Drake BYU and Colorado are legit Top 25 programs and have proved all the college football pundits wrong , they are also not traditional Big 12 schools yet this year they have established their dominance and well deserved. Then there is ASU who is 8-2 & 10-2 going to the Big 12 Championship against a solid Iowa State team . Traditional vs the upstart. It will be a bare knuckle fist fight ......love it ! Nobody saw this coming but it was an exciting Big 12 season .

BYU had an amazing season 10-2!! Unfortunately for BYU they lost to 10-2 ASU ( nobody in this solar system saw ASU being in the Big 12 Conference Championship coming ) and ISU also went 10-2 . The Big 12 is loaded with good football teams and I fully expect the Big 12 to represent well in bowl games .......just imagine your team makes a bowl game and has to face Baylor .......see what I am getting at ????

That is not true at all. Byu literally lost to asu straight up and isu has an overall better team than colorado. They just be fun to watch. These 2 are the 2 best teams in the big 12

@ ASU won at home by an onside kick and 2 yards at the end. That isn’t exactly a water tight case to being the better team. That said, they earned the spot over BYU. They also are trending better, but ASU at their best probably isn’t better than BYU or Colorado at their best, and the big 12 rep will need to be at their best in the playoff for a fighting chance. That’s just my opinion. I also think ISU is the worst of the 4. They are just consistently solid.

They had a horrible mishandling of ending the game but it should have never even gone to a hail mary and felt over in the first half. So yea i think they are pretty clearly the better team. But yea i think we just have differing opinions because i think byu is clearly the worst team out of the 4.

@ i am not even an asu fan i just think it was clear who the better team was. Byu did have a great comeback but they struggle consistently on offense way too much. They are horrid on 3rd downs and retzlaff turns into a completely different qb when he sees any type of pressure. I think byu would be underdogs against all 3 of the other contenders.

Houston has tha worst O in all the FBS yet BYU struggled to contain them. For the last 3 games BYU looked flaccid beyond words. Why is that? How does BYU choke down the home stretch so consistently for decades? As a BYU grad of the 80s I can tell you. Provo is like an island, a hidden valley where they think they are the center of the universe. When the team starts well they get inundated with press telling them they are invincible, the 300 at Thermopylae. They get complacent, thinking all they have to do is show up to win, and boom they lose to the Kansas’ of the world. Been that way since the 70s. They lose their fight, their passion, and no coach has been able to overcome that. To a much lesser degree they also suffer from injuries and have a shallow bench, but this year that was much less of a factor now that they are in a power conference. It’s rough being a BYU fan knowing this is coming. I didn’t even start to hope until they got to eight wins, but deep down I knew the gag was coming. And what a let down to the entire big 12. BYU has fans everywhere, they travel well. Cu was the media darling with neon deon and the big$ knew that was the $ matchup. But alas, it was all for not. Chokers got to choke. I would actually prefer that they just lost a game or two early so I could settle into ambivalence and realistic expectations

If Colorado had backed into the championship game at #25 and won, then the Big12 might not have made the playoff at all. Both Boise St. and Tulane are ranked well ahead of Colorado and are favored in their respective championship games. If both win, then Tulane would get the last auto bid. As it turned out, the Big12 champ would seem to be a lock for a playoff berth, and could still get a bye if Boise St. loses to UNLV next weekend.

As a BYU alum, I know enough to say that this team surpassed any early season expectations, but that being said, they proved that they are only a top 15 team and nowhere close to making the playoff or having any success therein. The team struggled through the final four weeks and demonstrated that while the D is top 20, the O is very inconsistent and was not able to execute at key times this year. Poor play calling in the red zone in the last few weeks and poor execution by Retzlaff at QB showed that he is a good QB, but nowhere near a great QB.

Kansas St’s face plant against Iowa St was immensely disappointing for BYU fans, but then again, BYU didn’t impress against Houston. It’s easy to imagine that BYU was a couple of wonky special teams plays from being undefeated, but the simple truth in retrospect is that BYU playing good offense has been more the exception than the rule, especially toward the finish line. ASU deserves their spot-not only by overall performance but also by trajectory.

BYU absolutely gave their chance away. Bad play calling in the red zone down the stretch doomed BYU. First and goal against Kansas at the five and you throw a fade that has been executed poorly in the past. Dumb. You hold Kansas to 17 points, seven of which were gifted on a fluke play and you lose? Then you don’t even show up for the first half of AZ St and come back to almost win. What might have been.

Agree. BYU should have been 12-0. The head bounce for Kansas was a fluke but BYU should have been ahead. The loss to ASU was a fought game but still mistakes cost BYU. Need offensive line help and solid running game to be National player. Hope ASu gets buried by Iowa State because of ASU coach is a clown.

Kansas wasn't a shock. Byu never led vs ASU. If anything, byu was fortunate ASU tripped over themselves. That is a 3 score win. And now here you are, whining. That's byu class for you. And then you play like you did vs, which is exactly how you played over the last month. You deserve the Ls, enjoy them. Iowa St and ASU are the 2 best teams in the big12.

@@elche1976 He's not complaining ... he is stating the obvious ... many claim that the lucky bounce off the BYU player's helmet was what changed the game vs Kansas. I agree with @danielclark5586 in that there were other factors and one such play should not have tipped the balance to Kansas. If BYU had taken advantage of their trips to the red zone, had not thrown an interception on 1st down and goal at the Kansas 5-yd line, they would have been ahead on Kansas and that crazy bounce would not have meant a win for Kansas. By the same token, if BYU had played a decent first half against ASU accumulating a few extra points on their trips to the red zone, they would also have been in a position to win the game outright or on that final drive, win it with a FG. Again, poor play calling and poor execution cost them both games.

This was the most disappointing season for BYU in ages. Would rather them have gone 4-8 than to see their epic failure against two teams they should have crushed. It's all about the CFP bowl games mean nothing. BYU playing in one means nothing. Hopefully they expand the playoffs to at least 24 teams in the future and get rid of that awful bowl game format. I have hated that thing for years, and am so happy to see it finally go. It should have been toast more than 100 years ago.

Happy CU is sitting at home. If the league isn’t going to protect its star players from dirty career ending type plays from jealous coaches and players, then those players need to focus on getting to the draft safely! The more I rewatch that KS hit on Shedeur and relive the Travis Hunter hit by CSU, I realize there is nothing to play for this year. They are both going top 5 in the draft. Big 12 commissioner should have made public remarks along with the NCAA.
