This video has been sped up, if only these systems were this fast. Looking at the space taken up by the shuttles, the only benefit over conventional multi-deck parking is the slightly tighter sideways stacking, and a marginal saving on floor height. Unfortunately car lifts and shuttles are this technology's Achilles heel, they only transport one car at a time. It can take >3 minutes between the time a car leaves the exit enclosure and the next car is brought down: this excludes time taken to enter the correct info on the keypad, store one's shopping, retrieving a rear car from a tandem bay (the car closest to the aisle must first be removed and stored elsewhere), new arrivals correctly positioning their car in the entrance enclosure etc. Clearing a 60-car system can take >3 hours if using one car lift, staff finishing work at 5PM don't want to wait until 8PM before finally driving out. Alternative technology is available, yet solution providers cling to old one-car-at-a-time systems.

What happens if multiple people all come out at once? Happens all the time in my valet job. Think 10-15 people times 2 minutes, and you easily wait 20-30 minutes! I might be wrong but cant it only retrieve one car at a time? This would equal long wait times...
@Visionery14 жыл бұрын
@Brian Hutchinson, good observation, nobody seems to give cycle times any thought until the installed system fails to perform as promised (Google Brickell House Robotic Parking). I mentioned your concern in an earlier post: "Unfortunately car lifts and shuttles are this technology's Achilles heel, they only transport one car at a time. 2 minutes is being very optimistic, it can easily take >3 minutes between the time a car leaves the exit enclosure and the next car is brought down: this excludes time taken to enter the correct info on the keypad, store one's shopping, retrieving a rear car from a tandem bay (the car closest to the aisle must first be removed and stored elsewhere), new arrivals correctly positioning their car in the entrance enclosure etc. Clearing a 60-car system can take >3 hours if using one car lift, staff finishing work at 5PM don't want to wait until 8PM before finally driving out. They should have some type of app where you can let the garage know that you will arrive in 2 minutes, and as you are heading towards your car, the garage is in the process of retrieving your car.

@Visionery12 жыл бұрын
@@RomyIlano a beautiful waiting room is an excellent idea if cars can be expected within 15 minutes, but if one has to wait 3 hours to get one's car because everyone else managed to get into the queue first, then people will park elsewhere. These one-car-lift systems can be compared to walking a class of schoolchildren across the road one at a time, not very efficient.

@seraphina9854 жыл бұрын
They have almost twice the capacity per unit of land than a traditional one that is why and land costs a fortune, especially in urban areas. The reason is that just over half the floor space in a traditional multistory is for the ramps and access roads. Ramps being the worst offender as they use way more space than an elevator does. There is also the fact that by building them using this automated warehouse technology (Which is exactly where this tech comes from) you don't need to add in the cost for intermediate floors strong enough to handle vehicle loads as vehicles are stacked in a rack like pallets of goods in a warehouse. The tech is relatively low cost too as it is used in so many places these days pretty much all large airports use these same systems for baggage handling as do logistics and mail processing hubs etc.

You're exchanging speed for expense. As it said in the video, it takes two-minutes to find a parking spot, and it's probably even faster to park instead of having to look for a space. In addition, people do pay the extra for that parking. I would also say your car is more likely safer to than an open parking lot or parking garage.
@congeedaily6 жыл бұрын
Its no slower than a human getting your key, running down the ramps, find the car, move the other cars out of the way and delivering the car. Price wise, its on par with the human staffed lots in the neighborhood. The biggest draw for me is that nobody touches the car. Lock it up and let the robot slot your car in.

Places like New York where people who own cars are 1. Upper middle class or higher and don't want their brand new luxury cars getting jockeyed around and joyridden by teenage garage attendants. 2. These people also only use their cars once in a while to go visit relatives in the suburbs or to go to their weekend homes. Therefore it doesn't matter if it takes 2-3 minutes because that extra time doesn't make them late for an important meeting in the worse case it might make them late for a dinner reservation by a little bit.
