Let's talk about how queerbaiting worsens gay loneliness. Being that it's Pride month, I figured it'd be fitting to discuss this! Follow my work and socials: linktr.ee/donn... #lgbt #mentalhealth #relationships

I see queer baiting as a form of oppression. It implies that being fully out is a bad or dangerous thing to do and you should hide the reality and hint in ambiguous ways. The open truth about your sexuality would be too shocking. This is why I object to the idea that someone’s sexuality is never our business. If someone is a celebrity and baiting then it is our business.

In my day we called gay baiting lol. To me it does not exist. If I engage with content or media I'm not going to blame the creator of the content for what I engage with. I find that when people mention baiting it's a form of insecurity. Blaming others or attempting to hold others responsible for what what you like to engage with/in is not fair. Do hope you have a good day tho.

🏳️🌈Happy Pride! My only real experience with queerbaiting is fandom, where shows like Supernatural or Sherlock (I only know stuff by osmosis) implied queer romances and then subverted them. Then there’s media with bury your gays where only the queer couples get sad endings and…it sucks.

Excellent point! I'm glad we have better examples in media these days!

A part of me is glad that, as a teenager, I found a few actual gay men on KZbin who talked openly about their experiences (adopting & fostering as a same-sex couple, for instance). For gay teenagers and young adults, I think queerbaiting has a greater personal impact because they don't know how to sus out role models or accurate representation. It doesn't help that the queerbait material is also popular among other demographics, notably girls and women, which in turn buries what our youth actually need to engage with.

Phenomenal points. Once I started branching into KZbin, I found the representation crucial (and helpful) on my own journey toward self-realization. ❤️

I mean, you do make a point. We are responsible for engaging with what we choose. However, I also think there's a vulnerable point we all are at prior to coming out where we don't have that ability to know what makes good or bad representation. I don't think queerbaiting is fair to those people.
