Kostas Sloukas was a EuroLeague legend who played for Olympiakos. A Greek born shooting guard who had won multiple titles playing with Olympiakos for over a decade. But in Summer 2023 Kostas Sloukas committed the cardinal sin, and left Olympiakos to join their eternal rivals Panithanaikos. After this signing, Kostas Sloukas became the most hated player in EuroLeague. But in the end, Sloukas had the last laugh and fulfilled the ultimate redemption story by winning the 2024 EuroLeague championship and being MVP of the final four.

We kind of hated Papaloukas man. He was OSFP from a young age and then came back after his CSSKA stint. Go watch the 2007 Euroleague final in Athens again. Pao fans booed him as everyone else. He was at best average when he played in the Euroleague finals (7,3 points 3,3 assists and of course the worst defender in the league). Wrong. He stated exactly the opposite after the last meeting with olympiako's ' presidents. Now the respect has many aspects. Sloukas is being cursed by every team he has ever played. Aris, Fenerbahce and of course olympiakos. That shows something. His demeanor was that he wanted to play as much as he wanted, he demanded specific acquisitions of new players, he demanded more money as a 33+ year old and he demanded that he should call the plays of the team occasionally. He had played 7 times in the Euroleague finals, for 4 different coaches (Ivkovic, Obradovic, Bartzokas and Sferopoulos) . He was the worst defender( probably in the whole league) and on the offensive end he had 7,3 points 3,3 assists. That's how "great" he was. And of course he hardly ever plays for the greek national team (3/9 previous years) and when he does he is mediocre as usual. He is a tiny petty little man that disrespected the club that established him as a player and the fans as well.

For us, Athens, Piraeus, Agalaio, Peristeri, Kyphisia, Kalithea, Nikaia, etc. are a huge single city with many municipalities. The Athenians, however, have their own issues and separate themselves. It is an ancient Greek phenomenon to try hard to separate ourselves.

Olympiakos is known for burying and shelfing younger talents through the years, to promote "their children". Especially the football club. As for the basketball team, lets all go a few years back and remember Spanoulis. He made a name for himself in Panathinaikos and stayed there for the better part of 4 years, yet everyone and their mother remember him for his decade in Olympiakos. And actually they do not hate each other (exceptions from both teams always there are).They are passionate fans, supporting their team and they can recognize the value of a great player of the opposite team. The first mistake concerns Panathinaikos which is the team of our capital athens if you see the name Pan-athina-ikos derives from this and Olympiacos PIRAEUS which is the team based on Piraeus the southern suburb of Attica in where you can find the port of piraeus one of the biggest ports globally. The second mistake was that among the best Greek players you missed, Galis. If you do research in a much more detailed approach, you can see that Hall of famer Galis' contribution was crucial for the history of the Greek basketball.

Uf.. Not what I saw last year. I traveled to Greece to watch Panathinaikos - Alba Berlin on Tuesday and went to watch Olympiakos - Fenerbahce on Thursday (last round of the regular season). I don't mean to offend Olympiakos but there is a difference I saw. First Panatha fans looked richer, dressed better, there even was a game on the huge screens where kids show their shoes and the idea was to see who got the most expensive ones. The beer inside the arena was around 10 euro I think (I didn't pay for one), the water around 4 euro. SEF - the beer 3,5 euro, the water - 50 cents :D For me the most drastic difference was how fans behave tho. OAKA was clean as hell.. No one left any trash around the seats, the toilets were perfectly clean also. In SEF tho.. Oh, my.. People smoke cigarettes and just throw the butts under the seats. Also popcorn everywhere, beer cans, etc. I, who am fan of Panatha, was cleaning around me in SEF because I felt so uncomfortable about my neighbouring seats leaving such mess, it's disrespectful for the team and the organisation, but Oly fans were just.. Bruh.. Someone else will clean it. For me that mentality and difference in prices speaks exactly about difference in socio-economic status. Ofc I've been to SEF only once I'll admit I may be jumping into conclusions too fast, but that's the impression I was left with.

Got 10 mil to play in the rival club, went there and then had a very disrespectful attitude towards Olympiacos the whole season. His main motive was surely the money, which is highlighted by his absence on the national team since there is no motive to play there. The claim was that he was injured but and I quote Basket News "Kostas Sloukas has never played in the Olympics. Sloukas is my favourite player and supporting him no matter the team he plays for. Also you failed to explain more the disagreement between Sloukas and coach Bartzokas(probably the best coach in europe) which led to Panathinaikos offering him amazing money and signing him. For all the non Greeks a brief summary is that Olympiacos was playing amazing team basketball, but Sloukas felt he could offer more with his playmaking and couldnt due to the system. The system of Olympiacos was not giving him the full freedom to run the team as a point guard the way he wanted. What a fascinating story.
