@@135791max only true if you run right on top of them. Lurkers are far less punishing in terms of "oh, there's some spikes coming out of the ground, let's walk away and not deal with that" due to the long delay before the damage hits and low damage/splash at max range. With tanks, it's more like "oh, I lost a bunch of units, i guess there's tanks". rewatch the area at kzbin.info/www/bejne/fH3YkKKdqrKob6s . This is a serious lapse in judgement here and the blinding cloud was inconsequential; maybe if there was a sieged tank or two it would've helped? The blinding cloud covered maybe 5 marauders that quickly died soon after the blinding cloud was cast. I don't think they would've helped remove the lurker threat. The terran just needed to put in the effort to do the correct micro: pull scv's down and right to safety, lift the base, scan, snipe, and repeat. Even without the blinding cloud, this move was just terrible.

I actually quite like the banshee follow up to the first medivac and hellion pressure. Sure, they are "late" compared to a typical 2 banshee harass, but the early marine hellion multiprong is highly likely to make the opponent forget/forgo there spore crawlers, which means depsite the banshees hitting late, they still have the capability to get a lot of damage done. Of course, the follow up is stupid, because without medivacs any marine tank push is going to be easy to deal with, even with banshee support, so he should start going for +1 or a third base alongside his stim, to capitalise on the damage dealt rather than trying to go for a game ending push which doesn't really care about the damage done.
@caloreen19922 жыл бұрын
If you do damage to a zerg, and you then sit back and macro, the damage doesn't matter anymore. If you give the zerg time to just rebuild all the workers they lost with no pressure then you lose the advantage you created. If buddy never went for banshee's and actually hit 2 minutes earlier like Harstem said, the guy never would have even had the chance to get lurkers and would have had less units. Also banking on your opponent being bad and forgetting spores doesn't make a good build order. A good build order works because the build order is good, not because the opponent is bad.
@Santisima_Trinidad2 жыл бұрын
@@caloreen1992 i can see where your coming from, and i don't think the 2 banshee follow up is better than a standard 2 base all in, but i still think you're being a bit disingenuous in your comment. Your see, im not saying he should go for a third base and turtle for the next 5 minutes. I'm saying that he should get a third base and/or +1 and go for continued harassment + creep denial, because that way he's in a fairly standard macro game after dealing a massive amount of early damage, which puts him very firmly ahead. Assuming i meant turtleing is just bizarre, as its not like terrans don't make third bases versus zerg, or do so exclusively off of minimal early harassment. And like i already mentioned, no point in the banshee harass if you're immediately hitting with a 2 base push afterwards, the economic damage has little chance to take affect. I am of course assuming this person has the ability to deal with a macro game against zerg even with a massive amount of early damage, which he might not given how badly he dealt with the lurkers. Oh, and all build orders work because you're opponent is bad, esspecially ones which are forcing mistakes, like strong early harass into any sort of cloaked unit push (they might just forget to build detection, or not scout a proxy, or in this case forgo spore crawlers because they need the money and drones to either repel the follow up attack or deal counter damage and even the game up). If a build order worked exclusively because it was good, regardless of the skill of your opponent, it would be overpowered, and nobody would ever do anything else because the opponent by definition cannot best it.

The main problem I have with this series is that Harstem will nitpick a difference of seconds in terms of timing while the opponent is supply blocked and floating 1300 minerals. It falls into the territory of 'just play like Maru' or 'have you tried being a better player?'
@135791max Жыл бұрын
That is a good point, I feel like he sometimes emphasizes tiny details like seconds in build order and doesn't emphasize enough major things like the fact that Terran at one point had OVER DOUBLE the army supply, and then did nothing with it and waited for the zerg to max out as well before running his army into a lurker ball.
@NeiasaurusCreations Жыл бұрын
@@135791max I think it comes down to high level players thinking differently. In Rift a mmo I played, I realized the way I looked at the entire game was drastically different. For instance when evaluating a few friend's macro I'd point out skills or things that are near useless or shouldn't be macroed because of the waste of a single second on the GCD. Why? Because in top level pvp in rift, even a single GCD could make the difference of winning or losing, or in my case letting someone die since I mained a healer. I think its something similar where every single second counts and every small mistake build into each other skewering your chances to beat another high level player. So your goal is to play as well as possible for as much of it as possible. And in RTS speed is often a critical factor in winning or losing.
