LEARN HOW TO MAKE AN EASY ONE PAN LENTIL RICE RECIPE TODAY!
LAY HO MA! Imagine a bowl of hot fluffy rice flavoured with garlic, onions, spices, and tomato - this is definitely going to be a weekly favourite. Join me in this episode and learn how to make a delicious and easy one pan lentil rice recipe. Let's begin
Ingredients:
1 cup brown lentils
1 cup basmati rice
3 pieces garlic
small piece ginger
1 red onion
1 tomato
2 tbsp olive oil
pinch of salt
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp chili powder (cayenne pepper)
1 1/2 tsp sweet paprika
1 tsp coriander
pepper to taste
1 1/2 cups veggie stock
few lemon wedges
few sprigs parsley
Directions:
1. Place the brown lentils into a large bowl. Fill with about 3 cups of water and let it soak for 8 hours or overnight. Then, strain out the lentils and set aside
2. Rinse and drain the basmati rice two to three times. Then, set aside
3. Finely chop the garlic and ginger. Dice the red onion and tomato
4. Heat up a sauté pan to medium heat. Add the olive oil and red onions. Sauté for 4-5min
5. Add the garlic and ginger. Sauté for 1-2min. Add the lentils and sauté for about 1min
6. Add the rice, salt, cumin, chili powder (or cayenne pepper), sweet paprika, coriander, and pepper
7. Add the tomato and sauté for about 1min. Add the veggie stock and give the pan a stir to deglaze
8. Turn the heat to medium high and bring to a boil. Then, cover and cook on medium low for 15min. After 15min, turn the heat off and let the rice continue to steam covered for a further 10min
9. Plate the rice and garnish with fresh lemon juice, parsley, a drizzle of olive oil, and freshly cracked pepper

@@theworldisastage3425 doesn’t look like they were cooked ahead. From what I saw or understood, the Lentils were soaked 8 hours. The rice was rinsed 3 times to rid the extra starch. They were cooked when all were added to the pot. That’s my understanding but I could be wrong.

A lot of KZbin content creators seem to feel like they have to pull silly faces, speak very loudly, strike stupid poses, jump up and down, and otherwise create a clown show. It's really odd. I wonder if KZbin encourages this in some sort of "tips for content creators" or something? I don't know. But yeah, it's refreshing when a content creator actually looks and sounds like a normal person.

@@YEUNGMANCOOKING It was lovely! I also added a cup of tomato passata as I felt there wasn’t quite enough liquid for the basmati rice to swell up fully. That looks and sounds absolutely fabulous, and I'm going to have to make it very soon! I truly appreciate the way you make your videos, Mr. Yeung; you don't talk constantly throughout, but just enough to help your viewers know what to do, and you speak so gently and quietly, with that lovely low key music in the background---well, for me it's like watching a beautifully choreographed dance, of sorts. Such a refreshing change from cooking videos where someone uses "flash and dazzle" techniques, along with almost nonstop talking, to keep their viewers engaged. You don't need any of that, and I appreciate it very much. Your beautiful, yet simple food presentation does the talking for you.

2nd time coming back to make this recipe/video. I’m a big fan of legume/rice based recipes especially with how affordable they are, and I love how comforting this combination of flavors in the dish is with the tang of lemon!! I plan to try some more of your recipes in the future.

I've cooked it for lunch today. Delicious! I topped it with some fried tofu just to add some extra protein and grilled zucchini, just because it's zucchini session now. Thank you for this perfect one-pan recipe! Tofu and zucchini was prepared in the same pan and set aside till the lentil was cooked. I would never ever destroy a one-pot dish 🙂

Thank you Chef, this was a fantastic experience. It probably wasn't even needed, but since I had some leftovers I added some chorizo just before the lentils - the extra flavour and oil added a whole extra layer of flavour and nutrition to this already excellent meal. I look forward to having this delicious (and easy) meal again and again over many years,

I'm partially Arabian and find this dish to be very comforting. The video presentation is beyond professional! Those plastic containers you keep all of your spices in! I need those! I have a small eat in kitchen to work with. So it should be a fun challenge organizing spices, herbs, self canned goods, and fermentations. Really relaxing, gentle, yet inspiring to watch. Absolutely beautiful looking food, tutored by an equally lovey soul. Gotta say, I do make this lentil dish, (or a pretty close cousin to it), in my rice cooker, as one of my "go-to" quick dinners. It is always a hit with others who I eat it with. Subbed, and seriously looking at the books to buy.

I love the voice-over on the cooking process. It's not the cheery, bubbly "I'm using all the crap on KZbin that I learned waiting tables to maximize my tips!!" thing. It's like a professional intel analyst commenting on the feed from a spy camera, if spy cameras were used for stealing other countries' best recipes.

We have a similar recipe called khichri, which is usually eaten when a person has an upset stomach. So the local version doesn’t have a lot of chilli powder but a lot of cooling whole spices such as green cardamom, fennel seed, salt and some black pepper. The spicier version is eaten as a regular dish which is accompanied with a yoghurt side and some pickle and pappadom.

The lentil and rice dish was great, I did it as the recipe which was delicious, but when I made it again I included a couple of additions, a tad of white miso and reduced the amount of veg stock bouillon, I’m in a miso phase and I buried a few frozen blocks of spinach, whilst the pot rested after cooking which added more colour and more nutrition, both ways are winners. I am really enjoying this new calming channel discovery 🙏 thank you.

Well, this showed up in my KZbin feed and it sounded like a good recipe. Rather than just skipping to the written instructions and ignoring the video like I normally do, I was immediately drawn in by the almost meditative quality of the video - the music, your soothing voice, the entire cooking process were all so relaxing yet compelling. I hadn't planned on a trip to the grocery today, but I'm going to get the couple of ingredients I'm lacking and make this delicious-sounding (and looking) dish. Thank you!
