How Brakence Ruined Hyperpop

Brakence took the hyperpop and underground rap scene by storm and became an underground legend. Will he be stuck under the hyperpop label with artists like glaive and ericdoa forever? or is this his chance to prove music is more than just a genre label?

it feels that way, but more so he does it the best so you can see people bite his style. His emotional voice cracks sound realer, relative to a glaive who doesnt do it as well, so most of the artists come off formulaic whereas brakence' music comes off feeling like music to match the genre, rather than writing for a genre, and saying everything thats been said. everybody is "cold", alone, crazy, insane, sad, both, low self esteem etc. but a great example of this is one of glauves best songs three wheels. everything about the song feels good except the words that lead into the chorus and the opening to the song. These guys tend not to be the GREATEST writers Brakence is an excellent writer. the old songs hit, but you can tell people who chose this genre because of who they are and what their musical leanings are, compared to brakence who feels like theyre copying HIM when brakence isnt hyperpop the genre, but he FEELs like he is hyperpop. brakence and the genre are one its hard to see it differently. for another example, underscores spoiled little brat. Very good, catchy but formulaic lol

I'm flat out just not calling Brakence hyper-pop anymore, Hypochondriac is something else entirely. Some of suggested glitch-hop but honestly, part of the point of the album was mocking the idea of genre. I don't think I'm ready to give up on genres, I think categorization is too useful, but I'm willing to entertain the argument. And also the guy's a fucking genius and I need more.
@jauquex763

As a listener, genres can help categorize things, but I’m talking more from a creative pov. Like artists shouldn’t conform to rules of a genre

id say glitch pop is pretty accurate. Some songs are more pure-pop like the title track, and most songs have a pop structure (with a few exceptions). What makes it different is the vocal effects and the glitching sounds as well as the messy percussion

I feel like the main problem is tiktok. Every time an underground genre is presented to people on tiktok, it seems like they tend to think it's supposed to have a specific sound rather than realizing that artists can change how they want to sound.

It's crazy how some many other artists now are replicating Brakence's style , as I'm pretty sure Brakence is heavily influenced by the artist called EDEN, thier voices, sound and online image are pretty similar, it's cool that this kind of music is now getting more popular, as before Brakence, EDEN was the only artist I can think of with that style of production

summary: brakence ruined hyperpop by being super awesome and breaking and rewriting the boundaries of music itself. and then everyone was like "dude that's so cool!" and tried to copy him but aren't good enough so everything is like "brakence: walmart version" now.

Solid vid. Hyperpop has fallen into this very cliche trend of *only* using high-pitched or incredibly autotuned vocals drowned out by colorful production. There are thankfully a few artists who have drifted from this and actually have solid voices and original production, but Brakence is genuinely on a different level/thought process what it comes to this. I know Brakence doesn't really embody Hyperpop specifically anymore given what his new music offers genre-bending-wise, but whatever he is doing is phenomenal, and I can't wait to see what he has in stores in the future.

Absolutely excellent video, it actually covered a lot of things I've been thinking since hypochondriac but haven't known how to express. I used to think Brakence was hyperpop but this album has totally flipped my perspective. I was creating a hyperpop playlist and I wasn't sure if Brakence should be included, it didn't feel right but I didn't know why.

Randy did the impossible when it came to hypochondriac. my music taste has NEVER been the same afterwards. I just kept on listening and listening until it hit me, hypochondriac isn't a combination of different songs (it pretty much is but still) it's a story and every song had something to say.

Great vid brother! The thing that really scared me and made me delay the opening of my little channel, is that actually I don't want people to think I'm "copying" somebody and I was scared by judgement. Of course I do inspire on somebody, but I do what I do because it heals me. I'm happy for Brakence because he (with EDEN before him) created a sound that I really like. Even tho EDEN has a special place in my heart together with Witt Lowry (different genre), I like the idea that he tried to explain us , that there's no need to fit in a "concept" (genre). I feel that genre is just useful to hep us to know what we are talking about , not really the "fit in the box" concept. Anyway, great video, keep it up!

Unpopular opinion: I think Brakence is indeed a new wave of Emo Pop Rock. I like that description because it doesn’t necessarily box him in to any rules. “Emo” is vague. “Pop” is vague. “Rock” is vague. No point in trying to reverse engineer to define it.

Dope video. Brakence never fell off tho, it’s how people used to release music. He’s emulating artists he took inspiration from in that sense. Skrillex for example, he drops songs but he hasn’t done a solo album since 2014. Hyperpop is very general, composed of a bunch of sub genres. Brakence happens to hit all the sub genres. That’s where he sets himself apart. And I also feel like I’m regurgitating what was said in the video. My bad. Again, dope vid. Well done
