I honestly just cannot fathom how people can watch something like this and still hate on Lars. Sure, he had a rough patch with the ego and the attitude in the 90s for a minute, and he took the heat. But this interview, and many others, shows what a well-rounded, smart, kind, savvy dude he is. They're the same people that are still mad about the Napster thing 23-24 years ago, even though he was obviously right the entire time!! Crazy, I tell you, crazy.

Paul began to take over the leadership of the Beatles after they stopped touring in August '66, and even more so after Brian Epstein passed. Suddenly there was no adult to lead them, and in temperament, Paul was the closest one of them to that and was, also by temperament, willing to take it on. Also, John was taking a lot of LSD, etc. at that time and apparently couldn't be bothered with leading the Beatles anymore. Paul, who imbibed and enjoyed such substances as well and as often, always had a more mature and sophisticated outlook, and was not the rough "rocker" that John wanted to be and thought of himself. "What're you rebelling against, Johnny?" "Whaddya got?" When, in July 1961 bass player Stu Sutcliffe left the band to pursue painting, they needed someone to take his place, Paul stepped up and gave up the guitar and piano as his main instruments for the most part. That showed self-sacrificing courage and leadership, just what they desperately wanted after Brian suddenly died.

I dunno, Pauls 'mature and sophisticated outlooks' produced songs like ob-la-di ob-la-da and rocky racoon, while lennon was writing across the universe... Lyrically Lennon was far more mature and sophisticated
@Glicksman1

@@kerryhirsch9705 I agree, and I think Paul would as well, that no one was a better lyricist than John. Although he would have likely bristled at being called so, he was a poet. What I was referring to was Paul's sense for their business, and how best to keep it running. Paul stepped up to that plate, something that John did not have (or at least no longer had) any interest in, nor, I dare say, ability for. Don't forget "Maxwell's Silver Hammer". Besides, having some fun with the music while writing "Blackbird", "For No One", "Here, There, and Everywhere", "She's Leaving Home", and the "Once There Was A Way" medley at the end of "Abbey Road", is the mark of a most sophisticated individual, don't you think?

It's a shame that Bill Maher feels the need to brush Lars off as Lars get's into actually explaining how the "social Democracy" in Denmark have worked. Bill knows that it is actually has worked quite well in Denmark, but he is a little scared to open that door not knowing what people (Americans) will read into it. Social Democracy is not like Marxistic Socialism at all. Social Democracy is much more of a middle of the road thing. Denmark is quite Liberal in the words real meaning, and not the meaning Americans read into being a Liberal, because "the Libs" is absolutely not a term you use in a flattering way in the US anymore. Denmark is in no way Communistic - we have high taxes, that is correct, but the money flows right out there again and combined with almost 100% market economics on everything it's making us one of the strongest economies in the world. And Bill probably feels that this is dangerous to signal about something that in many American minds has a Socialism label to it. It isn't. It was closer in the 60's and 70's - much like in the US after The Green New Deal. But just as Thatcher and Reagan swung the pendulum hard right it also swung in Denmark, only a lot slower. In Denmark it's been swinging more and more to the right since 1982, but slow enough for Denmark to still have some safety nets left under people. Not as many as just 15-20 years ago, and they are stille removing more and more year by year making Denmark more and more into a capitalistic politic environment. We even have more and more corruption sneaking in to the political system year by year.

For a long time I have been stating the examples of Denmark, Norway, and other such successful, peaceful nations as how Democratic Socialism (which, BTW, includes and permits plenty of predatory, avaricious Capitalism for those who might miss it) not only works, and works very well, but shows how nations and their people may thrive and live in peace together without preying upon each other like vicious, rabid animals. (actually animals are much nicer than people, mostly only killing for food and only as a last resort for self-protection) Too many Americans think that "Socialism" is/was, for instance, the USSR and Cuba, which were fascist, authoritarian kleptocratic dictatorship/oligarchies. Just because the word "socialist" appears in a nation's name does not necessarily mean that it is a nation that practices Socialism.

(English translation) All societies and nations go through swings of more or less liberal or conservative ways. It is the natural order of life that all things change and pass for better or worse as we may see it. Demark is one of the nicest countries to which my wife and I have ever been, and is populated with some of the nicest, most beautiful people. I cannot imagine that those fine people will permit oppressive conservatism or worse to take over that lovely place for very long. Things will swing back again. Have patience and do what you must to restore and maintain a fair, liberal Social Democracy. So long for now.

A lot of "big trees" in the USA would be shit out of luck if the government didn't keep bailing them out when the banks go belly up. Biggest difference between the bottom and the top in the USA? The top gets bailed out routinely, the bottom gets stuck with cuts and cuts lol

nobody needs to be THAT TALL of a tree! its needless, its unnecessary, its wasteful and it benefits NOBODY! (not even the tree itself. because that particular tree already has enough money to last it 3 lifetimes) . if your goal is "amassing money for the sake of itself" the world doesnt need YOU! nor should it give you the opportunity to do so.
