it kicked like a mule but I was young but the thing that got me was the carry handle his was before the Clinton ban though 😂
@misha56702 ай бұрын
If it was before the Clinton Ban (AWB in 1994), I would guess it was either an Israeli SBL FAL or maybe an early import L1A1 SLR kit build? Of course there are other possibilities but for the early '90s, those would seem the most likely?

@brinsonharris98162 ай бұрын
Those handguards do look like the L1A1s. The only change I’d make is a black polymer stock like my old 50.00 had. So basically I’d have metric L1A1. Metric mags are pricey but they’re out there and worth it. Wouldn’t use a polymer mag on that rifle, though. I’d pay the $ for good steel spares. Edit: I made the comment about the handguard late in the video-has the L1A1 two larger vent holes and no bipod grooves. Earlier it had the metric FAL 3 vent holes & bipod grooves. Just looked at DSA’s website and they show the latter. How’d ya get the L1A1 style? Didn’t see them on DSA’s website. Seriously considering one. $2K is not bad considering what you get.
@misha56702 ай бұрын
The friend recording the video for me that day found those handguards in his parts room, so i figured I'd put them on to give an idea what this model would look like with NBCs. BTW, if you like poly stocks, checkout DSA's Bolivian 'Cold Warrior' model maybe? The Cuban model does ship with a 20 rd steel mag, not a polymer one. Also DSA has NOS FNH mags. Cost is around $50.

I wouldn't say bad, just suffering heavily from forbidden fruit syndrome, they seem generally very mild without aggressive or pointed flavor, if your into that, then im sure they are great calls, if you into denser tastes not so much, especially for the effort required to get them
