as a Russian I agreee to what he said mostly but the last part is not accurate. putting bandages, first aid and life-saving actions \ hiding in bunker \ putting on gas masks in case of emergency \ has been always in studing routine for every educational institution in USSR and never happened to be canceled for now. So its quite normal. Nobody is forcing nuclear war. Need to say that generations since millenials don't watch TV so much, and are not so affected by propaganda. But its not like anything we can do either so we go with the flow, avoiding hot topics among collegues. However its not prohibited to share your opinion about the war unless you invoke other people to something. So probably if you go on the streets (not popular streets) and ask for young people you might get real opinion which is negative.

@wiiion1256

In the West it depends what outlets or consume. If you consume left outlets there must likely to censor right „interests“ and vice versa. But in the west you are able to read the outlets you want and make your own picture while in Russia there is only one picture that from the government.

There is no state censorship in western countries and journalists would go absolutely nuts if that were attempted. But there are plenty of media that report one-sidedly, depending on the political will of the owners. In the broad media landscape, you have to choose a trustworthy and reputable medium if you want to be properly informed. And there is plenty of that too.

If you are going to interview people in Beijing, at least offer to pixelate their faces and change their voices and do it in a private setting. That's the only way of getting some honest answers from those who wish to speak. Confronting them in the streets where everyone can see and hear what they say will only lead to a regurgitation of their "public truth".

I think this is a dialectical question. Just imagine, if China's economy overtakes that of the United States and it has more and more say in the world and begins to influence the West, do you think the West will maintain the freedom and openness of speech now? In view of the current US intervention in some social media and its attitude towards China, this is impossible, because many youtubers who show the truth about China have been banned and their speech has been restricted. This shows that the US is not a country with complete freedom of speech. It also has its own so-called political correctness and speech restrictions, just because the values of Western countries are still mainstream at present. The West has always said that China is a subversion of the system. I know what they are afraid of. So one day, if China stands in the position of the United States and becomes confident and feels that its values have been accepted by the world, it will also have freedom of speech. It is human nature to seek advantage and avoid harm. So do not discuss here which country restricts the speech. It is a kind of self-protection, because the West will always use this excuse to cultivate its power in other countries, infiltrate and overthrow other countries' regimes. This is what Americans love to do. Although everyone knows it, spying on Allies, spying on South Korea, revolutionizing other countries, and making other countries into a mess, few countries dare to stand up and condemn it, because they also know that power is not easy to mess with, and can only do humble work, like South Korea, knowing that they are being monitored, but also have the face to say: It's OK, other countries do the same...

This, I agree! I think that this is a holistic and critical but also accurate comment on how the world works, where ultimately "freedom of speech" doesn't truly exist and where the dominant power in the world always appears "right". I wish the world had more people who understood the same.

@manipulatortrash

i think you're confusing company decisions and government action. Chinese censorship is done on the orders of the CCP. the CCP is also the highest level of decision-making in *everything* in chinese society. the US is 100% a country with freedom of speech and just because it stops being the dominant power doenst mean it will suddenly adopt the same style of authoritarianism that its current geopolitical rivals do. The US wasnt always a superpower, it was in fact among the weaker of most western nations for quite some time until it began its expansion, yet it always maintained freedom of speech. Political correctness is a social phenomena as well, not rule of law. the US has never made banning anyone off of a independent company a goal of its politics. Heck, you even got terrorists on twitter while mainstream political figures like trump were banned off the platform. you could *never* see xi jinping or other regressive dictators get banned off their own country's mainstream platforms. - " So one day, if China stands in the position of the United States and becomes confident and feels that its values have been accepted by the world, it will also have freedom of speech." This is hilariously naive and borderline satire. Why would it change its system of government? Who or what would cause that change? Do you think xi jinping or some future successor will simply let it happen? Both chinese politicians and mainstream western analysts agree on one thing at the moment: the current chinese momentum away from liberalization is going to continue for some time. Freedom of speech isnt something that the government grants the people, its something the people inherently should have and sets up a government to protect. There is a reason why americans have such disappointment in its past presidents who tried to subvert the truth. The chinese government will never give its people freedom of speech because that means their past sins would also have to be talked about, its just not possible. Simply being in a greater position of power doesnt mean a country will become more liberal, that notion died out when china refused to do so when it was already sufficiently wealthy and strong enough to hold out on its own in the late 20th century. - "It is human nature to seek advantage and avoid harm." I cant believe you endorse the idea of realism. Realism died out when the berlin wall fell and american realists were proven wrong. It is maybe true human nature is as such, but it does not mean every human is. Thus, not every politician and political establishment is either. - " So do not discuss here which country restricts the speech." Why not? You didn't explain why. - "It is a kind of self-protection, because the West will always use this excuse to cultivate its power in other countries, infiltrate and overthrow other countries' regimes. This is what Americans love to do. " ...no. That's just wrong. No country that has embraced democracy through the machinations of the west has been toppled for no reason. the worst sins of the americans in overthrowing governments were in latin america, where independent democracies were overthrown by the CIA. The US and the west has never overthrown a democracy they themselves cultivated and publicly allied with. You saying that promoting democracy and freedom in other countries is just a ploy to overthrow them is just lying. - "Although everyone knows it, spying on Allies, spying on South Korea, revolutionizing other countries, and making other countries into a mess, few countries dare to stand up and condemn it, because they also know that power is not easy to mess with, and can only do humble work, like South Korea, knowing that they are being monitored, but also have the face to say: It's OK, other countries do the same" I agree the US was wrong in its destruction of democratic and authoritarian countries alike, simply because of the mass death tolls, but you saying that its spy network is somehow tolerated because its allies are too scared to criticize it is wrong. American allies have always been allowed to criticize it in instances like the US invasion of iraq and its dealings in the middle east. If these countries didnt want organizations like the CIA as an information front, they would say so. The truth of the matter is that its useful to all of America's allies, not just to the US. Every time a major event happens in a US-allied country, its pretty much guaranteed the domestic government information groups are actively collaborating with the likes of the CIA for the CIA's own stores of information. you're painting a story of some sort of overbearing USSR-style US that breaths down on the back of all nations, allied or not, and that is simply wrong. The US and the West has a vast history of its own sins, but that doesnt mean it justifies what the likes of China and North Korea does, you're playing up to what-aboutism with that sort of appeal. Freedom of speech *does* exist in the west and its a shame how far people like you go to justify its repression in other countries based on unrelated issues. The fact any sort of domestic hatred is pointed at the US and the West is a testament to its own ability to protect freedoms, very unlike china or north korea where government criticism is a crime.

Bunch of lies from the very beginning, couldn't handle the horsecrap of such magnitude and turned the video off after one minute. First, for calling a war a war no ordinary person gets 10-15 years in prison, actually even on the state-owned channels and media hosts and guest often have this slip of the tongue of the "war" enunciation, then the one who said it would fleetingly correct themselves with "war, err, special military operation" in a 'wink-wink, ya know we're supposed to refer to it this way but who cares' and go on with their convo regardless. As for people arrested at antiwar protest early on - detained and released, more often than not even without a fine, only with "verbal reprisal", that's all there is to it. Can't comment further because I didn't watch the rest of the propaganda this weird personage has been spewing because as I said the very first minute exposed his agenda and libelous story alright.

Regardless, Putin is horseshit. Invading a sovereign country is never a valid reason. Unless you did it for retaliatory reasons.

Uhm, this is “Asian Boss” and its topics are solely about Asian current affairs, Asian geopolitics, and Asian culture in general. Russia is also in Asia, remember? Hence it’s being discussed. US is not in Asia, so a mainly American topic is irrelevant in the Asian context and Asian world. If you want a discussion about American censorship, then go to an American channel.
