Those are “business meetings.” And if a candidate you want to influence is running for re-election, throw a few dollars to their campaign to convince them that they are the good guys. And finally, if they have a charity or a cause they are passionate about, well, these lobbyists might be willing to write a check to ensure your pet projects get funded. Of course, you have to be extremely careful with how you word things or whether any money exchanges hands at one of these meetings. Even the slightest misstep means you could get thrown in jail.

Yeah considering he made such a point of pointing out that the doubled risk of birth defects in pregnancy after age 35 only doubles from 0.5% to 1%, he should really also point out that a 20% increase is 20% of the odds of getting cancer someone already had, which is 37-40% for all cancers, and less for the types of cancer that this could affect.

Also I feel like "eating just 1 club sandwich/hot dog a day" isn't actually making the risk that obvious for all but the biggest (pun kind of intended) lovers of processed meats.... that's still a lot? I mean I'm sure there are people out there who have to eat processed meat every day but it would be more interesting to hear about the statistics for slightly more likely consumption. Of course another part of the reason people eat too much processed meat is that non-processed meat and fresh veggies/fruit are often both more expensive, slightly more time intensive/harder to prepare well, and less available for people who have to eat out due to constraints of their job such as not having a fridge at work or even a place to put a packed lunch (more a problem for low wage workers than your average office job).

It's not that you shouldn't eat it at all. Just don't don't excessively. It's like that with almost anything. You can have a burger once in a while. You can have ice cream. You can drink a beer. These things help you in no way and aren't healthy. But in moderation they are fine. It's like salt. Our body needs it. It makes food taste better. But too much and you posion yourself. Everything in moderation. People often tend to forget that cause many people now a days have this go hard or go home mentality. It's like all or nothing. I attribute it to the grind and hustle culture that is beyond illogical hypocritical and toxic. Don't go overboard in either direction. Find a balance
@antonymilne13462 жыл бұрын
@@aliquidgaming1068 also of what I've heard, heavily processed bacon is the thing you really gotta watch out for. Too much of any bacon (or like you said, anything for that matter) is obviously bad for you, but just some bacon that's not super pumped full of stuff is whats gonna be better for you. Because at the end of the day, pig is white meat, its much better for you, barring too much of the fat of course. So you're obviously right, finding a balance with all foods is most important. A full English breakfast on the weekend isn't gonna kill you, technically speaking it's one of the most nutritious ways to start your day. But doing that constantly is where you're gonna notice problems.

You don't mention the reason those processed meats increase cancer risk, and it's largely due to sodium nitrate. It's terrible and shouldn't go in any food ever, but in North America it's commonly used as a curing agent because it's cheap. It's also used as an industrial cleaning agent, so... y'know. It's perfectly viable to cure and sell meat without sodium nitrate, and by extension, not increase your cancer risk. You could just use, y'know, salt.

People didn't have to be tricked into liking bacon, most people naturally like foods high in fat and salt, since that's where the flavour comes from. It's why we also generally like buttery things and fried chicken. And a 20% increase in risk is nothing when you consider that eating organic peanut butter and drinking hot beverages will also increase your chances of getting cancer in your lifetime.
