I have no idea how you could be nervous about posting this. You're the best. I love your integrity. I see this often in Mormons and ex-Mormons. Not necessarily in the Elders but in the believers: it looks really good. Thank you for advocating being oneself. It was a real pleasure to see the whole clip. And the editing was superb: it stayed interesting all the way.

You had nothing to be nervous about. I loved what you said about dating, especially about looking at how they treat their family. That was a really important lesson for me. Maya Angelou once said, "When someone shows you who they are, believe them; the first time". Wishing you the best.

This was a great q&a. You were open and honest and avoided questions that are too personal and really no one's business. I have family in Austin and I lived there for a year. It's wonderful and going to lake Travis is fun. Keep up the great videos.

This is great! The backstory about your move to Austin is interesting. It's not one city versus the other, I don't think, more like in my experience, the huge change that comes with a move can open you up to so many new things.

"Big, shocking lifebreaking news" is an understatement. So many coming out stories are traumatic partially because of unrealistic expectations of parents and family INSTANTLY accepting the news. It frequently takes years for a person to accept their own sexual preferences, so to give a 180 to those you love and expect full acceptance of the situation is both unrealistic and selfish. Your handling of the situation shows a maturity and empathy for others that is so admirable.
@ag-bf3ty
@ag-bf3ty 2 жыл бұрын
Why's it unrealistic to expect people to not be homophobic? It's not as if there isn't plenty of LGBT education nowadays. Now I'm not saying I'd expect people raised in a very conservative area to suddenly switch their entire mode of thinking. But the way you phrased this, it sounds like you're saying gay people are selfish and unreasonable to expect acceptance. When it's precisely the opposite. It's selfish to think a gay / trans son or daughter will just magically change their sexuality to appease the parent.

I’m certain this is coming from a good place, but being “wishy-washy” isn’t necessarily a bad thing. There’s a difference between being driven and being cocky, and anyone who feels they have their life completely together is a big red flag in my opinion

Hi 👋🏽 Joseph, thank you for your honesty and integrity in answering your questions. I believe as you gain perspective in life and yourself the questions answered would change. As in everything in life changes, I’ve been told I’m a straight acting gay person,yet that as not stop me from being who I am , a proud gay man. Yes I’ve been challenged in my life, I’ve been fired from jobs, threatened on my life, shoot at a with a gun and disenfranchised from family. I’ve led counseling sessions with professional involving parents of LBTGQ+ kids and to hear the hatred spewing from them with not a ounce of compassion or exceptance . I too faced this from my mother, using biblical terms. So yes I understand the magnitude of the problem involving gay culture. Today’s youth have it so much easier, because of the precedent we afforded you. I wish the best in your endeavors with great admiration.🙏🌈❤️🏳️‍🌈🙋‍♂️

Honesty IS important, and essential to a good relationship. But I don't include the little social or white lies that help us to get along with the world. As long as it doesn't hurt people (in fact most social lies are to save the feelings of others), then I'm alright with it. Most ethicists are too.

Ugggghhhh please don't use the term "straight acting". What does that even mean? I've known tons of hetero men who are somewhat effeminate. Just say "masculine" instead.

Good to see a report from the other end of the age spectrum with such a positive approach to dealing with their sexuality and life in general. Gives me hope for the future. Sorry if this next bit is arrogant or unwanted, but as an atheist I would like you to know that their is a very active atheist community in Austin who might be worth a hearing. Look forward to hearing more of your journey whatever

up the street from you at 901 Trinity St is First Baptist Church Austin. Despite the Baptist moniker, FBC is an affirming congregation and LBGTQ+ worshippers and members are welcomed. Same sex marriages are officiated there. Univ. Presbyterian on San Antonio St and Univ Baptist on the Drag also welcome LBGTQ+ worshippers. First Baptist holds open communions, and communion is celebrated about once each quarter.

At 21 (I'm guessing) you will probably go through at least one or two more significant relationships before finding 'the' one (and even that....). People these days are still discovering themselves; from the great heights of age, I sometimes wonder how anyone, married at 20, remains so at 40 (the kids). Be as kind and gentle with yourself and the ex as you can - or as he deserves - and you'll be fine. It's all a learning experience and if you both initially chose reasonably well, people become either vaguely pleasant memories or friends. On Austin - on the basis of 3-4 visits, not a fan - but if I were 21, yeah, it would be pretty cool. [Oh, and lots of people flip, and/or change roles over time or in context of who you're with - but it's of perpetual interest.]
