@@theworldisastage3425 doesn’t look like they were cooked ahead. From what I saw or understood, the Lentils were soaked 8 hours. The rice was rinsed 3 times to rid the extra starch. They were cooked when all were added to the pot. That’s my understanding but I could be wrong.

I wish that other bloggers would learn from your unobtrusive, unhurried, unassuming, and encouraging demeanor-in everything you bring to the table in your videos, Mr Man. All that you do and say (because of your peaceful manner) makes for a relaxed meal. Thank you. I didn't have that as a child.

A lot of KZbin content creators seem to feel like they have to pull silly faces, speak very loudly, strike stupid poses, jump up and down, and otherwise create a clown show. It's really odd. I wonder if KZbin encourages this in some sort of "tips for content creators" or something? I don't know. But yeah, it's refreshing when a content creator actually looks and sounds like a normal person.

That looks and sounds absolutely fabulous, and I'm going to have to make it very soon! I truly appreciate the way you make your videos, Mr. Yeung; you don't talk constantly throughout, but just enough to help your viewers know what to do, and you speak so gently and quietly, with that lovely low key music in the background---well, for me it's like watching a beautifully choreographed dance, of sorts. Such a refreshing change from cooking videos where someone uses "flash and dazzle" techniques, along with almost nonstop talking, to keep their viewers engaged. You don't need any of that, and I appreciate it very much. Your beautiful, yet simple food presentation does the talking for you.

Thank you, Mr. Yeung, for this outstanding recipe that is now going into my regular rotation! An added benefit is that it’s vegan, which just widens its appeal to those seeking a healthier diet. I followed your instructions to the letter, with the exception of substituting jasmine for basmati rice (only because I didn’t have the latter on hand. The result was perfection! I would be interested in your advice for using brown basmati in this recipe.

I'm partially Arabian and find this dish to be very comforting. The video presentation is beyond professional! Those plastic containers you keep all of your spices in! I need those! I have a small eat in kitchen to work with. So it should be a fun challenge organizing spices, herbs, self canned goods, and fermentations. You just got me excited about this dish and I can't wait to cook it in my kitchen. Oh, btw I subscribed and I'm following 🙂

Hi! I just found your channel last night, and today made the Lentil Rice and OMG!! Absolutely the best dish I've had in a while, and so easy to make. I had to make a few substitutions, I didn't have basmati, so I used Long Grain, no fresh tomato, so I used 1/2 of a can of diced tomatoes (without juice). I am looking forward to making more of your meals - I did purchase the Cooking with Confidence and Yeung Man cooking for digital download last night, so I'm very excited to try more. Thank you!!

We have a similar recipe called khichri, which is usually eaten when a person has an upset stomach. So the local version doesn’t have a lot of chilli powder but a lot of cooling whole spices such as green cardamom, fennel seed, salt and some black pepper. The spicier version is eaten as a regular dish which is accompanied with a yoghurt side and some pickle and pappadom.

The lentil and rice dish was great, I did it as the recipe which was delicious, but when I made it again I included a couple of additions, a tad of white miso and reduced the amount of veg stock bouillon, I’m in a miso phase and I buried a few frozen blocks of spinach, whilst the pot rested after cooking which added more colour and more nutrition, both ways are winners. I am really enjoying this new calming channel discovery 🙏 thank you.

There seems to be calm, joy, focus, simplicity, clarity in everything that you are doing. The sound of knife chopping, the music and of course the camera work is all great. I love it, thank you. Please forgive me for asking this perhaps heretical question. Is there a substitute that can be used for the tomato, garlic and onion in this recipie or should I just leave them out rather than try a substitute???
