Purdy has the best brain I’ve seen in a quarterback in a long time. He was never expected to seat his rookie season. He got a playbook and learned it completely when no quarterback has learned Shanahans playbook completely before. He did it not expecting to be a starter in his rookie season and won ever game he started except the on he got hurt in.

10:05 They WERE saying the same kind of stuff about Montana, and this was BEFORE Jerry Rice, John Taylor, Brent Jones, Tom Rathman, et. all where it was Montana and a room of journeymen but determined players. Hell, he had already won a Super Bowl MVP, dissected the league for 3 years with legendary comebacks, but when he faced Dan Marino in Super Bowl 19, it was ALL about Marino & the Dolphins. Joe Montana was just an afterthought and then he preceded to put on an absolute Quarterbacking clinic throwing for 331 yards, 3 TDs, rushed for 59 more yards and ANOTHER TD! Again, BEFORE all the super stars had been drafted. Brock is not part of the narrative the NFL wants to push, but there will be a point where they can no longer deny him his flowers..

It seems so obvious "can't miss" prospects are extremely rare, and I agree in the consensus that you need to build a complete team with picks instead of trying to hit the lotto. So why did the 9ers "mtg the farm" for Lance? Did Kyle and Lynch buy into the "QB era" narrative and the bs that you can't win in this league without an elite QB like a Mahomes/Allen? I'm still baffled how the Lance debacle even happened. I mean they could have gotten a more proven QB in Fields for way less than Lance, maybe without giving up any extra picks. Did Kyle get too cute with Lance? On It's face it was crazy and after I finally got a chance to watch Lance it took me 2 drives to see he wasn't the answer and thought the 9ers amazing roster was wasted with that huge whif.

Lance was drafted as a known development project in 2021 (pick #3). He had a lot of attributes they wanted - a diamond in the rough. He wasn't meant to be drafted and then take the starter position. But his development got short circuited due to Lance's injuries (plural - lots of delays). He was even more injury-prone than JimmyG. That was the problem. The big investment had a time limit - and expiration date. They had to get him developed and move him into the QB1 role within 3 years. The injuries derailed the development schedule. He is still considered potentially a very good QB - but he still needs that development. Time simply ran out in SF. They needed a QB1 sooner than Lance could be developed. Purdy was an unbelievable gem, not fully recognized until after they drafted him (last in 2022). His first year in training camp showed such poise, coolness and success under pressure - despite him being "too short" and what seemed like a "weak" arm compared to the ideal big-arm QB's. But he just kept impressing. Some thought better than Lance at the end of training camp. A lot of us saw it in the 2022 pre-season games. We actually understood how they gave him a backup role and cut Nate Sudfeld, who had been a good QB2 behind Jimmy for years before drafting Lance, and he knew the playbook well, etc. It said something when they cut Nate and kept Brock. Everyone saw something special in Brock after his first training camp and pre-season in 2022. Trey started the 2022 season while the team hoped to trade Jimmy, but Lance got injured (yet again) in Wk2. The rest is history: Jimmy came in and had an ELITE year (for 10 games), setting up the team very well for the playoffs but got injured Wk13, so they had to pull the QB3 off the bench. And ...wow! After 2022, Purdy was so good the Lance development project was too distant of a project due to all the injury time lost, and since Purdy had worked out so well... they made the tough call to cut Lance loose, who they had invested so much. I still wish Trey Lance the best. Really nice guy in interviews. I hope he gets that good development and we see him play in the future.

Tbf Purdy was always a good qb. The issues with Purdy really had to do with his height and strength. Thats the only reason he wasn’t drafted higher. If he was 6 foot 5 he would have been the first overall pick in that qb draft because that draft was bad

@@musa7606 I understand team accomplishments matter. But the guys I mentioned carry their team, and they have worse teams than Purdy. Purdy isn’t even the best player on his own team. Josh Allen on the 49rs would be scary as hell.

The MVP doesn't necessarily mean the best player on the team. The Most Valuable Player is just that. I disagree with Cam Newton saying a 'Game Changer' has to be the 'Best Player' on the team. Too many times, a QB will try to FORCE things to happen by trying to do it 'ALL' by himself. I have news for many people out there, including Cam - be the 'Playmaker' - that's why you are the QB. You get the ball into the hands of your 'Skilled Players' at the right time. A 'Game Manager' is what a QB is: he manages the offense. There is nothing wrong with making the plays that the 'Coaching Staff' brought together. A 'Game Manager' isn't only, "Don't Lose..." but makes the plays that ends up getting the 'Touchdown' or at least a 'Field Goal' at the end of that drive. This has little to do with 'Not Losing' the game, but sticking with that plan which was drawn up. A 'Game Changer' is a 'Game Manager' who does something 'EXTRA' at the right time; and that is when the 'Game Plan' isn't working for 'That Specific Play at That Time'. The 'Game Changer' is able to 'Make Something Happen' from a 'Broken Play'... and succeed. A 'Game Changer' can also 'Change the Game' in a negative sense when he tries to 'Force A Play' unnecessarily and ends up by turning over the ball or doing something to 'Hurt The Team'. Also, a team has 'Skilled Players' called 'Running Backs' that are paid to 'Run The Ball'. The QB should not have to 'Run The Ball', but to give it to the 'Running Back' so that he could do HIS JOB. The QB does not have to nor should be required to 'Run The Ball'. This does not mean that the QB can't run the ball, but make use of 'The Running Back' so that the 'RB' could 'Run The Ball': that's why he's the 'RB'. Also, the QB does not have to 'FORCE' the ball down the field to make a 'Spectacular Play' in order to be a 'Game Changer'. To be a good 'Game Manager', the QB has to be patient...which can be difficult to do. A play can take between 1.75 to 2.5 seconds where the QB has to hold the ball for a moment, then throw it at the right place at the right time. It may seem simple, but 'THEORY' and 'ACTUALITY' are two different things. There is a reason a football team has a 'Coaching Staff' - and an 'Offensive Coordinator' to do the 'Brain Work' BEFORE the game so that during THE GAME, the plays work. Also, the 'Playbook' has 'The Plays' that the team uses. And with the 'Play-Calling', the QB has 'The Option' to make a 'Change' BEFORE the snap if he sees something that 'THE DEFENSE" might be trying to do in order to 'Stop' what 'The Offense' might be trying to do. A 'Game Manager' has that capability as 'Quarterback'. Again, a 'Game Manager' does not have to do anything 'Spectacular' as long as the 'Game-Plan' is working. The BEST QBs were EXCELLENT GAME MANAGERS! The Quarterbacks are the 'MVP's' of the Game: they have to be. That's why I think the "NFL' should do like the 'MLB' where the "MLB' has the 'Cy Young Award' for the 'Pitcher' - because 'The Pitcher' has his hand on all the plays. The QB has his hand in all the 'Offensive Plays'. I believe the NFL should have: 'The Offensive Player' and 'The Defensive Player' Awards as 'Offensive MVP' and 'Defensive MVP' of the game ASIDE from the QB. The NFL should have a Special Award for the 'QB MVP' as well. Also, the 'MVP' doesn't have to be 'The Best Athlete' or 'The Best Player', but he must be 'The Most Valuable Player' by using his skills to help his team WIN GAMES...PERIOD! Enough said.

Also it’s a little odd to say Purdy looks better than early Brady when Brady’s offense was pretty lacking in terms of playmakers by comparison. It’s one thing to say Mahomes did because you can make a very solid argument Purdy still has more talent around him than Mahomes has ever had. Then Mahomes goes and throws over 50 TDs and 5000 yards in his second season. Purdy with better weapons threw 31 TD’s and 4280 yards. No comparison, put Mahomes there and he gets 40 and 4500 in a bad year.

On how many attempts Brock was near bottom of the league in pass attempts in fact I think I saw someone say if he had the same amount of attempts as a bunch of the other top QBs his stats average out to breaking the NFL single season passing record but i didn't look them up myself so maybe they were off on that I only know he set Niners passing Franchise record on the least attempts closest to him was Steve Young who had more attempts by like 20 or 30 I think
@Jimmeh417
@Jimmeh417 4 ай бұрын
Not likely; the Chiefs threw it constantly, and the 49ers this year were balanced. Brock was 32nd in the NFL for number of pass attempts and sat out a game, while also being top 5 in yards, TDs, etc. If the 49ers just aired it out every game, he'd probably have gotten 5000+ yards. Obviously that 50 TDs number would be tough to match no matter what else goes on.

I agree Purdy has accelerated at the right time but at the same time, the Lions almost beat them if it weren't for a basic coaching mistake. And the Lions are not known for their defense so he can't use "strong defense" as an excuse for nearly blowing that game. With the weapons he is surrounded by, you could put me in there and I'd do about the same. (that is sarcasm kind of) He also got wiped off the field by the Ravens and thus might feel relieved to be playing KC. He better be watching a lot of film because KC's defense is far better in the last 6 games than any other team's D. Let's see how flustered he gets when the 9ers O line breaks down..... He's not familar with what Steve Spags can do and this is going to be the test of a lifetime.

So in 2020 the chiefs lost to Tampa cause they had a lot of injuries and they couldn’t outplay Brady and Tampa. Purdy has a good team around him and that’s the only reason he is flourishing……why make it about the quarterbacks? Anything to cause a debate I guess. These players don’t care about that. From what I’ve seen, the Niners are on a mission and want to win a a Super Bowl for each other. They got work to do but it can be done! Chiefs underdogs????? Yea right! Every talking moron in sports is already, in so many words, saying the chiefs will win. Unless Purdy has an outstanding game….not his team, Purdy. Hey Simms, I watch a lot of college football too….im awesome, damn right I am.
