I lost everything at the age of 10. Put into an orphanage for 3 years, then placed with an abusive family. 56 years later about to swim 10 miles to raise money for wildlife rehab center. I went from an impossible situation as a child to anything is possible. I never gave up on trusting my thinking. Thanks

1) Meditation is particularly helpful with regards to recognising how one feels when overwhelmed with emotion. 2) Focusing on the things we control and seeing how we can go about achieving our own definition of success can lead to a more fulfilling life. Thank you for the great video and valuable insights

This style of podcast with q and a was great. I felt connected to the questions personally and got a lot of validation with their answers. I knew how you would respond to some parts as I have dealt with similar situations and watched your videos for advice. Then I also learned some new, very relevant things.

This is great!!! It would be great if you went through the daily stoic more often. I start my journal off every morning with my understanding of it and its good to hear your personal thoughts

I started reading The Daily Stoic at the start of the year. I look forward to reading that next principle every morning, and trying to apply it to that day.

To those that have problems with meditating. Journaling is as much the same as meditation. I struggled with meditation so I started journaling my thoughts and experiences and it helped and is still helping in suppressing the irrational voice inside my head. Also a way of reflecting on your experiences and faults and thus you have a hard copy on how to correct yourself when facing the same adversity day-in-day-out.

Beautiful! You are one of the best channels on KZbin!... For some stoic humor, look up Monty Python, the Black Knight clip. There is a 2 minute version, and a 4 minute version.

Perfect timing. I am using some stoicism concepts in my client-facing materials on transformation and future readiness. Specifically weaving in this regarding preparedness and readiness: “We should act as we do in seafaring ‘What can I do?’ - choose the master, the crew, the day, the opportunity. Then comes a sudden storm. What matters it to me? My part has been fully done, for I am not Eternity, but a human being. A part of the whole, as an hour is part of the day. I must come like the hour, and like the hour must pass.”- Epictetus. I have been struggling to marry the general tenets with the goals of corporate profit and this video helped me frame a new perspective. Thank you! BTW, can you get some women’s jewelry up on your site? It’d be great to see a dainty version of the medallion or the ring.

Very good! Like here on social media I don’t go back and count “likes”. When I get a response I will look. But otherwise I don’t really feel like I need to. Sometimes it’s good to just get the thought out. And if you get a good response, that’s a bonus! Thank you for your deeper explanation of the meanings! 👍

I think you're confusing depression with sadness in your answer to the 2nd question. Speaking as someone that is currently in the process of recovering from depression and Social Phobia using Stoicism (thanks by the way :) ), I think the idea of Memento Mori is really what snapped me out of my depressive way of thinking, along with Marcus Aurelius' little argument with himself about getting out of bed in the morning. Something else I found really life changing was the idea that depression is basically your ego running away with itself in a negative way - it's like narcissism but it in a negative direction rather than a positive one, because it's an obsession with how shitty you are rather than how great you are, and it's just as damaging to yourself and those around you. Once you get over yourself a bit and stop taking the negative ideas so seriously, things improve rapidly - in my experience.

That’s a really insightful way of thinking about depression! I’m currently using stoicism to get rid of my symptoms of social anxiety and I can definitely see how ego applies here as well - an obsession in thinking that other people are paying attention to you when really, you’re not that important to anyone but yourself

Question, ego lets you decide, superego makes you into some perfect thing, and id drives you to sinful pleasures so I'm going to use my ego to decide to go to the super-ego how is ego bad than. and no I didn't read your book. Watch the video "id-ego-super ego" by SlimaksClass to see what I mean. Is your definition of ego different ?

I asked a question last week regarding the death of loved ones (including pets) and how stoicism can help. I had to euthanize my pet dog yesterday. I found the whole experience traumatic. Are there any specific principles of stoicism that relate to the death of others?
