I'm a Chiefs fan, but as early as last season, I have already acknowledged Brock Purdy as a top QB in the league. Top 10, maybe even Top 5 after this SB, depending how he plays He has the numbers, he has the poise, he has the composure, and most importantly, he has the wins. Brock Purdy has a 4-1 playoff record despite just being on his 2nd year. The lone loss was due to his injury. He has yet to lose a playoff game in which he played all minutes. For context, the "most talented" QB Lamar Jackson has 2 playoff wins in 6 seasons. Other players are built for numbers, some players are built for the clutch. Brock Purdy has showed us so far that he's built for both.

Andy Reid couldn't win for years until he went to the Chiefs and got Patrick Mahomes. Jalen Hurts was only really good last season. This season, he was clearly struggling. I don't really understand why every time theres any argument about Purdy its "Yeah he wins, and yeah he plays super well, but..." Mahomes is probably the only QB that can take a talentless team to the playoffs, but we'll never know because he has had talent around him for years. Lamar and Allen struggled without talent around them. The biggest difference between Purdy and Jimmy is that Jimmy accounts for barely any part of the offense, while Purdy accounts for the majority of the offense. AND Jimmy had his defense bail him out every time, while Purdy doesnt always have that luxury. Having talent on the offense isnt an excuse to say that the QB isnt good enough

How I know Joy has not watched the 49ers play is she thinks their defense is elite. Their defense has not been the same since week 11 when they lost Hufanga. Up to that point they were ranked 5th DVOA. Since then they have dropped to 22nd - 24th. Their inability to stop the run and get to the passer has been hurting them since week 11.
@SlipperyEel1310 ай бұрын
Exactly. The run defence and inability to put pressure on the QB consistently are a major concern considering how much money they invested in their defensive line.
@Rascallucci10 ай бұрын
Joy Taylor is clueless, if she thinks the 9ers' defense is still a top D, she needs to seek medical help. They can't even stop the run anymore. She didn't watch the Packers and Lions games?! As for pass rush, that D-line is massively overrated and overpaid. And that is coming from a 9ers fan. I don't know what the 9ers is going to do with their defense in the offseason, but I can guarantee you there will be a ton of changes.
@SlipperyEel1310 ай бұрын
Number one change will be a change of defensive coordinator. Steve Wilks has the talent there to have a top defence. His schemes obviously aren't working for the team, and he is too slow to make adjustments when things aren't working (such as the Championship game). Detroit lost that game when they decided to stop running the ball. They were running all over them all game, then went away from it.
@Rascallucci10 ай бұрын
@@SlipperyEel13 They did try some run blitz after half time which kind of worked, still it was hard to stop Detroit. The other thing is on the other side of the ball, CMC basically ran into a wall, this is the penalty for not spending on the O-line for years. We cannot have a consistent explosive run game if we don't have studs to run-block, our current O-line can only do it against weak D-lines.

I love the comment that Jared Goff is better than Purdy. Goff is only better when he has a clean pocket and plenty of time. Throw some pressure at him, or move him off his spot, and his numbers nosedive. Purdy performs under pressure, or not under pressure. He performs from the pocket, or on the run. He can get out of the pocket to extend the play, or just flat out run for 1st downs. And the very best thing about Purdy is that dollar-for dollar, he is FAR AND AWAY the best value at QB in the entire league. And him running for 50 yards and 3 key first down late in the Conference Championship game is definitely gonna have an impact on how defenses will have to game plan for him.
@moor-along-side10 ай бұрын
Purdy would need to beat Mahomes straight up, without the all pros, playing out of the pocket with no all pro weapons, Shanahan choking, and coming back from being down by +3TDs minimum - to change the conversation. It’s okay for him to not be considered elite. He has time to prove that with consistency and more wins. To call him elite waters down the status. He has to prove to himself he deserves to be considered elite, and I believe we are experiencing it real time - which is AWESOME!

So Shady's definition of a "Franchise QB" is a QB that you can plug in at ANY TEAM and be successful with? So using that logic, whats the point of having a good HC or OC with a good system then? Does the GM even need to draft/trade for good players to build around their QB? Or it doesn't really matter because their Franchise QB can play with whoever and make it work successfully. I mean, Shady's talking like its a 1 man sport. I thought the definition of a Franchise QB is a QB that the organization believes in and locks him in for at least 5 yrs and builds a team around him so that they can compete for a championship title and a chance to bring home a Lombardi Trophy.
@Rarmonio892010 ай бұрын
Acho's point that referenced Kurt Warner, about a QB's poise, decision-making, and the other mental qualities, are what's overlooked in these debates about what Purdy brings to the table. I will say that there's one thing that Brock Purdy has, perhaps better than any other QB in the league, and it's his ability to throw with anticipation. He doesn't have tremendous arm talent, but because he can throw it with anticipation and often times, defenses aren't able to get there fast enough to contest the ball. It's why you see Aiyuk and Deebo catching so many in-breaking routes across the middle of the field.
@ericcjacksonStudio10 ай бұрын
I agree with Acho on this one. My team has gone through so many QBs... Brock Purdy is better than all of them. Shady can say Goff is more talented, but when the heat turned up in the 2nd half, Brock made the plays under pressure and Goff did not. So you can have the more talented argument.

@@MikeHarvey-ol7xr I'm a black man and I have to admit that you're right. When they say "talent" on this show, they're speaking only of the physical components. And that's what black QBs usually do well with. These analysts aren't considering the mental aspect of talent, which is what black QBs usually struggle with. Purdy is poised under pressure, an excellent processor, has great vision (especially for his height), and is great at orchestrating the offense and putting everybody where they need to be when they're supposed to be there. He has more mental talent than most of the QBs that these analysts are saying has more talent than him.

@@dlt2k7 Thank you for your reply. I agree entirely, but especially with the latter portion about Purdy. The NFL has shown a consistent inability to properly balance the evaluation of raw physical skill against the subtle, but vital, mental aspects of quarterbacking.
