How does a vitamin B12 deficiency affect important functions in the body? If someone eats a plant based diet that is abundant in folate, can this affect the size of their red blood cells and how does this relate to vitamin B12 testing?
The information in this video is a summary and is by no means complete, which is true with research in general. It characterizes the fascinating nature of inquiry - there is much that is currently known and much that has yet to be known. I encourage you to be a lifelong learner :)

Informative video. People should avoid folate before testing, and avoid B12 supplementation for around one month before testing, otherwise the B12 supp will still be in the blood, with the testing showing this, rather than what has reached the cells.

Nice to see you touching on the MTHFR cycle a bit here! Important and interesting stuff for sure, especially in regards to B12. I was eating about 1-2 pounds of romaine every night as well as taking a b12 supplement a few times a week and after a year still had high homocysteine levels.

+SouthernSouls That's great, can I know if you're vegetarian? or if you're taking animal products for B12?

+sarahhcoco mainly raw vegan, eat a bit of steamed sweet potatoes the odd time, been doing it 3 years. Homocysteine levels are great now, took some methylfolate only on a few occasions but mainly vegan b12 spray from iherb.com and eating lots of greens.

Dear Karin, Thank you for this wonderful video that really helps me understand this complicated relationship between B-12 and Folate. I am a nurse practitioner and have recently begun genetic testing my patients for the MTHFR polymorphism. I am amazed that most of my patients show deficiency at the C677T. I am considering Rxing Deplin for this. Should I also test for B-12 deficiency and encourage them to take B12 supplement? If so, what form? Thanks, Joe
