My husband and I had a really big reason to celebrate the other day, we are totally out of debt, including our house. So we decided to go get a margarita and some chips at a popular Mexican restaurant. We haven't been out to eat for about 4 and 1/2 years, saving our money to pay off our house. Well, our 2 drinks, a breakfast burrito and table made guacamole came to $80 including the tip. We were shocked and even more set on NOT eating out!

Wow $80? Lived in California and didn’t eat out much either, in a span of 8 years we went out maybe 5 times- not even once a year. Just went out to eat twice in Finland, at a Thai restaurant rated as #1 Thai in the whole country! It was 90 euro for 4 adults and a kid, 5 drinks including imported beer. There’s no tipping here😊 another Finnish restaurant that 70 euro four adults and a child, with salads, coffee, and fresh baked breads with berries and steak fish with wild mushrooms cream sauce. I have to say America is a rip off and the quality of foods best to cook at home. You’re much better off health wise and taste wise.

Hope you have a very happy birthday Tawra!!! Instead of chopping veges, like onions, per meal, I now keep frozen ones in the freezer. They save time & money. Benefit of not eating out for us: saves money & our health. Doctors say we're healthier because I cook most of our food. I keep a few convenience foods on hand like frozen fries. I started 'frying' them in the air fryer a few years ago & they're good.

I bulk cook twice a week to save time and money (including electricity & water ). It takes me about 1-1.5 hours in the morning & prepares several (not all) meals/recipes for the week. This helps my family & I to maintain a healthy diet by always having something ready in the fridge. It also saves my energy since I have fibromyalgia & may feel too tired or uncomfortable to cook a meal every night. Examples: Precut fruit & vegetables Chop/ crumble cheeses Start meat or beans in crockpot Cut raw meat & freeze portions Cook chicken breast/ ground beef/ chops & store in fridge or freeze for future meals Roast green beans Sauté mushrooms Cook leafy greens Boil eggs Make chicken/tuna/egg salad Unless I have no other way to use leftovers, I never make casseroles- they are too time consuming, very fattening, and scrubbing the burned bits from the baking dish afterwards hurts my joints. If I have leftovers, we just have a “buffet style” dinner.

The instant pot saved me. I can make a meal in 30 minutes with that thing........even if I am exausted. You throw a few ingredients in, and it does the work for you. A meal at home costs anywhere from $3 to $10 in most cases. Eating out is $75 or more. Needless to say we rarely eat out anymore.

Pre-ickies it was cheap to eat out, with the restaurant specials, even including tip, but not anymore. Even fast food is too expensive. It's cheaper to buy a bag of potatoes dice them up and shake them up in a bag with oil & bread crumbs, then make your own chicken nuggets, and bake. Watch Tawra's cooking channel if you can. It's more money to keep in your pocket

Hi there, enjoy your information on saving. I am big on making my own food, I think it taste better than going out. I have a garden and so much zucchini I give a lot away. But I learned last year to add to my homemade spaghetti sauce, it will make it pale but I just add tomato paste too it. and just saw a recipe for making zucchini into pickle pineapple with pineapple juice, I might try. I fish and can fish and there is a mulberry tree branch from neighbor that I grabbed to make jam. Someone I know has wild asparagus and raspberry, for jam. so, I get that and can it. There are ways to get food and save.

My go to for a quick meal is to buy a rotisserie chicken from the deli, and sometimes they are marked down. You can fancy it up if you want and add BBQ sauce. Throw some potatoes in the oven for baked potatoes, open a can of peas and a can of biscuits and you have an effortless healthy dinner

People are trying to micromanage, rather than looking at the big picture. Busy moms complain that they can't do dinner and get their kids to sports in the evenings, without trying to figure out how to make it work. If I put chicken thighs in the crockpot with any sauce from pesto to BBQ sauce, hoisin mixed with jam, or even brown gravy, make rice (30 minutes total) and nuke a bag of frozen green beans, or cauliflower, or broccoli, I have a great meal, and leftovers for a 2nd go round. Stress that eating out is not healthy - too much fat, too much salt (don't beat me up), too much food and not enough good stuff. Shred zucchini, get as much water out of it as possible. Throw in some flour (gluten free would be good), an egg, salt, onion and garlic powder, and some Old Bay Seasoning. Form into patties and shallow fry. They are so good...Faux crab cakes. I am seeing some items missing on the shelves too - all canned fruit - the canned fruit section in Walmart is shrinking. Tawara - think about this - you are NOT going to meet Jesus one scintilla of a second sooner than He planned you to. Tawara - try an alternative milk with chocolate syrup over Coco Krispies - YUM! I have Not Just Beans, and I have an autographed copy to boot. You've come a long way baby! I have only one problem with the Baptist Church down the street from me - in order to attract more young people, they painted the sanctuary black, and even have black curtains on the stage. The lighting is set up as if the sanctuary is a concert stage. I can't go in there, I just can't. I was taught that if the issue under fire/discussion isn't a "heaven or hell" issue, agree to disagree. I am not disagreeing with Mike, let's get that straight first of all. Once we are saved, we have a desire to serve God, and we do so by doing what He wants us to do -- by works for Him.
