There are many variables on max antenna gain on 2.4 and 5.8 GHz. That number for point to multipoint links are 30dbm per FCC rules. This would be any RV park Wifi set-ups. You can calculate you max output from your outside CPE and set it one time and save. This will keep you out of trouble with the FCC and a smart RV park Wifi manager. I been doing this and owning a Wispa sense 2005. I just come across this video.

I have a travel trailer so can the Yagi antenna be hooked into the cable attachement on the outside of the RV then hook the Desktpop booster to the cable hookup inside the RV then plugged into the laptop or a repeater. Also I generaly camp among trees and I suspect they would interfere with signal somewhat?
@Technorv
@Technorv 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, This is likely not going to work. First, the cable for the yagi is RG58 and the cable in your RG is likely RG6. You could get an adapter, but then you run into cable quality issues and of course, the more cable you put in the more signal loss you have. I would look for another solution.

You can login into that equipment with any pc that has a network port. Just set the ip address on your pc to the same network group the CPE on then open your browser type ip to equipment and you should be able to make changes once you have logged in with user name and password.

You didn't say how or where I would mount that Yagi antenna to point to the transmission source. With a tripod? On the window? Thanks.
@Technorv
@Technorv 6 жыл бұрын
There are several ways you can do that. Some people mount the Yagi on a PVC pole and attach it to the RV using a suction cup mount so you can rotate the pole / Yagi. You would want to get it up and above the other RVs since WiFi is a line of sight signal.

You state this antenna tube has 2 full watts of power. Is this one better than the 1 watt that comes with the camp Pro 2?
@Technorv
@Technorv 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, The Camp Pro has a nice mix with the 9 Db Antenna. While the Desktop Booster has a 2 watt transmitter, the antenna is less than the Camp Pro 2. Both are good, and really is about your needs and ability to install a system. If you are ok putting an antenna outside, and up high, then the Camp Pro can be very effective. If you prefer to have a inside unit then the Desktop is great. I hope this helps. Eric

Good explanation! Makes the solutions much clearer. Is there a Maximum Range for the Yagi Antenna?
@Technorv
@Technorv 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Rix, The Manufacturer claims a mile plus, but that is in laboratory type conditions, and also depends on the transmitter being used with it. I guess the bottom line is that even in realistic conditions you can get some really good distances, but is dependent on obstructions and even weather. I hope this helps a bit. Eric

Great presentation. Just curious, do you think the booster would strengthen the signal inside my home. For instance, a corner room on the second floor.

Steve Marks If you use the desktop booster alone, it should help with the connection to the router downstairs. By using the desktop booster, you would be using a stronger antenna and transmitter to connect.

You mention being in an RV park. I don't use them as I boondock. Does this work the same way if I have some signal to boost? What do you offer for no signal as that is often my case? I don't need it for full time but rather extended camping trips; 2-3 months. Thank you

Hey Nancy, we now offer Pepwave Cellular Routers instead of wifi boosters. I'm not sure if you were referring to no cell signal or no wifi signal, but if you have a cell signal where you boondock, the Pepwave should be able to use it.

You talk about aiming these devices toward where the WiFi signal is coming from due to a directional line of site. How do I know where the signal is coming from?
@Technorv
@Technorv 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Tawana, If you use a directional antenna then you do need to aim the antenna towards the source. If you are at a RV park then you could ask the front office where the signal is coming from. In the end, if you do not know where the signal is coming from then a directional antenna would be hard to use. I hope this helps. Eric

Hey. I have a question. I want to get a wifi booster for my travel trailer It has a little interior crank that raises a TV antenna on the roof. I was wondering if I mounted a wifi booster to the TV antenna somehow, would the antenna affect the booster's productivity? Would the booster affect the tv antenna's productivity? My travel trailer doesn't have a ladder sadly.

Your amp connects to the computer wirelessly thru the repeater.I would like to use a MAC pc because my windows laptop is a losing fight with all the viruses, big headache keeping it clean.The issue is I don't want to be saturated with low power microwaves when using your repeater to connect to a Mac.Are you going to offer a direct connect amp to the Macs anytime soon?Anything out there that will work other than parrallels program to run a wave plus amp? The wave plus works only with windows,gets signals way out there if you use a panel or yagi outside....I get 1/4 mile easy.Again, have to use a windows PC......would like to find something that works by direct connection to a Mac! One thing that nobody mentions is that if the signal is not encrypted you can access it.Use VPN express if your going to do any banking...RV parks good for snoopers.

S Meg If you need multiple devices to connect, you can use any of the kits online as they all have a repeater in them. I desperately need a WiFi booster but am stuck because I am increasingly running across WiFi systems with a captive portal (a dedicated web login page). It seems few if any repeater/booster systems support captive portals as one must open a browser, click a button then (typically) enter a password only (not SSIS+password). Do you have a solution for this increasingly common situation?
@Technorv
@Technorv 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, The captive portals can be interesting. It seems it is a moving target with security systems and WiFi boosters. The Camp Pro kit that we sell at TechnoRV works in most cases with captive portal. Alfa has continued to make updates to specifically deal with this. As it stands, in most cases, our customers can get through on captive portals just fine. Every now and then we come across a picky portal and cant get through, but that is rare. I hope this helps. Eric

Fairly informative.. especially those who don't know of and or understand how to receive 3rd signals.. That said.. there are Additional things that can be done.. Indeed...Height of antenna is might.. a Yagi high gain is typically better then a lesser and even same gain omni directional antenna ( more so at height ) though an amp is good. you can get better higher quality amps... some just higher quality.. others also higher power.. Also.. one can use a preamp (especially at the antenna) this boosts reception of the signal at its cleanest source .. essentially adding gain without needing a huge antenna.. btw a preamp and a amp are NOT the same.. they can be used separately or together.. another method of increasing reception / transmition is using high quality feedline..coax cable.. cables typically sold by most WiFi boosting companies are garbage and are very high signal loss.. 2 ways of fixing that is.. shortest needed coax cable.. high quality coax.. high quality coax is expensive ( in most people's minds) but also harder to work with.. since much thicker and far less flexible.. So.. Outside mounted and as High as possible.. High Gain Yagi.. with antenna mounted pre amp... Very low loss coax feedline.. then into High quality amp of 2 watts ( legal ) But can obtain higher.. than continue as mentioned in this vid

I have antennas and repeaters for..2.4 ghz ....5 ghz .. and the 5.8 ghz to cover all WiFi.. similarly .. I have all needed for LTE 3g / 4g anyways.. I often get WiFi and or Cel reception 10 even 50 miles away.. but then I'm an extremist as a licensed ham radio operator

@Technorv
@Technorv 8 жыл бұрын
+MrSleepJunkie It does split the signal, but that terminology doesn't necessarily mean it is halved. By the nature of being a router, it allows multiple to access the signal. Direct connecting is better, but you can't have multiple devices, so many elect to use the repeater with less signal.

You want a real danger, if you live within a 1/4 mile from a high power transmission line, the cancer rates are 50 times normal.

These devices are actually updated regularly and work very well to bring in a stronger connection to WiFi.

Sounds great but you failed to mention on how RVers know where the source of WiFi is coming from. Hard to point OMNI in an undisclosed location. I think you are missing the most important information. All this equipment is useless without a WiFi finder. Also bandwidth is only so much as well. You are better off using your own mobile device. Skip all the tools and gadgets. None of this works due to every RVer having these boosters. You are still SOL. Just wait until 2 am then you own the WiFi

You would definitely need to know where the WiFi access point is if you were using the Yagi directional antenna, but the Camp Pro omnidirectional antenna scans WiFi in all directions. Yes, there would have to be public WiFi available within a 1/2 mile or so with a somewhat unobstructed view for the WiFi booster to work, but the device can strengthen your connection if there is. It does not increase bandwidth though since that is the responsibility of the campground; it simply allows you to be farther away and inside your RV and still get the same signal as if you were close to the access point. If you must have reliable internet connection at all times, we recommend using a cellular connection like a phone hotspot or jetpack, but if you want to try to conserve cell data, a WiFi booster can improve your ability to connect to campground WiFi.
