How is it that higher basal temperature slows down digestion? I would think it would be the other way around, low temps, sluggish metabolism, poor digestion.
@DrBethWestie5 жыл бұрын
Progesterone slows down digestion naturally. It’s meant to conserve nutrient.
@birage98855 жыл бұрын
@@DrBethWestie I certainly believe you, I often hear about women who get GERD when they take progesterone, probably relaxes the LES, as well. I always equate high basal temperature with higher metabolism, good thyroid function, etc., which are mostly correlated to good digestion. Just confused me on that one, but that is something I did not know about progesterone.
@DrBethWestie5 жыл бұрын
Yes! Most women notice a significant change in digestion during the progesterone phase, and then it speeds back up during estrogen. It's the bodies way of preparing for gestation (where the term pro - gesterone = pro gestation comes from). But also remember that what happens naturally in the body when progesterone is higher is different than when women take progesterone...

Dr. Beth Westie thanks for the reply. I think losing excess weight must help with balancing hormones. I understand fasting can cause stress if body isn’t used to it. I will keep researching as there are many contradictory opinions 😊 I appreciate the video.
@DrBethWestie5 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome. Keep in mind, it’s not necessarily if the body is used to it. It’s the physiological response of the female body when it’s lacking nutrient. Not something you can avoid if you’re fasting without nutrient.
@lisamitchell31165 жыл бұрын
There are theories that the nutrients are in the body but are bound and that during a water fast the nutrients become available? Autophagy is an interesting topic as well. Sometimes I feel that being overweight means that I have more than enough nutrients but the body isn’t able to access. Anyway, I appreciate your time and I will experiment and see what happens 😊
