I would like to point out that most other products that people use to replace bacon are in their own ways as bad, especially when on diets (about a third of all 'professionally researched' dietary foods are just as deadly as bacon, as most of them are just pushed forward by people trying to sell their own products)

Wouldn't even be surprised if the kid got a name change as well.

@The Bird idk i mean I'm not exactly rich and at one point I was poor yet I still managed to not only find friends who are still with me to this day and I did eventually find that special someone only to lose her due to an illness but I at least know that if I were to suddenly become insanely rich they wouldn't take advantage of that while the ones crawling back I know are only after my money. Money is a dangerous weapon and having too much of it not only will change you but make you think the ones surrounding you actually care for you but in reality they don't. This kid could have everything given to him but finding true sincerity and generosity from someone other then his parents is going to be a difficult task for him.

@@BouncingTribbles exactly, if eaten in moderation nothing is truly bad for you. Sugars are found in fruits but the difference between that and sugars in candy is that natural sugars have necessary nutrients like fiber while added sugars are unnecessary calories. Cholesterol, which is shown as the enemy of health, comes in two forms, LDL is the bad cholesterol everyone is worried about while HDL cholesterol is important to health and muscle growth. Sodium is a electrolyte that the body needs some level of to function. It’s all about moderation(that also means don’t completely cut it out) and knowing where it comes from

As a farmer, there’s plenty to ruin about vegetables. Soil erosion and nutrient depletion, fertilizers and pesticides, deforestation to create new fields, and that we are pretty dependent on GMOs as well as fertilizers and pesticides due to a lack of suitable farmland or enough farmers in general to grow enough to meet the ever growing need without them. Also, fun fact, we are never more than two bad growing seasons away from having a food shortage.

If fast food industry didn't change their fat for canola oil we could have save million of life...

It’s funny because cooking *anything* creates carcinogens and precursors to carcinogens. It’s part of the results of the Maillard reaction. However, proving they actually cause cancer or don’t cause cancer in humans hasn’t been investigated. Instead, they ask people with cancer and not cancer what their diet is like. (They are definitely carcinogens in lab mice and rats that have been bred to get cancer if you look at them funny, but so is saccharine and that’s absolutely not carcinogenic in humans as we lack the genes that trigger it)

You really wouldn't actually. Its time I ruin Adam for you. In reality pretty much anyone you know would rather blindly enjoy things without the dark truths blurted out to them constantly. Most fun activities we partake in daily are to help steer us away from thinking about our depressingly sad jobs and lives. So having a friend like Adam that always shows up to ruin the mood would genuinely make you a more depressed person, literally taking the joy out of most things you love to do. In fact people like him seem to naturally enjoy ruining the mood for you by explaining only the bad things and none of the good.

And THEN he said the meat industry campaigned it sell bacon and covered up its health risks. The two aren’t connected. Adam was referring to the carcinogen. Which comes from how bacon and hotdogs are processed. Not related to fats. He never once said in the video that fat was bad for you. Just that bacon comes from the fatty part of the pig. L

Lobbying is legal on a technicality. You can’t actually give money to a politician, but you can take them out to dinner or shows. Those are “business meetings.” And if a candidate you want to influence is running for re-election, throw a few dollars to their campaign to convince them that they are the good guys. And finally, if they have a charity or a cause they are passionate about, well, these lobbyists might be willing to write a check to ensure your pet projects get funded. Of course, you have to be extremely careful with how you word things or whether any money exchanges hands at one of these meetings. Even the slightest misstep means you could get thrown in jail.

Also I feel like "eating just 1 club sandwich/hot dog a day" isn't actually making the risk that obvious for all but the biggest (pun kind of intended) lovers of processed meats.... that's still a lot? I mean I'm sure there are people out there who have to eat processed meat every day but it would be more interesting to hear about the statistics for slightly more likely consumption. Of course another part of the reason people eat too much processed meat is that non-processed meat and fresh veggies/fruit are often both more expensive, slightly more time intensive/harder to prepare well, and less available for people who have to eat out due to constraints of their job such as not having a fridge at work or even a place to put a packed lunch (more a problem for low wage workers than your average office job).

Everything in moderation. People often tend to forget that cause many people now a days have this go hard or go home mentality. It's like all or nothing. Because at the end of the day, pig is white meat, its much better for you, barring too much of the fat of course. So you're obviously right, finding a balance with all foods is most important. You don't mention the reason those processed meats increase cancer risk, and it's largely due to sodium nitrate. It's terrible and shouldn't go in any food ever, but in North America it's commonly used as a curing agent because it's cheap. It's also used as an industrial cleaning agent, so... y'know. It's perfectly viable to cure and sell meat without sodium nitrate, and by extension, not increase your cancer risk. You could just use, y'know, salt.

People didn't have to be tricked into liking bacon, most people naturally like foods high in fat and salt, since that's where the flavour comes from. It's why we also generally like buttery things and fried chicken. And a 20% increase in risk is nothing when you consider that eating organic peanut butter and drinking hot beverages will also increase your chances of getting cancer in your lifetime. @@phant0m0th_ This!!! We grow up on high fat high salt (and high sugar) diets, that's why most people like this stuff. Also I know that, with sugar at least, when you eat a lot of it your body kind of gets used to it and you then need more of it to notice a strong flavour. Try not eating sugar for a couple weeks and natural things like fruits start to seem sweeter. (Don't know for sure if it's the same with salt but it would make sense) Also, I personally think bacon is boring and gross. It just tastes like salty meat.

Alright. So imagine brushing your teeth dry, without toothpaste, while someone waves a piece of bacon under your nose and then eats it. That's what brushing my teeth with bacon toothpaste was like. There was a smell of bacon, but no such taste. And brushing my teeth was less satisfying overall than doing so with minty toothpaste, but not as unsatisfying as doing so dry. Very, very faint bacon aftertaste. Seems like an inoffensive novelty. Not worth all the fear and repulsion I've felt over the last nine months.

Ok so 3:21 How much is this 20%? This reminded me of an earlier video of adam about pregnancy and deformations before the age of 40. Here he says 20% because it sounds *much bigger* and scaryer that the real number. For example: You are 50% more likely to get cancer if you eat toast. but if your chances were 1% whithout toast, that means that your chances increased only to 1.5% Saying 50% more likely is more scary and impactfull than 1.5% And the problem with that is the fact that the audience now doesn't know what the real number was. This is the second video I see do the same thing about the same topic. Shame. FOUND THE REAL NUMBERS: *The chances increase from 5% to 6%.* THERE is your damn 20%

Okay, dude. At 3:16 , he shows the source they used for that tidbit: The International Agency for Research on Cancer. While yeah, the lifetime risk of colon cancer is 5%, raised to 6% by eating processed meat, what about the 800 studies that showed eating 50 grams of processed meat (1 hot dog or 4 bacon strips) a day raise the risk of colorectal cancer to 18%? Or Colleen Doyle’s (American Cancer society managing director of nutrition, RD and MS) statement of ‘we should be limiting red and processed meat to help reduce colon cancer risk, and possibly the risk of other cancers. The occasional hot dog or hamburger is okay.’ ? What about those stats?

@@ruarimcdonald1131 My point was not on the severity of the 1%, my point was focused on the fact that he said it's 20% more likeley to get cancer instead of just saying it's risen by a total of 1%. (because 20% seems like a bigger number) My point was also about the fact that it's a *hypocritical* statement since in an earlyer video of Adam, he had debated exactly against this, yet now he is doing it himself. Though, I will admit that my comment was very poorly written due to my frustration. (Hipocracy video of his: Adam Ruins Everything - You Can Still Have Babies After 35 | truTV at 2m20s - 2m40s)
