@@hollybarrigar9502 I'm not sure if Winegard has a device you can mount inside your RV since it is sort of an antennae and it's supposed to go on your roof. But if there was a way to make it more accessible, I'd love to hear about it! Thanks for watching! Mike

@@RVBlogger just saw a video showing a winegard router mounted on the ceiling in the bedroom right underneath the Winegard that’s on the roof. There is a white cap that you remove and you attach it to the plate and then attach the router to the plate.

We replaced the cardboard StarLink box with a plastic box that holds everything just like the cardboard box - From The Container Store 61 Liter Premium Stacking Tote … Clear 17-1/2” x 27-1/4” x 12-1/4”h. We are full time rv'ers now for over 3 years now. This is what works for us I've not seen mentioned. We pay $25.00 for each cell phone with unlimited everything including hotspot data. Try finding someone offering truly unlimited hotspot for $25.00/mo. I hotspot my TV and computer at the same time. My wife does the same thing for her computer and bedroom TV off of her phone. No throttling. My experience is that VERIZON has the better coverage nationwide which is great but expensive. Verizon started its own reseller company called VISIBLE. That is who we use. If you want 5g speeds then pay $30/mo. No taxes etc. Flat fee. No contracts. We are not speed demons needing 5g which is not widely available until you get around larger cities. In my 40' RV to be honest a 5g vs. 4g signal for a 4k movie will probably look the same at our ages. 😂 4g and $25.00 per month is a deal no one beats. We have Starlink for RV which we used before we found Visible for way cheaper than Starlinks $150/mo. You have the option to turn Starlink off and on for a month at a time if you need a blazing fast internet backup. I hope this helps the next person.

@@capodad2u Try Verizon's own company they started called VISIBLE. Unlimited everything including hotspot 4g data on my cell phone for $25.00 month. You want 5g then $30/mo. Since VISIBLE is owned by Verizon, they use Verizon's towers. This IMHO is the best kept secret most RV'ers etc have not heard of. Been traveling between Texas and California as a full-time RV'er and no problems for the last year. My Starlink gear is now collecting dust.

OMG thank you so much for this demo on hooking up Starlink! I was just trying to figure out an easier way to hook it up without going through the slide. I have a class C and had settled on using the upper bunk window-BUT now I realized I have a nice little hole where my electric cord fits through the bottom of the cargo area (in order to keep the door closed) and I totally can hook it up through there! I will just need to figure out the power. I am going to play around with it as it seems that I could just run an outdoor cord from the 120 outlet on the side into the cabinet...:) At least temporarily. Thanks again!!!!

@@RVBlogger the T-Mobile has been good from Wisconsin down to New Mexico! We did have issues with it while at the Balloon Fiesta during the day, and guess it was because of the large amount of people there clogging up the cell towers. At the beginning of the video you talked about upload/download speeds being important to you, but you never mentioned what you were getting on each of the three options. Can you share? Thank you Patti and Johnnie! Sorry we didn't share speed test values. Unfortunately they are different everywhere. Today we are in Orlando at a site where T-Mobile isn't a great signal. People have actually moved to a different site to get a better signal. Our Starlink is 129.7 upload and 10.9 download. I have upload several videos to KZbin with no problem. Our T-Mobile was only 10.8 U and .3 D. If all we had was T-Mobile we probably would have moved too and got a better signal. Great question. How is your internet service at home? Both Starlink and T-Mobile can be used at home or on the road. So there is the possibility of eliminating a cost at home when you are traveling. We love that we can pause Starlink and we love the affordability of TM. A lot depends on where you are traveling and how often you need internet. There is no contract with TM so you could certainly try that first and see how it works vs the $600 start up cost of Starlink. Thank you so much for your support. We truly appreciate it!@@johnniedonnelly1334

Great Video, thanks for sharing. I have both StarLink and At&T service with a Winegard. Both have served us well. I put my Winegard in a cabinet with a cigarette lighter plug. this makes it accessible and easy to reboot. it works extremely well in the cabinet and does not need to be on the roof. This also simplified wiring it. It works so well that when we park it inside a full metal storage building with the doors closed, we still have great internet service. when there is no cell service, we use the starlink and we connect the Winegard to it like it is the park wifi and all devices connect to the Winegard.

Sometimes the download is sometimes 100-300mbps download. So far never ran into a location where I didn't have a signal. T-Mobile will be canceling this use on the road because it was design for home use only and they will be turning g on the routers GPS to determine of you are moving around and then shut off your service. Thanks for the info! Awesome presentation. I contacted T-Mobile and was informed by them that you can't use T-Mobile Home in an RV, it can only be used in one location that you are approved for. Is this something new, or how do you travel with it? Thanks

This has always been the case but it worked wherever we have gone with it. Since we made this video T Mobile came out with the RV Plan for $160 a month. So if you buy T-Mobile Home now it may not work. And T-Mobile does not have a pause feature like Star Link. So I would recommend Star Link for $150 per month and you can pause it when you aren't using it and save some money too! Hope all that makes sense... Mike

Great video with the info I was looking for. We are week end RVers that need internet to be able to work remotely. The T Mobile option you dicussed would be a good fit for us as we dont typically camp in locations where there is no cell service. When I went to T Mobile web site they are attempting to push me towards the "away" plan which appears to what they have designed specifically for RVing. This plan is 3 times the cost of the home plan. I honestly dont see any difference in the plans other than the "away" gateway device is a bit smaller and the price is much larger. Is this just a gimmick to charge RVers more per month or is there some big advantage to the "Away" plan that justifies the 3x price. thanks, jd

Excellent topic!! Would you recommend Starlink to those us who are NOT in need of the Internet to run a business such as your KZbin channel?? As you say, $150/month is A LOT OF MONEY! Just as a ballpark estimate... What percent of the time when you are on the road was Starlink the ONLY method for getting online (ie., when neither T-Mobile or Verizon worked)?? And if you didn't have your online business, would Starlink be worth the price FOR YOU? Thx in advance for your answer. ❤😊
@RVBlogger
@RVBlogger Жыл бұрын
Thank you! All great questions! We love Starlink and it is very reliable but....depending on where we are staying it isn't always necessary. Places where it is hard to get a cellular signal it has been a blessing! When we were in the mid-west it was 100% necessary for us. In Colorado we couldn't even make a cellphone call. Starlink allowed us to make a cellular connection. On the east coast not as important. TBH we use T-Mobile more than Starlink but that's only our current situation. The nice thing about Starlink is that you can pause service. So if we find ourselves in a dead zone we just reactive service for that month. I think if we were not remote workers we would probably just use T-Mobile. The lack of need for internet and the cost might rule out Starlink. (But my answer could change if my location changed 🤣) Hope that was helpful. Thank you for watching our internet video and commenting!

Like a radar on a ship looking for ships they don't want to crash into the reflections off rain block clear view of objects in your path. Rain and thick clouds are big time obstructions to RF signals. Even cable companies get a few of their channels through the air like microwaves.

I disagree...Our Starlink does pretty well in rain and clouds. WAY BETTER than my DirecTV dish that was terrible in heavy cloud cover, rain and especially snow. Do you own a Starlink?

where have you been out of coverage? It's been great for us so far! East coast!

For T-Mobile, they only place where coverage was spotty was in northern Michigan and we were boondocking in a pretty desolate area. Other than that coverage has been excellent (mostly east coast too). Thank you for watching our RV internet video and commenting. We appreciate your support!

It changes everywhere we go so that wouldn't really be a good stat to share.

I'd consider t-mobile but their coverage isn't available where I camp. And to find out you need an address. So I used a place in town about 7 miles away, still no service.

From what we are hearing T-Mobile has caught on to us RVers. They have developed their own travel WiFi that is much more expensive. (We are still flying under the radar🤞) So it's probably not the best affordable option anymore, sorry. We will continue to do our research for everyone. Thank you for watching our RV internet video and commenting. We appreciate your support!

Sure does - but be aware this video is outdated...TMobile Home is no longer a good option.

With the roam mobile dish mounted on the roof of your vehicle, you have internet access while you're moving. My wife needs to work during the day while I'm driving. It costs more per month, but you can turn it off when you're not traveling.

Nice - how much does it cost per month?

I'm a bit troubled by the comments regarding T-Mobil not wanting us to use this while traveling. Has anyone actually had T-Mobil pull their plan because of doing this?

It has happened to several people I know.

I hope you get a lot of response, I'm very curious. We haven't had an issue with ours nor know anyone that has.

We used T-Mobile Home internet on the road this past winter. Worked in most places, except if we had no cell signal (mountains of northern Georgia.) It's a real shame that they're going to block mobile use, and that the 'mobile' version will be 3x the price.

At the new price of $160 per month you are better off going with Star Link. At least you can pause Star Link when you aren't using it and save some money. Thanks for watching! Mike

So your telling me that starling inst worth it since this option is out there?
@RVBlogger

At the time we made this video Starlink was the most expensive option and T-Mobile worked great. in fact we paused StarLink for about 9 months because T-Mobile worked so well. But T-Mobile changed since we made this video. Now they are cracking down on people using T-Mobile in their RV. So other options should be considered.

Tmobile just told me it violates the Home Internet Contract to move the unit from the declared home address. :-/

I'm hearing that some reps are saying that. We didn't have that experience with our sales person and we have used T-Mobile for over a year now with no problems at all. As a matter of fact we haven't "un-paused" our Starlink since last October. (But we have done mostly east coast camping) Thank you for watching our RV internet solution video and commenting. We appreciate your support!
