Botswana is the exception to the Africa syndrome. Botswana does not recognize race in its constitution. The country does not allow unfettered immigration. Crime and corruption are not tolerated. It helps to have lots of minerals and a small population. The rest of Africa would do well to take a leaf out of Botswana's book. The country needs to be careful not to go too far down the socialist path. And the country needs to rethink its land ownership policy, currently it's almost impossible for a foreigner to purchase agricultural land. The ownership of agricultural land by citizens is difficult, most have to lease land. This and climate is why the agricultural sector has not developed. The sovereign wealth fund is a brilliant idea and will help the country transition from diamond revenue.
