The way i went through this in middle school and my ex took all my fake friends and turned them against me on his failed attempt to ruin my life. Lets say i found my true friends then where they wanted to be friends with me because of my personality and not because i was gay and they stood up for me when my “friends” wouldnt.

This was a true message. I had to learn to validate myself and allow myself to be true, to not reject who I was. There was a meditation book I liked called 30 Days to Overcome Loneliness by Harper Daniels, and the Tao Te Ching. Being content with oneself is a must in this world.

To quote Kira Nerys, if there was ever a time I made you feel like you couldn’t be yourself, I’m sorry. I’m pretty sure you’ve been you with me, as I’ve been me with you, but I related to feeling like I have to make myself appealing to be liked. It happens to autistic people too, because we get ostracized for who we are. Wow. And it can be super traumatic to let the mask fall and be your true self only to get abandoned for it. I relate and it’s painful.

@@DonnyWinter I’m happy for you! It’s good that you’ve shed those “shells”. But man it can be hard to discard those aspects of ourselves when they’re super ingrained. Seems we’re walking similar paths, as we often seem to do! 😇
