LEARN HOW TO MAKE THIS EASY SAUCEY TOFU BOWL RECIPE TODAY!
LAY HO MA! This is definitely a lazy day dinner recipe for sure. Join me in this episode and learn how to make a deliciously easy tofu bowl recipe right at home.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup jasmine rice
1 cup water
2 pieces garlic
small piece ginger
70g broccolini
200g extra firm tofu
1 tsp potato starch
1 tbsp plant based oyster sauce
1/2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp toasted sesame oil
1 tbsp maple syrup
drizzle of avocado oil
1/2 stick green onion
1 tsp white sesame seeds
Directions:
1. Place the rice in a small saucepan. Rinse and drain the rice two to three times to get rid of the excess starch
2. Add 1/2 cup water to the rice and heat on medium high heat. When the water starts to bubble, turn the heat to medium low, give the rice a good stir, and cover for 15min
3. Finely chop the garlic and ginger. Chop the broccolini into bite sized pieces
4. Pat dry the extra firm tofu with a paper towel, then slice into cubes
5. After 15min, turn the heat off on the rice and let it steam further for another 10min
6. Make a slurry by combing the potato starch and 1/4 cup water together. Then, add the oyster sauce, soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, and maple syrup. Give the sauce a good stir
7. Heat up a nonstick pan to medium heat. Drizzle in some avocado oil
8. Add and sauté the tofu for 3-4min. Then, set it aside
9. Place the pan back onto medium heat and add the broccolini, garlic, and ginger. Sauté for 2-3min
10. Add the tofu back in followed by the sauce. Give the pan a good stir for about 10 seconds
11. Add 1/4 cup water. Continue to cook for 3-4min
12. Plate the rice followed by the tofu. Garnish with freshly chopped green onion and white sesame seeds

@@adamswitlak1242 I was vegetarian since I was 21, and became vegan 4 years ago at 63. I never missed much meat wise. Cheese has been a tad challenging. So many of the commercial vegan cheeses are very oil heavy and since I try to avoid a lot of processed oil I eat them very minimally. I have found some good cheesy sauce recipes on KZbin which are heathy and tasty and help me with that craving. Keep at it!

I just happened to have all the ingredients available, so I made this yesterday for lunch. After lunch I was busy dealing with minor emergencies so I didn't have time to review it. The piece is very fast to make, and many vegans will have most of the ingredients always on hand, and as always, Wil's recipes do not disappoint. I have a half dozen or recipes like this which I can go to in a pinch, but this one is now one of the best for when I've gotta get it done with what I have available, and do it fast, but don't want to compromise on flavour. It's also going to be something I can choose if I have unexpected guests over and I want them to stay for dinner. It's something you can feel good about sharing with others, as well as at an unplanned dinner. This will make you a star not only with yourself, but also with your friends!

I love the way you cook and describe your recipe as you move along into it. Everything you cook just looks amazing ! That you so much for sharing with us ! Even though I watch and follow you, I don’t use oil in my vegan whole plant base cooking.

What I'm learning from your channel is once you acquire a few sauce staples, soy sauce, mushroom sauce, sesame oil, dark soy, you can basically make a million different dishes. This is super helpful for me to learn how to actually cook different asian style dishes rather than just follow recipes.

I needed a quick and delicious meal and since you often mention improvising that’s what I did based on what I had. Broccoli in place of broccolini, corn starch in place of potato starch and finally some hoisin with some chili oil in place of plant based oyster sauce. It was amazing! Thank goodness for your chili oil recipe. It makes everything better

I am going to make this, it looks so savory and satisfying. I like the touch of maple syrup to cut through the richness of the oyster sauce & to caramelize the sauce.

Hello Wil. Thank you so, so much for this recipe. I finally went around the Asian/Philipino market near my home and lucky to find the Vegetarian Oyster sauce (the one you show in your video looks chunkier though). Anyway, just like you said I just finished cooking this recipe, with confidence, I must say, and it's everything you said. You are a treasure and I'm happy I subscribed to your channel! Now to go to your link and buy your book. Thanks again Wil, and much success to you!
